Solar eclipse of August 12, 2026Here are a few links to learn more and watch it online. If you're watching it outdoors, don't forget to wear the proper protective equipment for your eyes and your phones.https://www.youtube.com/live/DRDx2xDR8NAhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solar_eclipse_of_August_12,_2026https://www.nasa.gov/https://www.esa.int/
>>17035537>Spain and Iceland supposed to see most of the sun being blocked by the moon.>Totally different latitudes, nearly the same longitude.I thought the inclination of the moon is around 5 degrees? Not 90?
>>17035537fake and gay. the chances of the Moon looking like its the same size as the Sun needs odds so astronomically high as to be impossible.
>>17035573so does you having a consciousness and using it to post shit like this
>>17035537don't have the glasses from 1999 anymorerip
its aliens flexing on how they can place the moon in exactly the right position
>>17035574perfect solar eclipses dont exist anywhere else in the ENTIRE universe. this is no accident.
>>17035573Earth is flat
>>17035581name a place in the universe where 4chan exists
About 40 minutes until it commences. And then around 20:30 for totality. I'm in Valladolid.
>>1703558920 hours? scammed again
>>17035591The Solar eclipse lasts between 1 and 2 hours, depends of where you are.The TOTAL Solar eclipse lasts between 1 and 3 minutes, also depends of where you are.
>>170355911 minute 27 seconds should be the totality here.
>>17035537Be honest with me bros. Just HOW bad is it to look at the solar eclipse (with perscription sunglasses) just for a second or two? I know they say sunglasses aren't enough but would I really do that much permanent damage just giving it a quick glance?
>>17035601They're now saying not to take photos of it with your phone because "it could damage the camera" they really don't seem to want people to look at it
>>17035602That's because people would look directly at the sun to get a shot on their phones.
>>17035601It can blind you.
>>17035602>>17035603What if I used the front-facing camera: so I'm looking down at my phone which is recording the eclipse behind me? I don't care too much if that camera is damage.
>>17035605surely my eyes won't explode from looking at it for <1 second rightt. lazy eye can look at the sun on a normal day for seconds on end and somehow still works as badly as ever>eclipse captcha
>>17035601Solar eclipse or not, you should NEVER look at the Sun without protections.
>>17035607Wearing sunglasses will make literally zero difference. Don't be a cheapskate, just buy eclipse glasses for a few euros, they should be available everywhere.
>>17035609NTA but they’re literally impossible to buy in the UK. This country is a joke.
>>17035610You could have bought them online a week ago but now it's obviously too late.
>>17035609I'm not >>17035601, I was just talking about rawdogging it desu(not that much of a cheapskate just too lazy to go into town now)
>>17035601just build a pinhole camera with a pringles tube
I made glasses with a needlehole on both eyes for watching the eclipse, will they blind me?The required safety, wanting scientific industrially made glasses seems overbearing.
>>17035576According to ((the media)) they degrade and you need to buy new ones
>>17035626Sun's coming to stab you in the eyes, cardboard isn't going to stop himBUY BUY BUY the glasses
>>170356095 euros here (scandalous) and no more stock since yesterday
Im already bored
>>17035629>t.Ray-ban
>>17035629The light going through that minute needle hole is going to stab to death my eyes, it doesn't make sense.
20 mins
>>17035634the size of the hole has nothing to do with the strength of the light that comes through
>>17035638less light will come through, therefore it will be less strong.
>>17035626I am not 100% sure but I think this could be worse than watching it without glasses. When I was a kid I sometimes watched directly into the sun for minutes and I still don't need glasses, I think the issue with the Solar eclipse is that the surrounding is so dark, so your pupilles will expand and be much more vulnerable. An alternative could be using a DVD but with anything that is not certificated, you should only use it for a a few seconds and not the whole time.
>>17035601It's no big deal. I look directly in to the sun all the time and I'm fine.
>>17035626The sun is literally the most powerful object in the solar system by several magnitudes. Even if it is 150 million km away and much of the energy gets absorbed by the Earth's atmosphere, it still manages to be the energy source for most of the processes on Earth. It's not too much of a stretch to believe that you need specialist equipment to look directly at it for any meaningful amount of time.
It's slowly happening over hereIt's a shame we have to use specialised glasses to see anything
>>17035645Honestly, me too (with sunglasses on). Didn't realise how bad that was until this thread.
If you have welding glasses, use those.
>>17035644>I think the issue with the Solar eclipse is that the surrounding is so dark, so your pupilles will expand and be much more vulnerable.I know, that's why I'm trying to decrease the sunlight as much as possible.>When I was a kid I sometimes watched directly into the sun for minutes and I still don't need glassesThat hasn't been a problem for anyone, me as well. Some studies even suggest it improves the sight and your natural reactions prevent you from blinding yourself.I almost can't see shit throught my holes, frankly speaking.
>>17035641do you think photons are an inch thick? even a single stream of photons from the sun is enough to cause permanent damage you mouthbreather.
>>17035651To clarify, solar eclipse are more dangerous than looking directly at the normal sun, that almost has never complications.
>>17035653("that" meaning the latter)>>17035652cool down.
Goddamn
>>17035654kek you have no idea how many trillions of photons are still getting through your little hole. ignore what I said, use it, you'll be fine.
HOLY SHIT
>>17035656nice black circle you got there
>>17035657Thank you, it's as I initially preconceived.
do people even live in iceland?
CLOUDS HAVE COME OUT AND THERE HAVE BEEN NONE ALL DAY REEEEE
>>17035656Woah, I see... a hole.
Every single eclipse there's the same faggotry about looking at it. You can find countless case studies in medical literature of retarded kids or people on drugs starting at the sun for 20 minutes straight and not suffering permanent eye damage. Nothing will happen from a literal 1 second peek.
>>17035665Go look at it without safety glasses then, tell us about it tomorrow.
>>17035665you're retarded, the damage adds up and kids heal better than older people
you can look at the eclipse with perfect safety while it is in totality.just don't look at it before or after
say hi
25 minutes to go.
>>17035675>Photo of the sun without safety glasses to protect anonsAAAAAAIIIEEE You'll receive my medical bill tomorrow
This was the max here

Good damnit anon. Get a better camera.
>>17035678Here is one through safety glasses. The cell phone camera really sucks through them, it is almost at halfway now.

Paris is getting dark, impressive
>>17035685yo thanks for that link got a new wallpaper now
Caught it at around 81% coverage
It's not had my full attention, but it's kinda crazy how up until around 80/90% you'd be hard pressed to know anything unusual was even happening
>>17035694Even at the high 90% it's not much difference
watching ESA
>>17035679>>17035681>>17035684thank you, I was hoping for Anons' photos
Clearly less light now.
I couldn't see shit because it was cloudy. God wanted to save my sight.
Is this their reward for winning the world cup?
And here with welding glasses, I am glad my phone has 5x optical zoom and 30x optical+digital zoom
Man that shit was wack. It was slightly darker than usual and that's it.
>someone is spamming RIP Harambe in the associated press streamkek

It is actually getting dark here. Still 10 minutes until totality.

Thank you for the pictures, anons. I'm in the Alps and unfortunately I only managed to see the early beginning before the sun went behind a mountain.
I still remember watching the total solar eclipse in 2019. It was one of the best decisions I've ever made (2020 was impossible to go to, and I don't think I'll live to see the other two in my country until 2048 or the 2070s)

>>17035717Goddamn, what a great looking eclipse.Wish I could have seen this one with my naked eye.I saw the last one over America and viewed a prominence with my telescope, I'll never forget the color of it for the rest of my life. This one clearly had a great one to see.The corona looks beautiful, too.<3

South UK with added sun spot.
>>17035751From the Midlands
>>17035755nice one m8. what camera/lens/filter did you use for that?
>>17035757Thanks. It's an A6300 body, SEL70350G (350mm) and an el cheapo phone filter hot glued onto a 3D printed mount.
>>17035757>>17035761How about you, if the previous pics are yours?
From Spain, with my digital scope, never saw a total solar eclipse before, this is surely something, the weirdest thing I ever witnessed in my life.
Saw it from London, was kinda shit imo
I glanced over my shoulder at the sun during it once. Now my eyes kinda sting. Am I fucked?
>>17035761nice, I was really pleased to see colour in your pic. Yes, those two were mine. Take on a D850, 70-200 2.8 at 200mm, two lee filters staked - then 10 stop and 15 stop. This was my first attempt at solar photography and I did it it on a whim, so my results weren't perfect. I really enjoy the sunspot detail in your pic.
>>17035771Thank you very much. Yours actually seems less hazy than mine and I imagine a longer lens or teleconverter could get you some even more detailed sunspot action than my fuzzy filter.
Good evening, anons.
>>17035770Yeah you are. Your children and grandchildren too.
>>17035764nice diamond ring
>>17035776Nice eclipse tree shadow.
>>17035773less fuzzy? I'm surprised. I was hand holding the filters against the lens! All because I couldn't find the holder in time. Forgot to take my remote to trigger the exposure to had to put my camera, despite a very rigid tripod. I think those were taken around 40th of a second, f2.8, and some where around iso 3200. Going through the other pics, there are some instances were I get good separation on the left hand sun spots but I haven't cropped those yet.
>>17035784It's just the way it looks to my eye, I could be mistaken. My filter came pre-rippled
>>17035779Partially
pretty objects in the sky
>>17035781I am too dumb too understand why tree shadows follow the eclipse crescent shape even through the messy shapes of leaves and edges etc
>>17035797Think of each hole between the leaves as the hole of a camera obscura.
>>17035719Dark Star
>>17035719Last Ray
>>17035719Midnight Sun
>>17035815Turbo Kino
>>17035739Yeah, I stared at the sun during the eclipse and I'm fine.
I've only seen a couple partial eclipses in person, totality must be really cool to be in even if its just like 2 minutes. The fact the sky can get that dark enough you can see stars in the day is pretty awesome.
>>17035932It truly is a crazy experience. So much happens so fast it's hard to take it all in.
>>17035537remember, kids, don't stare at the sun unprotected even if it's mostly blocked by the moon
>>17035719The World Which Took The Sun For Granted Shall Now Know Pain
>>17035537I could see it personally, though I didn't have good lenses to photograph it. It could be seen well at sunset but it got pretty cloudy during the best parts.
>>17035626How's that hole in your vision now ?
>another total eclipse next year visibleIs it worth it to travel to see it?
>>17036057Depends on how far you'd have to travel and if you have the time/money to do so.
>>17036042The clouds covered the sky and the sun was setting, I decided to ditch my watch attempt as the present climate conditions were infavourable, might have been God saving my vision.
>>17035932The difference is like night and day. Most people left the place few minutes after the total eclipse because watching the final partial phase felt pointless after you've witnessed the total phase. The biggest difference is being able to look at it for real, without glasses, seeing the halo, your surroundings and shit. Watching it with glasses is like seeing a funny little disk missing a chunk; you don't get the feeling of scale and reality.
>>17036164Btw, I have a friend who lives a few kilometers away from the total eclipse area and he wasn't sure whether it would be worth going to a near village to watch it full for a few seconds, and I hope he finally did, because the difference between 99% and 100% is everything.
>>17035694>>17035695Seriously? Starting from maybe 25-50% it feels like standing on another planet.
No fancy equipment so here's my lousy picture taken through my eclipse glasses. Maximum coverage where I live was about 90%.I took a bunch of pictures while it was happening but it's sad that they don't show how the light shifted during it. It looks like normal daytime in my pictures but in real life it was actually very particular. It was still daytime, but it was like the sunlight was only shining half as brightly as it normally does. I think one day I'll actually travel to see a complete one if it ends up happening somewhere I've been wanting to travel. There won't be another big one here until like 2080 or something, and I'm definitely not making it until then
>>17036243
I went to northern Spain too see it. My first total eclipse. It was incredible anons. Still working on putting some images I took with my DLSR. >>17035932I've seen many partial eclipses, they are nice. But a bit meh in comparison. I could see Venus easily. My friend had a little telescope and you could see the prominence clear as day. >>17036057Definitely. If you go to Egypt that one is much longer, like 5-6 minutes. This one was under 2 minutes typically. Still worth it.
>>17036563>My friend had a little telescope and you could see the prominence clear as day.I'm jealous. Did you have a timer so that you could know when to stop looking?
>>17036593We tried to, but it didn't go off. We only looked in the telescope for the first 30 seconds or so. My camera got a bit of glare as I was slow to put the filter back on, but it should be ok.
>>17035764>>1703578942°21'27"N 1°57'46"WHow close did I get?
why do people keep saying the sun will literally blind you if you look at it for one second? It depends on time of day, weather, etc.
>>17036768Well because blindness and total blindness are medically distinct.
>>17036776but it doesnt even cause partial blindness in certain scenarios, otherwise we'd all be blind from having looked at the sun for one second at one point in our lives, it's so obviously false and yet everyone parrots it like it's an iron law or something.
Is looking at this as bad as watching a solar eclipse without eye protection?
