>>17038085I think America is in a uniquely good place to start a unique policy in academia: Ban chinese students. I know Trump has gone full ZOG by now and we are only hanging onto threads, but maybe it is still possible: GET RID OF CHINESE FOREIGN STUDENTS. just this one small trick could be a huge game changer for the future of western society
>>17038089>muh chinaaaaaMany of them don't even see America as a worthwhile place to get educated today. Lol. question is, why do these rich instituitons still harbour so much dei admins and faculties like claudine gay, instead of slashing them left n right?
As always, I blame pajeets.
>>17038090thanks zhang. The causes for people like Claudine being there and people like your average chink are actually the exact same. The reason so many chinese are in american universities is because chinese international students satisfy the DEI requirements . this is the same reason why to see white males from Europe getting postdocs in ivy league schools because they get some bizarre DEIbadvantage over white males from America.the problem arises, however, because in the grand scheme the chinese males get that same advantage but there are a gorillion*x times more of them. The chinese flood is huge.don’t you have enough schools in china for you to stay there? just stop flooding us, please. in the meantime we should just enact new Chinese Exclusion laws for those fuckers. I welcome Japanese and Koreans and Vietnamese, but please, we need the chinese to stay home
>>17038096Thanks again Zhang. Just please stay out of the US. It’s funny that you are trying to race-bait about black people. I know Chinese folks are like basically the most racist against blacks. Just tell that to your fellow slant eyes that if you go to school on the US you have “nignog… low iq niggers“. That is literally how chinese people think—the most racist people on earth are the Chinese. It all goes to show that Chinese motherfuckers should just do what they always have done— keep to your “middle kingdom” for yourselves and keep your toxic culture away from the rest of us
>>17038101lmao, you're either a literal nig or a bot trained on noggery
>>17038103you’re a chink trained on eating dogs and breeding coronaviruses
>>17038085Have a look at Retraction Watch. It is a horror show and it is getting worse, day by day. Also amazing to note that they didn't zero out arts, humanities, social sciences or history.
So now that the obligatory race pleasantries are over, can we talk about the OP? Whaa, 75% PhD cut at Harvard, why? Is it unique to Harvard?
>>17038170>Is it unique to Harvard?amongst the big names, it seems to be so and could also be the signs of things to come
>>17038170Don't care, but Harvard has $60B AUM, 2/3 of which is nepotistically invested in PE and hedge. Presumably no one at Harvard cares about their PhD program, either.
I thought Harvard was a prestigious law school Who the fuck wants to do scientific research at a law school
>>17038184It used to be fairly prestigious in Physics too.
>>17038085The news is over a year old
If you have a good study ethic, there's no point in going to school unless you're on the leading edge of a field. All the useful information for 99% of people is easily obtainable online, and you're probably end up knowing more than the average degreelet.
>>17038085Wasteful DEI spending cutSocial sciences and biology have <50% reproducability so they are subject to massive waste fraud and abuse
>>17038428>All the useful information for 99% of people is easily obtainable onlinePerhaps. And in my experience, this does not help you you don't have a foundation you had been taught.I used to follow a tech news site that presented the normal, superficial stuff, with a comment field under each article, mostly infested with the Wiki editor kind of hominins. So I wanted to probe this mass and asked a more in-depth technical question to yet another superficial article, relating to aerodynamics. And it became immediatly apparent that the resident "experts" were mostly second tier programmer who thought that access to Google made them an expert. And since I purposely left out the technical term, they had no hooks for seraching, and the entire discussion descended into the putrid mass of radioactive waste you typically see on Hacker News.To my surprise, I had to conclude that there were not a single person with domain knowledge there. I left.
>>17038092>this is the same reason why to see white males from Europe getting postdocs in ivy league schoollol that was the case long before DEI, cletus. The US hinges on European talent.
>>17038090>n-no w-we're not even stealing from u gweilowhy are chinkshills so obvious and why do they humiliate themselves so?
>>17038549>c-cletusthis guy is the only person using this wording as a constant insult btw and he's a known lolcow on multiple boards.
America has the best and worst of everything. Best academics in the world and the dumbest fuckers on the planet. Such a weird place. The left has taken over and has been targeting education for over 50 years and radicalisation of students is as important as studying. People who just get on with their work and don't play the politics stuff are doing great things.
I think you will find that America's intellectual output has very little to do with the amount of PhD students it has. You will now just see talented undergrads go straight into private R&D where they'll get the same opportunities they would have gotten in a PhD program, but now they won't be tax parasites.
>>17038092>The reason so many chinese are in american universities is becauseState Universities get subsidized, but get to charge chinks out of state tuition, ergo chinks increase endowments more than US citizens.
>>17038184>Harvard was a prestigious law schoolYeah, before they let females study
>>17038089Banning Chinese students is a useless gesture at this point considering the US gave them access to academic training and resources for over a century. And might I add did it in such a purposeful way that you actively promoted and pedestalized them as ""model minorities"" to denigrate your own domestic populations. Something which the Chinese would never do for you at the detriment of their domestic populations, especially their ethnic minority populations in Academia. So to now suggest banning the Chinese after they were able to build their country back up to not only regional power status, but now global super power status with ongoing plans of enacting alternative global economies and political alliances that are outside western influence is laughable.
I looked up some discussion online about this. Many people on Reddit and such say that it's GOOD that PhD positions are cut. Because the US overproduces the PhDs and there are not enough professor positions for them.I feel uneasy about this. It smells anti-intellectual (even though one of the main discussions is on r/professors). This is saying that we train too many scientists, but instead of trying to let them do more science, the solution is to reduce the number of scientists to train. It seems like a dead-end ladder-pulling strategy.
>>17039309Elite overproduction is usually bad but that is when you churn out too many social "science" and gender "studies" people who immediately consider themselves part of the elite.Real scientists and technologists and engineers is a very different group, and we need more of them. Yet to get the benefit of more STEM, we need to exterminate the fraudsters that infest academia, see Retraction Watch.
>>17038085The cuts and such, together with all DEI discussion, are pretty irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. Since WWII, the US had a head start economically compared to continental Europe. Looking at postdocs and professors, it is very clear that the US has relied on European excess production in top researchers to move, which they could essentially subsidize thanks to the petrol dollar. The converse is not true; Euro academia does cross pollinate but US researchers are practically nonexistent. However, the US model has always been unsustainable in the long term. They don't produce enough on their own to replenish themselves because most institutions are incredibly subpar. The amount of (domestic) good people not even trying to enter academia and being head hunted by private enterprise is not going to increase. The amount of Europeans willing to choose the US over China or staying in Europe is not going to increase either. They can hope to skim the top from other places, but again, even their koffers aren't bottomless. And what then?
