doesn't this give you an infection

>>17007765Separating facts from BS requires standards and long concerted effort. Conversely, making retarded claims costs nothing, and often enriches you. The better question is: if someone is stupid enough to believe in acupuncture, why not take their money and use it to better ends?
>>17007865they are documented. autoimmune disorders are undocumented microbes.
>irrefutably proven scientifically to be a complete scam that is as good as a placeboIt's how I know it works
>>17007765It's a bit more nuanced than that. There is proof it can help with pain relief, possibly because it triggers a release of endorphins and it's often performed in a quiet, relaxing environment that has a positive psychological element. But yeah, all the other beneficial claims like curing disease and ailments are pure hokum.
Pretty sure Western acupuncture is a scam, but if you receive it from a Chinese acupuncturist in TCM on Mainland china with chinese techniques I believe they have discovered over hundreds of years, a way of pricking the skin in specific places that stimulates change in neural signaling. Some people get this for cancer pain and its apparently helpful, which is amazing for a treatment with no side effects when properly administered
>>17007938>>17007984you should both be mildly pepper sprayed, as this will trigger a release of endorphins and stimulate changes in your neural signaling
>>17007984> I believe they have discovered over hundreds of years, a way of pricking the skin in specific places that stimulates change in neural signaling.Wishful thinking. There is zero proof of that. Though as the other anon has said, there is evidence it can help somewhat with pain relief. However the mechanism(s) involved aren't definitively known.

>>17007765well they aren't in a rush to ban this in China, and have had acupuncture for thousands of years. Maybe its actually harmless or even helpful in some cases?
Here's a real study on the biomechanics of accupuncture. It relies on the needles stimulating the afferent c-fibers, these carry the sense of light touch, but when they are activated it blocks or attenuates the transmission of pain signals from lower in the body. The insertion of the needles changes the microenvironment around these nerve fibers, resulting in effects that last longer than the session. And also applying local anesthetic blocked the pain relieving effects of acupuncture which is very fascinating. The paper seems biased towards the Chinese by how it really takes a run with the idea that the nerves are more dense under the accupuncture points (this is only true for SOME of them) but it explains very well how this works.https://www.frontiersin.org/journals/neuroscience/articles/10.3389/fnins.2023.1239839/full
