I wouldn't say it's a contradiction, a person who likes Guénon's philosophy and metaphysic does not necessarily like Guénon or accept all of his beliefs, but it is interesting that Guénon himself married a brown North African, and the prospect of doing the same is so unpalatable to so many fans of Guénonism. Again, not a contradiction, in any wise it is only interesting to me.I own essentially all of his translated works, but I wouldn't call myself knowledgeable on his philosophy any further than the shitposts, only on the critique of Modernity that is common to many similar writers. Modernism, of course, beginning its germination in the fairly recent period of around B.C. 400:>It should be remembered nevertheless that Greek thought was, in spite of everything, Western in its essence and that it already contained among its other characteristics, the origin and, as it were, the germ of most of those tendencies which developed much later among the modern Westerners.>...>It cannot even be said that Greek reasoning is distinguished by an exceptional strictness; it only appears stricter than other methods of reasoning to people who are them selves in the habit of employing it exclusively, and this illusion is due solely to the fact that it is restricted to a narrower and more limited field and is therefore more easily defined. On the contrary, the faculty most truly characteristic of the Greeks, but which is little to their advantage, is a certain dialectical subtlety, of which the dialogues of Plato provide numerous examples; there is an apparent desire to examine each question interminably, under all its aspects and in minutest detail, in order to arrive finally at a rather insignificant conclusion; it would appear that in the West the moderns are not the first people to have been afflicted with "intellectual myopia."If nothing else, this "dialectical tradition" is precisely what I would call the modern "condition." (I believe Guénon himself would disagree.)
This dialectic of critique can find itself manifested primarily, in the modern day, in critical theory; contrary to the mindless conservative view, leftist critical theory, and progressivism as a whole, is the culmination of Western "tradition" and the realization of its values, rather than its "enemy." When one considers those fronts upon which the use of the dialectic of critique are today employed, they find that same interminable examination of concepts until nothing remains but a very insignificant conclusion. For example, it is necessary to question what a woman is. What is a woman? A woman is a social construct. A social construct is defined socially; a woman is whatever is said to be a woman. This is not the profound conclusion it is thought to be, it is not even closer to accuracy or reality than before (and at most, no further), but rather the "termination point" of all interminable critique; it is to abolish meaning altogether. This is the laziest method of definition, the one which is most insignificant of all, and it is to say "whatever is convenient." While seeming to be the most steadfast of definitions, it is in fact the emptiest. The justification for the definition of women as self-identification rests on "social utility," as if it were not, then it would be selecting one entirely arbitrary definition over another. And as with "woman," utility may be broken and boiled down to its component parts, critiqued until the reality is (un)known: utility is whatever is convenient, whatever pleases the individual arguer, and the one who argues their subjective definition of woman over another, merely screams:>Woman is whatever I want it to mean. I demand your obedience, or your silence. There becomes no meaningful definition behind woman, utility, goodness, suffering, and so on.
The definition of "woman," either based on a biological "reality" (whatever that means) or "social utility," is merely a form of knowledge-power. It is the assertion of power and control, power and control simply put; one's own desire to be pleased and pleasured by the "utility" gained from one definition is no greater than the other, unless one wishes to assert another and greater objective Moral Truth, a truth which, like the critique of traditional Morality, can be viscously critiqued until nothing at all remains but the name. It is this tendency to critique and to abolish all "meaning" which defines what I see as the plague of modernity.Obviously, I am using a form of critique. My own definitions, I consciously assert, are my own and arbitrary no less. I am a product of Western Liberalism, and I cannot escape it. I wish to be "Christian," but I fear what comes after, to be "Traditionalist," but I believe in no Tradition; I am, in every way, inescapably Western. Cruel, isn't it?Yes, I used this thread as a launchpad for my unhinged ranting. But if I am to add something relevant, I doubt that you will find what you are looking for here. In fact, I doubt you know what you are looking for at all.
