We need an official team for all the new faces. How about something a bit ironic like Polish Potato farmers?
>>
Since when do you need an account to analyse openings on Lichess? What a bummer

Why the hell do they have some 2500 Chinese girl going against super GMs?
>>
>>97975850
Maybe it's just their tradition. Last year there was Tan Zhongyi, two years ago Ju Wenjun.
>>
>>97975850
She could still turn it around.
>>
I told people I was living off the grid to find inner peace…
Turns out I just meant I blundered my queen and got kicked off the 8×8.
>>
>>97975850
So it's like a yearly sacrifice to their Chinese dragon gods or some shit?
>>
>>97975993
kek we already knew the chinese dont value human life
>>
>>97975850
Honestly this tournament is very weird. Putting Magnus, Arjun, and Nodirbek in a tournament with 2600s, the 4th (?) strongest woman, and a 14 year old seems designed to create some sort of vaguely fetishistic humiliation ritual

Here's a good bit of wisdom for you that is ACTUALLY useful at all levels. When your opponent has a bishop put your pawns on the same color as that bishop. (Assuming you don't also have a bishop of the same color.)
It's a rule of thumb that is easy to implement and holds true most of the time.
>But can't my opponent attack the pawns then?
Yes, that's something to keep in mind and calculate in precise positions, but generally you keep them the same color to not weaken that color complex and to take away squares from the bishop.

Example, my opponent in this position, dumbass that he is, was up 2 pawns but threw away all the advantage in one move by not following this rule.

(Meant to post this here but stupidly still had the wrong general pulled up.)
>>
>>97977121
I don't know man I feel like it depends. If you have a pawn chain yes keep it on the opponent's bishop's color complex but if you have isolated pawns around the place in some endgame you want to keep them off the opposing bishop's color complex and your opponent does well to freeze your isolated pawns on the color of their bishop.

>The heckin super GMs are playing the Petrov and exchanging all the pieces off and drawing with Carlsen, that means I can do it too!
>>
>>97977249
Yeah, that is true as well.
>>
>>97977249 (Me)
Even if you do have a pawn chain it has to be well defended else it can easily get eaten up by the opposing bishop. In your position of course the weak light squares are an issue especially with the king right there though.
>>
>>97974702
I really like 10+0, it's the perfect time control. Not fast enough that you don't have time to think about lines, not slow enough that you can take 67 minutes on one move like Hikaru. 15 minutes is just too much of a commitment, and 10 plus increment can just drag on forever.
>>
>>97977273
Yes, there are times when it doesn't work. That's why I said you need to calculate it, but if you keep in mind that it is often good then you can use it to your advantage. Like when you have connected passers that you are trying to advance, often the key is to put them on the same color as the bishop so they can't be blockaded, provided of course they can't both be eaten without queening.
>>
>>97977384
10+5 is a based time control if not for the cheaters and the fact that hardly anyone over 2400 plays it.
>>
Queen's Gambit best opening. Not Accepted, not Declined, just QG.
>>
/vg/chess/ is back
>>97977384
what makes 10+0 so frustrating is that often you spend 19 minutes actually thinking and calculating only for it to come down to bullet skills in the endgame, I'm not against no increment blitz but in rapid it should never come down to flagging, I really wish 10+2 was the default
it's made worse by the fact that almost no one plays any other rapid tc on .scam and lichess nonexistent cheat detection making it pointless to play rapid there
>>
lol jesus is it obvious when the samefag loser shows up… no posts for hours and then a bunch of self-replies.

FIDE raised the floor in January 2024.
1400 is currently the bottom, it was a "decent" rating before, nothing special.
>>
>>97977461
Nice board color is that salmon?
>>
>>97977652
Then I don’t get the OG post. Maybe he didn’t realize the starting rating is around 1400 (if that’s what you’re saying).
>>
I can't believe that anon prefers Paul Allen's board theme to mine
>>
>>97977466
I like the pressure of flagging because it means you have to be very cognizant of your time usage, which in turn makes strategy around how and when to burn time calculating more interesting. It also makes it much easier to convert winning advantages, which can be a pro or a con depending on your perspective but IMO it's very boring to spend 20-30 minutes converting a e.g. a clean piece up position because your opponent burns his entire clock looking for every last available trap (forcing you to invest similar attention) with zero risk of flagging.

What a fucking crooked scumbug he is.
He has made an AMA but hidden the information that he will be answering the questions after 2 days rofl - so that I kept checking and bumping his sorry thread.
How come that the chess players (starting with Big Boss Cucksen) are all fucking swindlers? Is it because they didn't have time for any normal interactions with other human beings due to their "careers"? Or they are just full of themselves assholes by trade?

if you look carefully, it says Saturday 2nd of May. whoever manages his social media is a retard and failed to convey the right info in the post, just posted the time without the date. also, probably failed to predict how fast the questions would come in, it was like 900 comments in the first 5 hours. now they're going to let people wait 2 days to get answers? people lose interest fast on the internet. i just hope the people running endgame.ai with him know what they're doing but so far it doesn't seem like they do.

did chess.com suddenly inflate everyone's elo? i was 1000 for years and now i'm 1300. granted, i memorized some openings like KID jobava london and stafford mainly so maybe i'm getting the upper hand, i was stalled playing fried liver/caro kann before that. i still play caro kann every now and then. or did memorization really just make me better?

i also went a very long time between the time i tried grinding to 1300 successfully, and now again on a smurf, it seems like i can get back to the rating effectively.

I was just watching a blitz match between magnus and dubov, and this is a good illustration. Take a gander at the pawns.
Even though white has a lesbian, black only has one bishop which is also a lesbian so white put the pawns on the light squares to impede it. And the black bishop runs free.
>>
>>97980695
This is good advice have you tried dming him?

All chess com cheating reports should be public.

Ggs it was weird with the lag at the end. It said you had flagged then suddenly it gave you 20 second, never saw it that bad before.

I played this stupid move which threatens mate in 2 if white plays Rg1, completely missing that he can just fork my queen and rook (there are more complications but it's +3.6).

So what did my opponent do? Thought for a minute and 18 seconds and played Rg1.

We're both complete retards. This was at 2200+ blitz.
