Just found out about the mirror life hypothesis. Could it really wipe out all humans or is this the same as the Y2K scare where nothing will happen once mirror life is created and our bodies will still eliminate mirror life bacteria/viruses as normal?
No.
>>17080471We wouldn't be able to metabolize mirror life. But unless they have some mechanism to reverse chirality in what they are consuming (or some complex series of intermediary pathways that eventually simplifies to that) then they won't be able to metabolize us. The two forms of life would largely end up being inert to one another. There's a ton of caveats here and you can ask "what if's" until the sun comes up. But the bottom line is it's not worth worrying about.
>>17080471And what do you think about this "hypothesis"?https://youtu.be/Jb3m9Z0KK30
>>17080471I'll try with anecdote: Was making a bunch of electronic devices in 90s. Once I messed up the etching of circuit by putting the mask upside-down, giving mirror-result.As those were bigg-i$h pieces, used them anyway - resistors, caps, diodes, all two-feted okay. Transistors needed to be bent specifically, and the IC's got feet reversed upside down - or soldered from the bottom. Salvaged all of them, but gosh, what a waste of time. You can not just 'reverse' something that is made of complex components, as every one is a special case in itself. Parsing the whole DNA and switching every left to right and inverse would simply not work.
