I have read that most things dealing with fungus has to be very clean
im sure its more complicated than that but it makes me wonder how it can be so prolific in nature but sensitive in artificial settings

It tends to fight off most bacteria, but if you're using coffee, then it takes actual luck for a mold spore to not get there first

Doing things cleanly help make sure you're growing unintended fungi

Something fun about fungi is that each of them has their feeding preferences, so for example if you were using cardboard as a substrate, then it would take actual legit luck for it to get infested by something other than what you're trying to grow.

The hyphae can also bridge gaps that bacteria can't, so if you have an infected mycelium block, you can cover it with cardboard, then cover the cardboard with cardboard and you'll have clean colonized cardboard

do you use coffee because its good for oysters specifically then?

fungus is so cool
i have been reading stamets mycelium running recently and it is pretty good
they did one test with diesel contaminated soil and used oyster mushrooms to clean it successfully in about 9 weeks
i think id like to get into fungi more but dont have much room unfortunately

It's the best I can do for free. Things like sugar cane bagasse + onions/rice husks are better

I think oyster mushrooms will eat polyurethane and polyethylene too. Breddy powerful enzymes.

these infections by fungi are aggressive if they take hold, and your body cannot fight off fungi the immune system has no defenses against them. You have to use antifungal drugs if there are any around, regular antibiotics wont help
