Okay so what the fuck do I do to prevent balding? My hair is getting thinner, I'm still not close to being bald but I know it's coming. I've read posts online about bullshit oil that helps even if they aren't any fail proof miracle, stuff balding women do as example of why men just aren't trying enough and you know what I wanna try, what the fuck should I do, what meds or oils or shit am I supposed to try? Even if it fails it's better than not doing anything
I apologize if this isn't the correct board, I had no idea which one use and it's literally the first time I enter /sci/ Feel free to call me a retard and tell me the right board in that case

Perhaps some sort of prosthetic hair would be useful?

That's the neat part... you don't.

Everyone loses their hair eventually, how much and how quickly is purely a matter of genetics and stress. You can fight it kicking and screaming like a bitch, you can slap a rug on your head or slather your head every day with ointments and creams that grow it back in awkward patches, you can take pills that slow it down but give you erectile dysfunction, you can have someone take a microneedle across your scalp to promote temporary growth, you can have someone rip the follicles out of one part of your head and graft them to another.

None of these things will ever completely stop it, none of these things will ever look as good as the natural hair you had when you were in your teens and twenties, everyone will know you're doing it, and everyone will rightfully assume you're an insecure faggot. People can spot guys using wigs, creams, drugs, microneedling, and transplants the same way they sniff out guys wearing lifts or dudes who buy sports cars to make up for a tiny penis. You're not fooling anyone.

You can shave it or you can live with it. Them's the breaks.

Find out exactly what type of hair loss you have and then research specific treatments for it. Keep in mind some of those treatments can make you lose more hair for a couple weeks and then regrow it thicker but that varies by person
>>
>>17020878
Nah, I'm not a loser, I will fight for my hair.
>BUT IT WON'T LOOK THE SAME
Nobody looks the same as they grow old. There's a balance between accepting aging and just letting yourself go and I have no reason not to pursue it. If I lose the battle so be it, but I won't give up, why would I?

>>17020879
How do I even find out that? You mean from the top of my head or the front or something more specific?
>>
>>17020892
I mean like the cause of the hair loss. Like if it’s just regular aging hair loss or stress or vitamin deficiency or something. It’s probably just with age though so I would start with that and see what works
>>
>>17020849
scientifically speaking if you die now then you had hair your whole life and never went bald
>>
>>17020892
Have you ever shaved your head? Maybe in the summer when you were young to keep cool or not to fuss with it? I ask because bald can be a good look for some men with well shaped skulls. No, it won't be as good as having a full head of hair but if you have a good skull, bald is better than thinning. But it's difficult to know if your skull is weird or looks good without shaving at least once. Feeling around your head won't actually give you the answer.
>>
>>17020892
Accepting your hair loss isn't letting yourself go - but shit like needling and transplants is like the hair equivalent of getting lipo or silicone injections instead of diet and exercise.

About the only natural thing you can do to slow hair loss is remove unnecessary stress from your life.

Nigga minoxidil + finasteride immediately but why the fuck you post this here
>>
Balding is solves in 2026, minoxidil plus fin or dutasteride; unfortunately by the time most people realize they're balding they've already lost half of their hair so it's a bit of an uphill climb

Minoxidil and Dutasteride topical. Apply at temples of recession, the crown and the middle of the M part of your hairline.
Finasteride is too systematic and will affect your sexual prowess, making your dick small. Not recommended at all. Dut is better as it's isolated.
Oral route for minoxidil and dut is too systematic as well, could cause all hair to shed, better to keep it isolated. Shedding stage lasts from 2-8 weeks, if by 6 months you haven't seen any hair growth, like little hairs growing around those applied areas, you are kinda cooked ngl. You need to quit the chemical route and go the hair transplant route. Chemical will works wonders. Though your chances are diminished if you are blonde, as blondes tend to have really wispy thin hair that doesn't last much.

that I know of:
>turkey, hair implants

so you know how transwomen regrow their hair from a receding hairline? take estradiol. you may grow tits as a side effect, but you'll have your hair. you have to ask yourself what's most important to you.

it's a response to dht, so if you block it you become feminized and this is a less extreme version of estradiol for transwomen.

I got minoxidil, 5% as it's supposedly radically better than 2%, gonna apply it later. For how long am I supposed to do it? I presume I don't have to stop just when I see improvement, it will just get worse right away then.
>dutasteride
Guess I will ask my doc, because I can't seem to get it without receipt.
>if you are blonde
My ESL ass doesn't know the name for my hair color. It's light brown/dark blonde, you know when it looks brown but cheek individual hair strands and it's actually surprisingly blonde (just not norwegian or german-stereotype blonde), I guess I shouldn't really be concerned on that regard? Also I suppose I should avoid harsh sunlight directly over my head? Not like I wasn't doing it before as I hate the heat

For male pattern baldness, the general idea is to block DHT, a byproduct of T. There was one study that noted that individuals born with a genetic defect that disrupts the T -> DHT conversion suffer no hair loss. That's the science at this stage.
So some form of DHT blocking is the typical advice. Finasteride and Dutasteride work at different strengths for this. They come in oral and topical forms too, which allows for flexibility around side effects (which are rare).
The other proven treatment is Minoxidil which is a potassium channel opener - essentially improving nutrient flow to hair follicles. It also comes in topical (Rogaine) and oral forms, the latter being more risky for the heart (again, it widens channels and it won't discriminate if taken orally). Oral Minoxidil is typically prescribed in low doses for hair loss for that reason. There's currently an extended-release form called VDPHL01 being investigated in phase 3 trials and it looks very effective in terms of growth and low side effect profile.
There aren't many established treatment beyond those two approaches. Taking both increases the likelihood of stopping hair loss and regrowing or thickening.
There are other things you can try if those two don't work, but they are more supplementary: antifungal shampoos, vitamins, antiandrogens (blocks both DHT and T), microneedling, tretinoin, peptides, better lifestyle, etc. These are more dependent on the individual, which is why you ought to figure out the cause of your own hair thinning by testing different things. The issue is usually just DHT based, which is why Fin alone works pretty well for a lot of people.

why hasn't science figured out why that process even begins though? why does the body decide to convert T to HDT and how does DHT even cause balding?
>>
>>17020849
Just shave it all off now. I did this years ago. Aside from sunburn hazard, no regrets. Chicks dig it. I look younger, also.

Unless you have a funny-shaped head?
>>
>>17022342
Some guys rock a shiny bald head, genuinely, but it's rare and if you got hair you can always shave if you want but if you are a baldie you are stuck at that, it's just objectively worse

Balding makes you look old. Being just bald, less so.

>>17021379
Minoxidil alone does not really stop hair loss. It changes the growth cycle of your hair, making it thicker, and can in some cases regrow lost hair. Whenever you stop minoxidil, you will lose whatever hair growth you had due to minoxidil. The underlying male pattern hair loss will likely have continued during that time, so usually when you stop you will end up more balding than before you started.

Finasteride/dutasteride can stop or mitigate androgenic hair loss, stopping the underlying issue from getting worse. But they don't necessarily regrow or thicken your hair by themselves. When you stop taking them, you may then continue losing hair.

This is why the standard approach is a combination of finasteride and minoxidil. There is very little outside of these two with actual proven effectiveness, though there is a vast amount of snake oil out there.

Both are long-term treatments and it will take 6 months to a year to see results. Both can have side effects, though most people do not get serious side effects. You need to basically keep doing it uninterrupted for the rest of your life if you want the results to appear and persist. I apply minoxidil at the same time as I brush my teeth mornings and evenings and it takes about 10 seconds. The way I see it, if I want to have teeth I need to brush my teeth, if I want to have hair I need to apply this shit.

Be aware that minoxidil is also very lethal to pets, so if you use topical minoxidil do not get too handsy with animals. One reason why some go for oral minoxidil.

For finasteride, may vary regionally, but there are 1 mg tablets specifically for hair loss which are stupid expensive. I got a doctor to prescribe me 5 mg tablets (normally used at this dose for prostate issues) which I cut into quarters, way cheaper. This way, a year's worth of finasteride cost me about $20.

>>17020878 is confidently wrong, >>17022311 is a great summary.

I get 90 tablets from amazon for $15.
>>
>>17026448
Good for you. Here, the 1 mg finasteride tablets would cost me 71€ for 28 tablets (which lasts a month). And the 5 mg tablets are 30€ for 100 (which lasts a year when cut to quarters).

I'm taking minoxidil only. Isn't dutasteride better than finasteride? At least that's what I've read.
>>
>>17026645
Dutasteride is better at reducing DHT and gives stronger results for hair loss. It may or may not have give a bigger chance of side effects, I have heard both said.
>>
>>17020849
Check the balding general in >>>/fa/. Go do a checkup with a doctor and ask for finasteride if they don't find anything. I've been on fin for 2.5 years. I didn't gain any hair but I didn't lose any either so I guess it worked. No side effects.

>balding general in >>>/fa/
Fucking hilarious but their info seems to be exactly what OP was looking for
>>
You need to start finasteride and minoxidil as soon as you notice increased shedding. Fin takes 1 year to work. Supplements like Nutrafol help too.
>Fin breaks your dick
It can, but foids are harshest towards balding men, they don’t need to know you’re taking viagra.
