You think this thing can actually fly in later iterations or will it only be limited to short boosts?
>>
>>17075610
consider the 'flying' version has an extra copv tank in place of the passenger seat I'd estimate the main tank is good for one 0-60 launch and the additional tank gives enough compressed air for one planned maneuver

A DeLorean lands and Musk hops out with Nike air shoes.
>>
>>17075612
supposedly it can just refill itself with like...air. depending on how long that takes, and the life span of the pumps, you should have unlimited tricks. going to drag that miles per charge efficiency down that's for sure.

seems like an interesting solution for accident avoidance in some situations, but not in all cases obviously, car doesn't know what's going on in landing area and could drop from the sky on a few kids for example
>>
They probably already tested the idea with Transit Elevated Buses (TEB) or straddling buses, which are designed to ride on tracks high above regular car traffic so that cars can pass underneath.
>>
>>17075610
If they add a set of helicopter blades then sure it could fly in later iterations.
>>
>>17075610
Later designs could incorporate a ducted fan and a lifting body shape
>>
>>17075664
Should probably include some additional aerofoils to extra lift and maybe swap the electric engines and batteries for a more weight to power efficient liquid fuel and jet engine layout
>>
>>17075668
Yep and possibly do away with the powered wheels altogether
>>
>>17075670
Ye honestly don't really need those when you are flying, tucking them inside the fuselage when not in use during takeoff and landing is clearly the way to go.
>>
>>17075610
It's a gimmick toy.
You show it off at a billionaire meet-up and that's it. It's not supposed to be practical, it's just a flex on every other manufacturer (a lot like Bugatti Veyron)

That's its purpose and at did it spectacularly.
>>
>>17075610
I guess this is the thread I'm looking for.
Have any physics fags done the maths on whether or not this is even possible?
And even if it is, is it even feasible to carry around whatever that gas is + whatever mechanism its deployment depends on?
>>
>>17075732
it's literally compressed air, and refills itself automatically after use. it just needs an extra tank an driver only due to weigth or smth
>>
>>17075732
Rockets work, of course it's "possible" they just did it. It's not feasible or sensible in any way if that's what you are asking. A vehicle like that will never be road legal and if you have millions to burn on a flying machine just buy yourself a helicopter.
>>
>>17075737
I can guarantee you a heli is cheaper than that Roadster
>>
>>17075739
While technically you can buy a helicopter for pretty cheap it's not going to be very cheap when you consider all the costs, you need helipads in all the places where you are going and drivers to driver you (and likely the helicopter as well) around when ever a pad is further than a walking distance from your destination etc. + you definitely want to be a millionaire to justify the time savings of buying a separate vehicle just for flying around.

>>17075742
nonsense. a Robinson R22 is like 60k new cheapest version, 15k for license, and some maintnance shit yearly. + gas and whatever, but if you keep it at your home in your garage you can pretty much fly out directly if you're not in some big city thing.
plenty young people own one, mainly for training, you come off cheaper in the end than renting.
also depends where you are in the world, obviously
>>
>>17075746
And you are going to just land that on your grocery stores roof or what? Asking your office job for a helipad to commute? Going to fly that to a gas station to load up fuel and kitkats? Absolutely delusional hill to die on, just stop.
>>
>>17075734
The car that did the flips is a prop, you can't drive it. The claim that it could refill itself is just a Musk claim, not actually something the car can do for now.
The only part of the demo that may be road legal and may go into a production model is the fans that add downforce which is a decently cool feature but not very practical. The air booster is another stupid feature since the weight you carry will cripple your EV's range and is again just not useful in driving because EV's already have really good acceleration.
>>
>>17075752
unironically yes. you can do exactly that in many place. plenty people get in their helicopters and go for a coffe or to have lunch.

world is larger than you think anon, people living all kinds of lives.
this dude literally hops to nearby mountaintops for fun.

That guy is a millionaire and he does not use a helicopter as a car again just stop.
>>
>>17075758
that guy is a helicopter instructor. plenty technerds can afford an entry level heli.
who the actual fuck do you think buys a Roadster? lol

Air compressors are loud as fuck. Would be interesting to use it to do a flip in place to knock snow off of it.

Blackfly makes more sense than a helicopter if you're looking for something to be a flying car. It doesn't require a pilot's license and can land in a standard parking lot, though it doesn't fit in a single parking space.

There's always someone that just leaves the auto AI on and falls asleep. Wakes up with the car flying between freeways.
