hi guysdoes anyone get very eepy after taking 2nd gen antihistamines?whenever i take them i sleep for 18 hours straight and feel disoriented for the next 3 days.they also give me headachesi thought that they werent supposed to cause drowsiness bc they dont cross the blood brain barrier like 1st gens do.
>>17074847probably your body trying to recover after your immune system calms down. start stacking supplements
>>17074847I would consider taking a different antihistamine, perhaps one that didn't have a construction paper label with a single word typed on it.
>>17074847The 2nd generation antihistamines are all subtly different. Which one did you try?All of them cross BBB in a significant capacity other than fexofenadine.Other than loratadine, they're all antagonists at the H1 receptor (silent? unsure). Loratadine is an inverse agonist (diphenhydramine as well but it's first generation) which in theory means it should have subtly different effects especially at the brain.tl;dr try fexofenadine
>>17074992i have tried so many different antihistamines and they all make me sleepy. some give me more headches than others.i have tried:- bilastine- desloratadine- ebastine- loratadine- cetirizine
>>17075108Yeah that about confirms my theory. Try fexofenadine, it's the only 2nd gen antihistamine that has properly insignificant BBB crossing.
>>17075508i bought it yesterday.i got the 120mg for now since the proper dose of 180mg is with a prescription and i havent settled with my insurance yet.its been about 16h since i took it and im not feeling sleepy or cognitively "slow".will update at the 30 to 48h mark.its also worth noting that im on omalizumab which has greatly decreased the need to use anithistamines daily, only needing them once a week. still, i experience symptoms for 4 days so it would be great if fexofenadine worked.thnak you for your recommendation
>>17075606Keep in mind fexofenadine has the lowest potency of the bunch. Don't feel like it failed at the "recommended" dose, try up to 2-3x that dose before you truly give it up.
>>17075649i think that i am hypersensitive to even low doses, so its probably effective at the current dose, as i havent experienced any urticaria.for example, 5ml of liquid desloratadine is enough to knock me out despite it being a dose for children. again, thank you for your help.im a med student and losing these 3-4 days a week of productivity greatly affected my mental well-being.
try stinging nettlesmaybe golden rod
UPDATE:took my second ever fexofenadine pill.effect doesnt last long.im still not sleepy its great.
