I’ve always wanted to see a dedicated crafts thread on SOC. There’ve been short lived threads for music, cooking, writing, and more niche hobbies, but assembling everyone “making stuff” into one thread might give us a longer runway against the other interests on the board. So if you make food, paintings, jewelry, music, calligraphy, furniture, robots, gardens, movies, and anything else that didn't exist until you put your hand to it, this thread is for you.Template:>A/S/L>About you>Crafts you do or want to learn about>Looking for>Not looking for>Disc
39/M/Santa Barbara>About youI like to learn. I like absurdity. I like colliding high and low culture. I've trained at conservatories and ateliers, but I grew up on internet stupidity and niche subcultures. It's kind of home at this point. I haven't drawn much lately, but picrel is an old pencil drawing of a friend.>Crafts you practice or want to learn aboutCalligraphy, woodworking, painting, cooking, photography, teaching myself some boatbuilding and gem cutting, writing fables. Would like to one day get into silversmithing and brazing to make objects halfway between jewelry and armor. Also learning to make illuminated manuscripts.>Looking forSomeone to share craft/art opinions with. As long as you're making something with serious intent, and are above a Sonichu level at your craft, I think we can get along. I tend to share a lot of photos of works in progress, inspiration, and thought processes. Sometimes VC while we both work could be nice. I have a regular work session with some SOC friends already and that's been useful for keeping me consistent. My jaw is broken right now so I'm probably not voice chatting anytime soon (lol), but eventually.>Not looking forNo chronic self loathers. Nobody 'trad.' I'm not, and everyone who's told me they're trad is more degen than I am. Being degen is fine, but love yourself first.>DiscSublimeSlopCannon

>A/S/L21, F, N/A>About youI write, draw, and animate, all digitally sadly, i never got around using a pen or pencil. I know a wee bit of precarious carpentry and gardendry. Im not too much into fandoms, at all anymore really, but im quite passionate about some concepts from some media; I'm very fond of spanish and south american culture and art, and early north america (fancy way to say cowboys and indians).Lately iveen enjoying the art of toying with words, epithet, improv or banter crafting and such, quick replies, you know; trying to maybe apply it to my daily life.I was running a quest until just recently but certain lack of planification led to my downfall; that being said, it did get me to draw a lot so im content with the results to date.I think im reasonably creative, i'd enjoy talking about non-normie stuff.>Crafts you do or want to learn aboutI have the long term goal of becoming able to draw anything i want from imagination; to reach that goal iveen sketching and half-assedly practicing anatomy for the last month, though i just barely managed to properly (sorta) draw the skeleton cilinder thing; otherwise, i feel i can draw pretty well given enough time and patience, it's just it takes such titanical ammount of trial and error that its not worth it at all, so i guess my goal is closer to drawing faster.Im rather decent at animation, really!>Looking forSomeone who can handle banter, can draw, and can do good conversations.>Not looking forSexLoveHappinesspitiful folksboring people>Discmerli6327Heres a bunch of my latest practices with cilinders and a pencil brush. Yes, this is an improvement.I wanna do some crazy poses without much reference in the future. My favorite thing to draw are gigantic bruwley mean and thin with strong legs and cool hand movements. It's nothing pornographic, i assure you.Nice picture you made OP

...Does just restoring stuff count?>A/S/L18 M EU>About youI like to restore or fix up old things (mainly relic military stuffs) as picrel. I can say history is my main hobby but I like to listen to people talk about anything they're interested in. For games: Minecraft and Terraria. And for shows: Welcome to the NHK! Evangelion, GuP and more so feel free to ask. But overall im kinda shy lonely guy who wants someone to talk with.>Crafts you do or want to learn aboutI'm trying to take up woodworking at the moment with varying degrees of success-. My (r.i.p) grandfather was a Carpenter so I want to atleast have 3% as much skill as him. And since I deal a lot with Photoshop/video editing I wouldn't mind seeing someone who works with it too. >Looking forEU ppls, someone with simmilar interests or just like minded person, girls included. People who want to talk with someone (about anything haha).>Not looking forPeople who don't even bother to respond or randomly dissapear. Taking 10 hrs to respond every time included in this too.discord: 1itwaps, interesting thread I wish there were more nice threads like this on here <3
>>35426218Bump with some mise en place.
I like sewing sometimes.
I almost never like drawing, though.

>>35441453Bump with Mirepoix. An aromatic foundation for classic French cuisine: carrots, onions, celery. Adds sweet, savory, and vegetal flavors without making the dish revolve entirely about the vegetable flavors. Different regions have their own variants, like Cajun holy trinity subbing out carrots for bell peppers, as seen in gumbos and jambalayas.
>>3541968334/m/AussieKnitted a scarf, started crocheting a blanket and plan to make socks but I was told it made me sound gay on my dating profiles or when I shared with girls. Rip, guess I'll stick to metalwork.
Bump does sticking drawn on eyes o to a stuffed animal count as a craft? Probably not but I like this thread regardless

>>35419683LeathercraftI took up the hobby about 10 years ago when I got sober, but let it sit idle for a few years. Picrel is my latest project: a simple belt. The buckle is reused from the storebought belt I purchased about 3 years ago. It was falling apart and I promised myself I would make my next one. The fold-over is stitched in place, and the keeper is stitched in with it. It's a really nice touch that adds longevity. Burnished edges for ease of gliding the belt thru the loops on your jeans. It's not my best work, but I am proud to have taken up the hobby again.>asl, contact, etci'm not sure this thread qualifies as an irl contact thing, but if someone wants to talk, I guess you can drop your discord or email and I'll get back to you

Cool thread >A/S/L21/M/Ireland >About youDorky guy. I make more noises than words in real life. I love all sorts of animals, big and fluffy is best. I study philosophy. I don't message first really, I'm not sure why because I miss people a lot, if that is an issue please don't message me, I promise I am interested.I mostly play games, watch stuff and do my crafts. A furry too. >Crafts you do or want to learn aboutI like to paint model kits and minatures. It takes a while for me to finish things, but I always feel so happy when I do. I will attatch an image of something I've done. I'd love to, and have tried to learn to draw, but it is a lot of work that I find hard to balance with everything else. >Looking forFriends, anything idk. As long as you can message me consistently I will be happy. Talk doesn't have to always be about craft, I'll try my best to respond to anything. I don't mind horny people, I just don't want it to be all we talk about. >Not looking forVery gay or very edgy people. I'm sorry but people who go really far either way are just annoying. It's not my thing. >Disc.nerdalert.

>>35454008Bump with deglazing/reduction. After softening the mirepoix, I add stock to dissolve the meat and veggie crust stuck to the bottom of the pan (fond). Boiling it down concentrates the flavors and the aromatics in the liquid for the next step: braising.
