We outlawed beating up women for sex so now we entice them with shiny rocks and food.

It got really inconvenient to constantly haggle how many shiny rocks and food is worth whatever task you're doing so we invented slips of paper with agreed upon value to exchange for shiny rocks and food or tasks to be done.
It turns out people will give you a pretty decent amount of paper slips if you scribble down some doodles all day and that's how math was born.

Learn the scribbles. Get the paper. Trade for shiny rocks and food. Get sex.
It's not a perfect system and it doesn't even really work most of the time. But it's... yeah...
