How often do you use Algebra in your job?

Just today I used algebra to compute the weighting factor used to compute the known weighted average from two known values. In other words a,b,c were known, looking for 0<w<1 where

I use calculus, analysis and algebra at home almost more than I do at work, though. Sometimes out of curiosity, like to understand the flow rate of coffee or similar things. Sometimes for accounting purposes or in debates.

I computed some Galois representations while cleaning toilets today.

Nah it was a V60, the differential equation you get is a bit funky since the fluid flows through a conical coffee bed (which gives you a a neat power law without resistance), and you can model the coffee itself as a continuous medium with a finite resistance.
The only approximations made were the usual, incompressible coffee, rotation free, disregarding clinging to the walls (even water level).
