I could not solve this in 20 seconds and needed it explained to me. I know (but am rusty) on calculus, laplace TFs, Mohr's circle, PID systems, and yet this eluded me. Am I just lacking in the part of my brain for critically thinking? Can you get it in 20s?
In fact I'll also say even ODEs and several styles of integration by parts is very difficult from the sole fact that I don't always look at a problem and can piece together what technique will help me simplify or solve equations. I'm capable but lacking the ability to see something like this makes me feel like a total brainlet.

Me neither. I guess these kids are prepared for those kinds of "trick puzzles" if they really do it in 20 seconds. The trick I guess is to know there is a trick; then you could probably do most these puzzles quickly yourself too. I just do math so it took me a while to see the pattern is that all numbers are reversible. Give this to a mathematician (or accountant) and he'll first start looking for a pattern in the numbers he's seeing because that's what the assumed instructions are (your brain assumes instructions and associated pictures/data to be right side up if you can read them all normally).

Correct.

lol it's 87 upside-down.

Mathematician here it's literally just 87
You don't need special training to solve this.
If you have EVER parked in a parking lot with numbers like this you know that the numbers are made to be readable as you are coming into the spot, so if you take the perspective of the driver in the car, you can clearly see that the numbers are flipped as shown and see that it's just a sequence.

I've travelled in 13 countries and I haven't seen a single parking lot with numbers in my entire life.

I don't drive though.

You're on sci. You should accept that all your experiences are just anecdotal and that we need a double blind study to determine if numbered parking spaces exist.

Holly crap, and I was breaking out the finest maths for a minute or two.

Holy shit
>>
>>17035192
The thing is, 87 isn't "reversible" like the other numbers are
>>
>>17035192
I assume this is bait but.
From a common sense real-world perspective it's simple and obvious and makes perfect sense right.
But if you take it as an abstract math problem you may overthink it.
I wonder if a young person would find a problem like this easier ironically. I don't know though.
The text around the image probably trains your brain not to consider looking at the image upside-down.
It took me longer than 20 seconds.
