it's true that some stuff remains unclear though, for example the exact mechanism of the entropic params like Hofmeister series ions (though it seems to have to do with the hydrophobic effect on non-polars / surface tension, which is also quantum fuckery)
By comparison the enthalpic params (lattice and hydration energies) are well-understood

You can approximate or statistically infer the entropic params, but it's not something you can calculate without molecular simulations, no. Because quantum fuckery. That's not the same as "no one knows why"
Enthalpic params are fairly straightforward closed form Coulombic equations though.

Fact is no model, including simulations, predicts solubility.
I dont dismiss simulations, a complex model doesnt have to take the shape of a beautiful algebraic formula, the math might simply require billions of calculations. Thats still a model, yet it doesnt exist for this.
