10 years ago this board was full of IQ threads. My IQ was 144. Well I went and got a PhD in math in those 10 years. And now my IQ is 133.

Ten years is plenty of time for you to have figured out "why he did it" and if 0.999... really equals one. So, OP, give us the answers.

The equation .999... = 1 as is understood in the mainstream sense is actually to be interpreted as ".999... gets arbitrarily close to 1 as you add more 9's", not that it actually equals 1. I have a feeling you could learn non-standard analysis (something I don't know, which makes infinitesimal rigorous) and it might be capable of distinguishing between .999... and 1, although I'm not sure.
