Been doing math for 3 hours a day for a week and a half using mathacademy.Started on the "MathematicalFoundations I" course and I'm just about done with the fractions section (You gotta do like 40 of them). It honestly felt like a needlessly convoluted way of teaching you how to work out the numbers, because it felt like there were 20 more rules than there really were, which was tripping me up all the time because it felt like a lot of memorizing, so you got constantly confused about what method to use. It also wanted you to learn "models" and I just don't see how that's useful unless you are a child.Anyway, what I want to ask you math nerds is if you can "easily" grind more than 3 hours a day and still have good retention and learning speed? My goal right now is mainly to get to algebra 1 and 2, but that seems like it would be months away at the current pace. Though, my hubris refuses to believe it's even close to being so hard you need some 400+ hours of math before you touch it. And if it's really that way, then I have no choice but to grind mercilessly.
you can do it bro just keep grinding. i can do like 6 hours a day of math research, so there is definitely some room. but yea its good not to rush the material, get comfortable with concepts before moving on
>>17033553Currently I do 3 hours in the morning and it for sure feels like I could probably fit in 2, or 3 more hours if I had to later in the day when my brain is more refreshed. Though of course I will be a bit less mentally sharp in general by that point.

More like a dependency graph where for some concepts you need to understand other concepts. You could start learning parts of algebra right now. But if you're weak on fractions, you'll get tripped up whenever a problem involves a fraction, either as part of the problem or as part of the solution. So you do need to get your fractions down, although you don't need to let that stop you from exploring other topics.

That's what happens after you understand how everything emerges from those 3 rules. That's why credit cards are "secure": 22 digits of random noise can't be learnt on a glimpse (maybe you can if you are von neuman but that's 0.1% of the population and that % spends time in other things rather than stealing credit cards). However the complete name of a coworker can be learnt with hearing It only once. It should be harder since it's a similar length in terms of digits and there are 24 possible characters for each digit instead of 10. You can do that because there is an understanding behind It. You don't store each digit alone, you store a concept that encodes the information. You understand english even when you couldn't teach It because you are not even aware of the rules anymore, but they are still in your head. Math is taught that way because you have 30 kids in a classroom each one with a different iq, a different intuition, different levels of cognitive development, etc. Only way to get away with that is resorting to one thing you know everyone has: mechanization.Understanding is the way. Understanding eventually runs dry but it happens way too far from the place you are at now.

You're either good at absorbing it, or you're not, that's the sad realityThis is why I think putting pressure on children to study hard no matter what is evil, they should just reveal their ability and they should be steered towards the right path when appropriate. Someone who's never going to grasp math should just never bother if they're never gonna get a job that requires it anyway

>>17033525You can do more than 3 hours a day just keep doing it until you get so bored you can't compute anymore, then take a break and come back later and go until you can't anymore again. The cap is just whenever exhaustion sets in, not whatever arbitrary hour mark you have decided on. So sometimes it will also be less than three hours.
You can, i'm doing like 6 hours a day right now, and about the retention, doesnt' math academy already uses Spaced repetition?I'm not using mathacademy, but i do incremental learning, where i'll be adding any formulas/core heurisitcs, etc to anki after i do them (only when i fully understand them).And for problems, i won't go through all of them problems again and again, but will add the ones i failed really bad, to anki (with larger repeat intervals). Never blindly memorize any formula/proof/etc. but actually try to derive it by yourself until it fucks you up.As of now its working out so great.
