what is this image?

is the compass backwards because space time that far away is actually in the past so it's reversed on it's astral plane?

god I feel so smart hypothetically

lmc. i think the compass directions are relative to earth's surface.

Hold your phone above your head, to see that it fits, if you can't imagine why.

The compass is there to point out the true headings, the image having been recorded facing west in the southern hemisphere (or just flipped for artistic reasons). You could have used a more high resolution version though, it really is a beautiful image. Here have a better one.

The compass doesn't flip on the southern hemisphere, anon. It's because you're looking up, instead of down. Try >>17040988
>>
>>17040993
No but it does make north face left and west face up when you do it in the southern hemisphere. If you did it in the north would be facing right.
>>
>>17040995
No, it works exactly the same on both hemispheres. The cardinal directions are mirrored because you're looking up.
>>

Ok you got me it's past my vodka time. However it was taken from the south, Chile if I'm not wrong.

>what is this image?
It's an image of the Large Magellanic Cloud taken by the MPG/ESO 2.2-metre telescope.

>is the compass backwards because space time that far away is actually in the past so it's reversed on it's astral plane?
No you retard. It's because you're standing on the Earth looking outwards towards the celestial sphere.

You're inside look out instead of outside looking in.
