Post hardware that you are using for torrenting.Here is mine :- i5 12500- 16 Go - G.Skill Ripjaws V Black - 2 x 8 Go- SSD NVME WD_BLACK 1TB- WD RED Plus 3.5" 12TB

I am looking at setting up a torrenting PC out of an old laptop. Not to torrent a massive amount, just to upload more then I download. If my bulk storage is connected via USB, am I setting myself up for pain? Is USB 2 usable, or I need USB 3?
>>1396315It depends on your connection speed, some USB boxes also go to sleep If you only use the laptop for that, put it internally and do a minimal Linux/Windows installation
>>1396408I was looking at a basic linux install with the ethermet port configured for 10 Mb as I only have 30Mb upload. My hope with the external stotage is to use hardware I already have. I will keep the point about external boxes sleeping in mind if I end up with weird behaviour.
HP Z600 dual Xeon thing running Ubuntu with two external SAS RAID 10 arrays. Two arrays each of 4 x 4TB HDD's. I've also got a less power hungry Z400 single Xeon with a quad external HBA card so I'm going to move the arrays onto that to free up the Z600. The second Z600 is a Windows 11 box that never gets switched on.Z400 already has seven internal drives and there's two more SAS drives waiting to join the arrays so it will be mounting a total of 17 HDD's. Eventually.
>>1398603Correction, one of tthose arrays is SATA and is pretty much just a backup of the SAS array
>>1398603sexy
>>1396004once the current hardware craze ends, I will retire my current hardware and repurpose it for seeding. And fill ALL of those 3.5'' HDD bays
>>1399694Nice idea anon
>>1396108No, they take taxesThey don't careFed, ced, cia, etc are all cocksucking losersHollywood of JEWS is not REALITY
Will switch from this ssd to hdds too once current prices come down
>>1400179cute, that was my first setup
>>1400179>>1400300waste of resources to use an ssd for that
>>1400300Same <3
>>1400179>once current prices come downThat will never happen again because AI has permanently ruined the prices.>>1400300It's YOU who's cute, you silly boy! :3
>>1400477>>once current prices come down>That will never happen again because AI has permanently ruined the prices. All manufacturers (except Toshiba) are upping their production capacity. Shareholders are not dumb, when prices are higher they will want to sell more units. Seagate and Western Digital have even announced their largest capacity will be 100TB drives soon. Prices will come down, don't worry.
>>1400509Increase their capacity sure but for what market. For the AI market, have you seen the videos with bins full of hdds being shredded
>>1400513>have you seen the videos with bins full of hdds being shreddedblood libel for nerds ass urban legend
>>1400509You seem to be an expert in terms of memory storage drives!Should I buy a Fikwot FX815 4TB SSD or should I buy an 8 TB Seagate One Touch External HDD in Amazon? This picture is relevant to what I said!
>>1400904My recommendation would be to buy 3.5'' HDDs and configure them in a RAID setup, preferably with a nice filesystem like ZFS.This makes the whole debate about expected lifetime of individual drives irrelevant.
old but still runs
