is there any examples of someone who is NOT a math expert or computer science expert actually successfully using this to solve an open math problem?

the biggest problem for a retard trying to use AI to solve problems seems like it would be that they would be so ignorant of the state of math that they wouldn't even know what they don't know and wouldn't even know where to start with prompts to not just get trivial proofs

No, you won't. LLMs are a lottery. Sometimes they give you the right answer, but most times they don't. Hence completely random people getting LLMs to solve open problems. They got the winning lottery tickets.
