Plato gives the first proof by induction in Parmenides 149c. The hypothesis he gives states that for any row of items n, the number of contacts between items is exactly n-1. This can be proved as follows. The base case is simple, if n=1, then c=0. Setting n=k, and adding one item, k+1, we find that the number of contacts between items is (k-1)+1=k=(k+1)-1, thus showing that a row of n items produces exactly n-1 contacts for every additional case. Based Plato. And /sci/ said philosophers haven't provided anything useful.

They aren't implied either in any way.
