Hypothetically, there should exist a way to completely override the response to nociception, like in the case of surgery performed under hypnosis.The trick would be finding out how to induce it. Pain doesn't equal unpleasantness by some force of commitment, its just a lot of brainwork in a healthy system. You would have to make it unhealthy, like we do chemically.
