Is there any real way to make yourself smarter, or at least get better at picking up new skills?

Say you have been dealt the midwit and add card, born in a developing countryâ„¢, and the scholarship to Tier 1/2 college pipeline is not on the table

Whats the best way to actually retain information and master new skills on your own? Any decent resources or books about this?

dual-n back (doesn't increase IQ, just helps keep you sharp and at your potential)
everything else is genetic

there are things you can do to affect other aspects of cognition but not the g factor, and all of the above is just buoying, bypassing, or reducing load on the g factor

people go to great lengths to keep themselves dumb, by constantly forcing some of their beliefs on their reality.
they do not know how to just observe.

Are there any nootropics/supplements that might help? Or are those mostly a meme
And are there any supplemental remedies against ADD related concentration and focus issues?
