Adjusting the value for n changes how quickly y "slows down." But it will always have the properties listed above.

neat. im more familiar with atan or y=x^2 or something to that degree, i always interpreted "log" as like, a log from a debug console or something lol, didnt know it was a math function.

i wonder how its computed. im aware things such as sin are a lot more expensive to compute than, say, square root, but im not familiar with log...

A logarithm is essentially the inverse of exponentiation.
log_n(x) is basically asking "what number can you raise n to the power of such that it equals x?"
So if 2^3=8 then log_2(8)=3.

One hand-calculation algorithm for log base 10 is to write the number in scientific notation and repeatedly raise it to the power of 10. For example [math]((2^{10})^{10})^{10} = 2^{1000} \approx 1.1 \times 10^{301}[/math] so [math]\log_{10}(2) \approx 0.301[/math].

You can also evaluate log base e (abbreviated [math]\ln[/math]) using a power series:
[math]\ln(1 + x) = x - \frac{x^2}{2} + \frac{x^3}{3} - \frac{x^4}{4} + \cdots[/math]
