Why they never evolved into an intelligent species?
they did, who do you think the reptilians are
>>17072506Lack of evolutionary pressure. Life was good, munching leaves while semi submrged in how swamps.
>>17072539Havent you seen the monstrosities that came about around that time? Lack of evolutionary pressure my ass.
>>17072539The bri'ish people were subjected to the same evolutionary pressure and yet humanoids emerged from the bog
>>17072506>Why they never evolved into an intelligent species?they literally did
>>17072553Not like birds you idiot. I mean some species that would have technology, build infrastructure or objects like humans
>>17072558Just uplift some other species, you... You...Double nigger
>>17072558They did.They left.>>17072553>>17072565My Men.
>>17072536Based knower.
>>17072506They didn't need to.
>>17072543That pressure led to them growing in size. Kinda like today where no predator will attack an adult elephant.
You don't evolve outta clade.
>>17072634Wrong.
>>17072506Why do you think intelligence is the goal of evolution?
>>17072657Is not a goal, but so far the greatest advantage. Stronger muscles, better senses, bigger size, etc, are nothing compared to intelligence.Humans represent 30% of all land vertebrates body mass, and 65% is the animals we farm (beef, pork, chicken, etc). We achieved it because intelligence. We didnt adapt to the environment, we adapted the environment to us.
>>17072675>cancer represents 30% of my body mass>cancer didnt adapt to my body, it's adapting my organs to itselfGreat argument.
>>17072687I knew some cunt would start talking about bacteria, viruses or something like that. I am comparing big animals like the dinosaurs that existed for a very long time with humans, not with bacteria or single cells. Killing all vertebrates could happen, killing all bacteria is not going to happen, you would have to destroy the planet to kill them all, and even then maybe some could survive. So in terms of evolution, being single celled and adaptable as fuck is much better than intelligence. Also cancer has nothing to do with independent organisms, is your own cells getting out of control. But that doesnt explain why a dinosaur species with intelligence at the level of humans never evolved.
>>17072694>I am comparing big animals like the dinosaurs that existed for a very long time with humansDinosaurs managed to last for 165 million years. Humans have been around for 300,000 years. Homo Technotroonicus has been around for maybe 400 years and is clearly nearing the terminal stage.
>>17072675Well we're still seeing how intelligence plays out for humans. We could all end up dead real soon, which would show high intelligence really isn't the way to go.
>>17072539lol if this was true then humans would have never evolved.
>>17072543>Havent you seen the monstrosities that came about around that time?Sure. And they git bigger and bigger, eating ever more leaves. Still no evolutionary pressure towrds intelligence, as is the topic at hand.>>17072788Humans arrived much later. Living semi-submerged in hot bogs was no longer on the cards.
>>17072506Because natural selection seeks optimal traits (or as close as it can get) for reproductive success in a species' ecological niche. Evolution is not forward-thinking or goal-oriented. Yes it turns out that intelligence past a certain point becomes a superpower, and the species can escape the pressures of its environment and live anywhere, but as it would have to happen incrementally, there would need to be consistent reproductive advantages to increased intelligence every step of the way. And nothing comes for free. Any resources devoted to the brain, which is a very expensive organ, are not used elsewhere. It just turns out that it wasn't until humans that the fluke of superintelligence came about (and not even in all groups of humans).
>>17072698brains fast tracked adaptability, it's a step up from selection. you can use a lot of environmental information to increase your chances of survivalwe won't die, not all of us.
>>17072543>Lack of evolutionary pressure my ass.yeah that's why birds are still here. they're literally dinosaurs. they were fit to survive what happened.
>>17072506Luck, and mammals are uniquely suited to supported to evolve large brains and social structures. But mostly luck, the evolution of human level intelligence took so many factors going right that if you replayed the history of earth slightly differently I could easily imagine high intelligence doesn't evolve
>>17072506Dinosaurs are fake and gay.
>>17072506you don't live 150 million years if you're doing it wrong
>>17072506this is a bird. there is a band of pollution that shows they polluted the earth at a rate 10,000 that of humans.
Birds are intelligentGreys dont exist
>>17072675>Stronger muscles, better senses, bigger size, etc, are nothing compared to intelligence.Intelligence is useless if you get crushed without seeing it coming. The evolution is probably highly intertwined. There may be body plans that are useless without intelligence, as they need complicated control, or sensory organs that need heavy processing to be advantageous. Stupid people have extreme difficulty with perception.
>>17074625>Intelligence is useless if you get crushed without seeing it coming.Yeah in the past big predators like lions could kill us easily in nature but once we developed our weapons enough their physical superiority meant nothing. In the long run intelligence always beats physical strength.
>>17074640>In the long run intelligence always beats physical strength>long runLol. Lions have been around 5 time longer than humanity and will likely outlive this deformed garbage species. Humans can be intelligent but humanity is a mindless cancer.
How smart were small predators? did they hunt in groups?
>>17074646Fuck it, let's use biotech to revert into fauna, Doctor Moreau style
It requires an upright bipedal body to multitask
>>17072558They didn't need to be smart, dork, and even if they could they didn't have turbo mammal metabolisms or hands to take advantage of it.
>>17072506strong general intelligence opens up more paths to fitness, it doesn't guarantee fitness (well, perhaps it does at a certain time scale). human beans had to exist for tens of thousands of years with brains as smart, if not smarter, than the modern one today, before we dominated the planet. evolution is about genes spreading, and an animal is only a useful vessel insofar as it does that, never forget that anon
