What does the science say about flossing? Is it worthwhile, or is it a scam?
>>
yeah it's a scam by big dental so you spend 5 bucks a year and waste 2 minutes every evening
>>
>>17071631
This. Don't believe their lies.
>>
>>17071631
To give credit to OP if flossing was a "scam" then obviously it would in fact spread bacteria or wear out the teeth or something to that effect which then would cause more holes and more visits to the dentists. It's not but just saying.
>>
>>17071638
It slowly gives periodontitis which makes you teeth fall out and force you to get expensive implants.
>>
>>17071629
I doubt many peoples teeth fall out just because they dont floss, probably not worth the effort since its significantly more annoying than just brushing
>>
>>17071666
>probably not worth the effort
go floss once and smell it
your gums will also thank you if you floss consistently
>>
>>17071670
My gums should just shut up and do their jobs without having to be pampered like a delicate little princess. My eyes are far more fragile and are exposed to the environment for half of the day and they dont go "oh nooo we need eyedrops twice a day everyday or we will bleeed :(". The human mouth is pathetic
>>
>>17071631
>big dental
some ophiocordyceps sensu latu is triggering behaviors designed to propagate its spores on everything you touch. also, resist the temptation to inhabit roadway underpasses
>>
>>17071673
Are you constantly grinding potato chips against your eyes and lubricating them with carbonated, sugary acids? Do you let crap sit jammed between your eyelids until tye damp, acidic environment eventually softens the material enough to break free? Are your eyeballs a spawning ground for microbes that shit out a cocktail of corrosive compounds?
>>
>>17071629
Food gets stuck between your teeth, bacteria feed on it and their waste decays your teeth. Flossing removes the food so there is nothing for the bacteria to feed on, pretty simple to understand. What are you? 12?
>>
>>17071673
this, wtf man
>>
>>17071629
chicks sure do love 8 week old food stuck between youre teefs
>>
>>17071728
bacteria lives matter, speciest
>>
imagine flossing
total flosscuck death
>>
I want to but my teeth are too tightly packed so it's a PITA. I have my wisdom teeth so that's probably why
>>
i have gum disease and a dentist told me my teeth would fall out like 8 years ago. Haven't been to a dentist since and no teeth have fallen out yet, although some parts of a couple of side teeth have come off. I have basically no gums left and the only reason i believe i still have teeth is because i floss after every meal (by necessity really, i can feel the food in my teeth because i have no gums)

This

We weren't made to live past 40, our teeth are a prime example of this

Why the sudden sexist comment?

You can find threads of different thickness. What helped for me was just getting floss with wax on it
>>

You realize that you'd have to floss 32 teeth every evening? That's way more than two minutes if done properly.
Also flossing is just painful. No thanks. I'll gladly pay 100 bucks once a year for "dental hygiene" where the dentist cleans all the residue at once.
>>
By having a quick look at the wiki pages I could also not find any strong evidence that flossing prevents parodontitis.
>However, the effect of using dental floss alone is difficult to quantify. There is a lack of (convincing) evidence that regular flossing in addition to toothbrushing reduces cavities or dental plaque. On the other hand, the incidence of gingivitis can be reduced.
>>
I started flossing in my mid 20s. After a cavity filled youth, they stopped entirely. I am the only member of my family with dental health not described as "declining". None of them floss.
>>
If you're curious about the effects of flossing, you should eat some ribs for dinner, brush your teeth in the evening like usual, then go floss afterwards.
You'll be shocked at how much gunk still remains between your teeth even if you take the time to properly brush your teeth.

As a side note, you should also switch over to an electric toothbrush if you haven't already. Just get the cheapest brand so you don't think about replacement costs when it inevitably stops working. Your gums will thank you.

Personal anecdotes aren't science, chud.
>>
>>17071629
just brush properly.
>>
>>17071629
As of 2017 there was no actual study proving flossing did anything to improve gum health.

With that said you’re a fucking retard if you think leaving rotting half digested food trapped under your gum tissue agaisnt your teeth in a warm damp environement is a good idea.

How fucking clueless do you have to be to rebel agaisnt personal hygiene?

>Are you constantly grinding potato chips against your eyes
NTA but yes

>be lazy depressed fag
>don't brush for years
>finally get mental health fixed, get money, go to dentist
>plaque so bad I'm at risk of losing all my good strong teeth
>two long painful sessions of ultrasonic cleaning and $3,000 later, all teeth saved

don't be a fag like me.

Brushing is competing against flossing, which is also competing against rinsing.
The only thing that matters, is that the buildup or loss of enamel is defeated enough to stop permanent damage from being the next step.

So if the area of your teeth near the gum is caked, you are going to get gum loss and possibly weaker teeth there.
Brush already do the exposed area of your teeth fine, but not the gumline or between the teeth.
