Warriors keep their hair short for two reasons. To wear a helmet, which is by far the most important part of armor if you are fighting with weapons.

If it was just about keeping hair out your face you can use a hair clip or any number of ways to tie up one's hair. However if you were on active duty then part of your gear would be a helmet, which means you need short hair to wear it properly.

Knights didnt have short hair (or at least it wasnt conventional in the middle ages). You dont put the helmet on directly, you put on an arming cap that dampened any blows which tucked away your hair and over it the mail coif.
Long hair isnt a problem at all for wearing armor, in fact in a medieval/rennaisance/early modern setting you would want long, pretty hair and a fancy haircut because it signals status outside of combat.

My current game has a sorcerer the players were visiting always have a small group of women with him every time they stopped by. A couple of years ago I was playing with a friend I'd known for a while outside of tabletop. Our group was facing off against a vampire and when she used her domination power my friend nudges me and says, "hey, you should choose to fail the save."

Yeah pretty much, they're a lot of fun and can make someone feel really helpless. I guess there's also a pseudo-prison implication in appearance. Right now the party has been helping build up a small town, lots of farming and mining, occasional fights with slime monsters. As for the kinks, the village elder is a human woman who is living with her lover, an elf woman and they treat basically everyone as if they are their grandkids. So I think the setup should be generic enough to be piloted by someone else in a pinch, but some customization to the user is expected especially when it comes to unique functions/custom modifications. But the main issue I can see is needing to continuously work a pole while trying to hit the afterburner. It needs to fire when I want it to, not 30 seconds after. Maybe some non-emergency functions or when it's on autopilot, that might be a more responsible way to stay in shape.

I think once you start describing how your setup is built for sex is stops being a tabletop game and becomes more of a game where you get topped on the table. There isn't even a game here right now. Transformation and monster-people.

In my setting there's a rare category of magic that can only be used by people born during certain celestial arrangements. You've got the talent or you don't and most people don't. This is transmutation magic, changing living things from one to another. Like all magic it still takes experience and study to use it well. A practitioner could change a person into a shape more suitable to their work or role, like a fisherman changed into a mer-person or a criminal into some punitive form. An experienced practitioner could also change the mind of someone to believe something different or make an enemy or rival into a loyal retainer, letting them carve out converts (or slaves).

All the current and extinct civilizations and all the non-human species are descended from rulers who practiced this talent in one time or place, even if the actual person who did it died generations ago. While a practitioner could physically change someone to extend that person's lifespan, they couldn't safely transform themselves in the same way you can't perform brain surgery on yourself. Most rulers with the talent eventually die leaving a mundane place inhabited by unique people.

The setting is also inherently unstable, because even if someone is a practitioner there's no protection against this magic beyond "don't be caught" and no way to identify if someone else has it until they use it. There's also no easy way to prevent people from being born during these rare but inauspicious times without trying to monitor and census every birth in your territory. In a large enough place, a child might slip through and it only takes one with ambition to threaten your position. Practitioners of the magic are therefore paranoid and unlikely to cooperate with each other outside their immediate family. Even that can be risky and the talent isn't hereditary.

Is this subtle? I don't know.

A friend set me on the idea at first, with it being Memes.
A joke answer, but taking it literally, magic is found in the symbolism, connotations and meanings behind an action.
30k has something like this with Daemons actually, where it's easier to kill them in melee because they're slain symbolically, while resistant to orbital fire or artillery by and large.

Magic, is also anathema to materiality. Meaning and symbolism run against physical reality and causality.
Humans are VERY weird for being able to do both at once.

An Elf is a long-lived magical creature, typically described as tall and beguiling, but able to vary. They are not human.

An Elf is a creature fundamentally made up of magic, meaning and symbolisms. Their swords are perfectly sharpened to monomolecular thinnness, their bows shoot perfectly straight without consideration to gravity.
Their guns, deadliest in existance, are just oddly shaped spears, made of a solid structure because their action is just 'kill at a distance'.

Biologically, their appearance, even to the point of their clothes, is greatly determined by both their current nature, as well as the very land they stand upon.
They're typically tall, as a metaphysical consequence of being powerful. And typically beautiful or beguiling, as a consequence of their character (though not always human).
Also, Elves struggle with algebra or complex math and sciences. They get around it a bit with being stunning philosophers.

They explicitly 'make love'. Which is basically sex, just for bonding and pleasure. But it's not how they reproduce.

How they reproduce, is by teaching other creatures, be they plants, woodland animals, or other humans, how to be Elves.
This takes place over millennia (though time works differently in their world), where the creature is taught by their patron how to be an Elf, who will occupy a unique nature and aspect all of their own. The more significant that aspect, meaning, identity or nature, the more powerful the Elf, and the higher rank they are.

Hence, being born ancient. As functionally by the time there is an Elf, they've been around for millenia.

Actually this informs greatly on what Elves find beautiful or attractive. Character.
Tells or demonstrations of nobility or good character are intensely desirable to them (had a PC who'd gotten horrific facial disfigurements as a consequence of constantly volunteering on missions to save younger boys from arty fire. It was a big thing for him to go to the Courts, and find that actually he's one of the most popular people there, and is taking petitions from Elven Royalty even, because to them, he was a hearthrob knockout.)

They don't die naturally. However they can be slain, as that is a symbolic act of ending. And their nature can shift so much they cease to be the person they were before, which is identity death.

>How do they organize?
Informally, and fluidly, with the most powerful Elves crowned "Royalty", typically being Elves embodying large concepts like 'nature', 'progress', 'entropy', 'desire'.
Their population is somewhat capped as a consequence of the limited number of significant meanings and symbolisms out there, however. Hence the lack of reproduction meme.
Typically, they have female rulers, as consequence of survivorship bias in protégée's.
