why does the universe have 3 dimensions?
>inb4 it has 4 dimensions
why does the universe have 4 dimensions?
>inb4 it has 11 dimensions
why does the universe have 11 dimensions?

Imagine being God and having to take care of 10^500 possible interactions.

The Universe has three spatial and one temporal dimension because it's the only configuration where the mechanism for gravitation allows for stable dynamics to exist. Maybe you could have a 2+1 or a 4+1 or a 6+5 universe, but none of these would survive long enough for any other meaningful physics to exist.
>>
Why does 1+1 equal 2? There’s no actual answer; it just does

> The Universe has three spatial and one temporal dimension because it's the only configuration where the mechanism for gravitation allows for stable dynamics to exist
Is there actual evidence for this or is this baseless conjecture

why does the universe care about preserving stable gravitational dynamics?

I think he means orbits of planets around stars don't work in 2D or other dimensions, I think I heard about that before

Looks like it was a good fuck

The fact that it could have however many dimensions just shows there doesn't need to be a reason for however many we have. It's like rolling a pair of dice and asking why you rolled a 9.

3 dimensions is where all the interesting stuff happens, mathematically speaking. Like for instance the Poincare conjecture in dimensions 4+ is significantly easier to prove than in 3.

that's only true in the environnement we know because when we move one item close to another it looks like there is what we call "2" separate items, but if the concept of moving would not exist or if moving 2 items next to another made 10 appear because of how chemistry and physics were made, then our axiom of 1+1=2 and maths as we know it would be wrong from our point of view, we would have been accustomed to other kinds of logic
