Why aren't we allowed to talk about global warming policies on the SCIENCE board?

Is it because jannies are reddit tier climate change shills?

Discuss the authenticity of climate change and the consequences of climate change policies in this thread.

>inb4 banned for talking about science by basedience TM jannies

you are the carbon they want to reduce

Environmentalists are anti-human.

Shrill hyperbolic headline. Nobody is going into houses and literally tearing air conditioning from the walls.
>>
>>17008392
The irony is pretty funny desu.
Anyway there's no solving climate change. Absolutely no one wants to give up their first world luxuries and it's only gonna get worse as more people in the developing world play catch up. Obviously it can't go on like this forever into infinity, but I don't foresee us doing whatever we can to mitigate the issue so we have as soft a landing as possible. It's gonna get ugly. Unless of course someone waves their magic wand and produces a solution that allows humanity to keep doing whatever we want and not giving anything up while reaping no consequences for it.

Clearly you don't understand the significance of climate change. The water is going to rise. And what are you going to do then? Drink the water? You can't drink the water.

Dig really big holes in every continental mainland and flood it with the excess sea
Every continent should have an extra Mediterranean inner sea
You get extra fish too

Problem solved? I don't understand the sea level fear mongering, really.

Which heat measurement does /sci/ feel is best for civilian use? I'm partial to the Summer Simmer Index but Canadians swear that Humidex is best.

Wouldn't it be better to just make it so air conditioners have a higher lowest temperature setting? On my AC, if I set it to say 16 degrees C then when the temp in the room get to 16 the AC turns off, if it goes back up then it turns back on. They could just make some law that ACs have to have a lowest setting of 26 degrees instead of something, that way peoples ACs wouldn't run as much.
>>
>>17008752
How are you going to enforce that? Government thermometer in every part of every house?
>>
>>17008754
well obviously chud
>>
>>17008392
You are allowed to talk about it, but nobody really does because the science of it is completely settled. Talking about it anymore just stirs up schizos on here.

Are you willing to give up your car and computer, and everything else that gives off emissions and live off of 2 hours of battery charged by your solar panel each day? No? Then stop talking about it. Also that's how the non poor people will have to live. Everybody else will go back to being 3rd world, but more like the early 2000s 3rd world without internet or electricity.
>>
>>17008757
They all talk about it but nobody discusses the grim reality of what it actually means, like you just outlined.
On one hand I welcome it since I live a simple and fairly austere life by choice. Nothing would make me happier to see the many retarded fucks suddenly face a future where they can't just hop in their SUV and drive a ten minute walk to buy a snack of heavily processed slop. I would love to see these fucks face the consequences of endless trivial consumer waste and the irresponsible squandering of resources over the past 100 years.
But realistically I think it will be a lot worse than just that. I would prefer to skip the fucking chaos and blood bath that's going to happen as infrastructure fails, unemployment tanks, and the entire food supply system fail as the whole rotten economic ponzi scheme collapses. Because it doesn't matter how isolated and self sufficient you are, the lawless hungry angry mobs will eventually find you. Even if the conditions culls 99 out of 100 of them they will always outnumber you.
>>
>>17008754
just make all new air conditioners have to have it, like force the manufacturers to make them like that. The old ones wouldn't have it but people buy ACs all the time
>>
>>17008773
I'd just fuck with the temperature sensor kek.
>>
>>17008773
They tried that with shower water flow. People opened the shower head and took out the restrictor plate.
>>
>>17008772
That's a little misanthropic don't you think? Besides, realistically there was never anything you or an individual person could do about this. I wouldn't really call climate change avoidable.

Just remember oil/coal consumption and carbon emissions are driven by technological development, so your dishwasher, car, etc. are all supposed to get better, but what happens when humanity runs out of technology to improve? The equation is simple: if "profit produced by improving X technology" > "human capital input required to develop X technology", then people get laid off and those jobs no longer exist. From this perspective it seems that climate change will not be what wipes society out, and it will end when this string of dominoes we set up at the beginning of the industrial revolution plays out in their entirety.

Let me ask you something: Besides AI, can you think of a major technological advancement within the past decade? Something like the first Iphone, or everything behind the computing revolution, or cars. Something which might necessitate opening more coal power plants. AI is the final frontier and I think everybody knows it, but what do you think will happen when it gets exposed for the sham that it is?

Humans aren't the only species on earth

The jannies literally nuked the last thread discussing it.
>the science of it is completely settled.
Oh, because the cult leader said so we can't talk about it anymore, OK where's the Koolaid?
>>
>>17008889
What previous thread? Also you're clearly looking to argue in bad faith if you're comparing scientists to cult leaders, and facts mean nothing to anyone arguing in bad faith.

No.

Indeed. Humans were meant to enjoy the earth. When we run out of resources, tbe asteroids will be for the taking, any who oppose asteroid mining oh we will have our fun with them.

>>17008849
Your misanthropy is a result of your lack of education. You skim news articles titles and form your worldview on that without giving it a single thought.

Reminder that only about half a dozen states in US set their highest temperature records this century. The rest were set long ago.
Bonus factoid: New Mexico's hottest temperature ever was recorded by an automated weather monitoring station at a nuclear waste dump.

It's frustrating that this is where the focus is on reducing carbon emissions. The truth is, reducing individual household emissions won't even make a dent. Megacorporations are the ones that should be getting targeted for this, but they controlled the conversation to shift the responsibility to ordinary citizens when they're the ones to blame. The most important thing any individual can start doing is to stop buying vapid shit you don't need.
>>
>>17008392
>Why aren't we allowed to talk about global warming policies on the SCIENCE board?
Because policies are politics, not science.

I thought it was poisoning the water supplies of population centres in Africa, India, and China?

They've imported enough 3rd worlder consumerist slaves who do exactly what they government tells them. And if they haven't they'll just import more to take up the slack for what you refuse to buy, while also ensuring that your grandchildren are brown.

Via your government social credit score and doctor fauci anal probe. If you use too much carbon it will anally shock you like pavlov's dog but worse.

We are discussing whether the "science" behind the policy is correct or not, you bad faith scientism shill.
