So who was right? What is "real" and "not real" science? Or right and wrong science? Have we strived too far from normal words?

All fields are afflicted with junk science.. Psychometrics, String Theory, the Austrian School, Marxism, etc

It's usually driven by politics or pursuit of personal wealth and success

Yes. Spacetime doesnt exist for example.
Space is just the extend in which objects lie. To give that empty extend numbers and say it "bends" is objectively bullshit. Its just the extent, it has no number, and nothing cannot bend.
Simultanity is in the normal meaning an equivalence relation. If you make a new definition which takes that away you are not talking about simultanity anymore. If you then talk about "time travel" its only related to this new meaningless "simultanity".

>What is "real" and "not real" science? Or right and wrong science?
Reproducibility is the only standard. If your theory/model make consistent and accurate predictions, then it's "real/right". If it doesn't, then it's "fake/gay". The "how" doesn't actually matter at the end of the day.
The current meta of empirical math that became the predominant way to do science in the last centuries isn't due to any ontological merit. It simply beat the other /x/ competitors such as channeling and divination and whatnot in consistent predictions.

If hypothetically tomorrow /x/ schizos start to channel workable scifi techs from their god/spirit/extra-dimension or where the fuck instead of the usual schizo babbles, then "fake/gay" just became "real/right". If.

You want God's wisdom without God's glory. You think you can know better and do it without God, so that is what you get.

>religious nutjob
If you know God better then you would be producing better models predicting his creations.
Instead it's the rest of us and our "heathens" ways who made the very computer you typed your message on.
If there is a God, tell me, which one of us know better about his creations again?
>>
Science is the pragmatist arm of natural philosophy. Any time the truth value of a claim regarding the physical world can be established in a way that actually matters* then "science" is being done. Strict adherence to any particular methodology isn't really part of the equation but can be a reliable indicator of when it is, or isn't, being done.

*"a way that actually matters" here means "whether or not this claim is true has a measurable impact on the way observable reality operates."

Any german anons here? I don't read german fluently. I'm currently reading spheres I-III in translation and enjoying it. In the original, does his language transcend modern politics? Or is it all an "immune-systemically" "climate-warming" flash in the pan?

>What is "real" and "not real" science?
>>
>>17028027
The real question here is: why do philosophyfags seem so desperate to receive validation from sciencefags? You have no other reason to be visiting this board.
>>
>>17028987
Philosophy should be never on /sci/ mostly on /his/ vanishingly on /lit/
>>
>>17028997
Eh. Philosophy of science belongs on /sci/ imo. The meta-discussion of "what is it we're even talking about" is a fair discussion to have.
>>
>>17029000
You could say the same thing about /ck/: "what are we even cooking (eating) ((voluntarily enjoying life)) (((involuntarily enjoying life))) ((((discussing it all)))) for?"—; /ck/ and /sci/ both have their own boards per se; /his/ and /lit/ should be more open.
>>
>>17029006
Pedantic arguments about what constitutes "cooking" do occasionally happen on /ck/ though. Granted, I'm probably not the best representative as a lot of the time I'm on that board I just derail with shitposts about American exceptionalism for fun.

For or against?
>>
>>17029000
Giving the posting habits displayed on this board it's obvious you just want an excuse to discuss philosophy as part of some dick measuring contest against science. There's nothing interesting to a scientist about discussing the act of conducting science itself, that's completely separate from science. It's philosophy. It's still off topic.
>>
>>17029024
His "philosophy" reduces, charitably, to
>every football team needs a coach; no coach plays football.
>>
>>17029037
>let's all stand around discussing the philosophy behind football instead of just playing football!
