Every time some talks about some health problem there will always be a section in the crowd that jumps out with "gene editing!" "well there's always crispr..."

But what does using crispr actually entail? Do you fly to china and jump in the crispr medical bay and they rearrange your genes? Or is it some injection? And what can even be achieved with it? Can you make your face 20 years younger using it or

Crispr is future tech like fusion, quantum computers, etc. It's always 20 years away.
>>
Just man up and die like the rest of us. Do you really want to live forever? Shit probably sucks after the first few centuries.

Genetics is a pseudoscience.

It's almost a decade old at this point actually.

People have been DIY in their garage for years.

crispr works better on the fertilized egg because it's just a single cell. if you're a grown up, you probably have billions of cells with the wrong dna, so it can't be changed easily (hard to reach, target, and verify that the change happened without errors)
it has been done sometimes in life threatening situations, but usually crispr is something that it's used in the background and not as the first line treatment

If by garage you mean China. Check the family history on this one.

You can buy DIY crispr kits online for $100. Here's an example

the difference between them is that crispr is well understood and implementable aside from red tape. quantum computers and fusion have tech barriers (struggling to actually create), not red tape.

Lysenko was wrong about biological inheritance, but right there is no *single* discrete unit of inheritance. The process of reconstructing life is strictly a top-down one based on stochastic, emergent cellular processes, not a bottom-up one where genes act as blueprints.
