Couple more termoids done, the combibolter wasn't supported enough so came out missing a part. I'll have to greenstuff it part of his arm back on. Other than that happy with it. If anyone wants the STLs of these terminators I can share them. Lazy copy of Azakh body lol, I just thought it's the perfect terminator body and pose, why not just have 5 of it.

Nta but
I think I’ve got some resin from anvil industry that might be out of production and never got an stl release.
Thing with anvil is that a lot of their stuff is modular and compatible for customization.
Can the ai ensure compatibility with the the bits or will manual editing in blender be required?
>>
>>98046132
I'd need good pictures from front, back, left, and right of all individual bits, and an stl of what the bits are supposed to be compatible with, in order to scale them correctly. Would probably need blender editing yep. Good pictures meaning against a clear background, in focus, well lit etc.
>>
>>98040126
Are these IO_Butovs? Do you have the unsupported files?
>>
>>98046146
I’ll have to look through my bits collection.
If not anvil probably something else will be found.
Just don’t expect it anytime soon as I’m the guy who’s pc is busted and I would prefer to upload just one pic that is a compilation of other pics.

It is the anon from last thread with the printer problems.

I am trying to level the build plate so I wiped it all down thoroughly and removed the resin tank but I can’t get the leveling screws out. You can see they got dirty with resin and I’ve used a lot of alcohol to remove most of it but I can’t stand screws that are positioned like this because they are so hard to grip.

Google says you can remove them with your fingers but I can’t grab them with my fat thumbs. Can anyone suggest how to loosen them or maybe get any remaining resin out from the cracks?
>>
>>98046166
>>98046187
This is tripoAi right?
I’ve done some digging and found one model and just a torso/legs of another that is discontinued. Probably won’t find the rest of the bits until your time expires.
With that said I’d like to know what the specific prompts are to make one model generated from a bunch of pictures of different images of different angles of the same model to be archived.
Some are still on their resin blocks and if this works wonders then I might blow a load on models I want archived. Especially ones that look highly likely to be hammered by Gwendolyn that are only available in stl form.
>>
>>98045725
Seconding this.
Also for generally most images to 3d model ai services what are the standard phrases in the prompts to ensure one model from multiple images is generated?
>>
>>98046237
try a small spanner ? pliers?
could try a dremel to get the resin out .

Anybody got a list of wargames Atlantic’s stl releases and which ones are no longer available?
I’m looking for the discontinued for sale stl files like the damned and the grognard cavalry. Those are the ones I can think of at the moment.

There are 4 versions.
Ballista (I have scans of this one, it's easy to get)
Baggage (very rare, no recasters)
Open mouth, not running (rare, no recasters)
Close mouth, not running (rare, no recasters)

Basically the 3 that are not the ballista one. There are a couple of fan made models with flimsy quills on the crests that look much much worse than the original model.

are you sure you need to undo those bottom screws? I don't have a mars 4 ultra but have looked up the leveling process and it looks like you just undo the big screw at the top, and undo the 4 allen bolt things (2 at the top of your pic) and then level.

>>98047309

>>98047419
>the damned
why did they discontinue those STLs anyway? I got a bunch of the plastic sprues in the recent KS for them, but was so confused as to why I was seeing preview videos for them from like 2 years before that. I presume there was some previous release of them that got pulled for some reason. surely the STLs can't have been nuked, there's nothing copyrightable on them?
>>
>>98047871
>why did they discontinue those STLs anyway?

Because they remade them in plastic.
With the Grognard Cavalry, you had to buy plastic horses anyway, because the STL file only gave you heads and riders, but not horses.
So when they made dedicated plastic horses for them, the need for the upgrade bits vanished.

As with the Damned, the digital version was pretty much an prototype of what followed years after in plastic.
Discontinued when the crowdfunding campaign started, and they did not even bother uploading all missing files, or name them properly, or fix mistakes people reported in the comments to the set. Not worth it to bother, espcially with the imminent release of the plastics, which are leagues better than those really early ones.

What you saw in the videos from two years ago, was prototypes for the plastic models which they sent to some youtubers to spark interest for the campaign, not the old digital ones.
>>
>>98047895
Even if the damned models were busted I would still like to have them for digital kitbash purposes.
I’m remembering anvil industry’s man portable heavy weapons (held like heavy from tf2’s minigun) and want to have those alongside the defensive turret heavy weapons that are in plastic.
As for the Les grognards cavalry.
I would like those for digital kitbashing and to hopefully modify station forge’s bike stls to fit with the damned rough riders to have bikes instead of horses if possible.
The success all depends on whether the damned rough riders will fit on the regular wga horses.
And if I can make pic related edited to work but I am not hopeful in my blender skills.

How long does stationforge take before releasing his stuff publicly after the tribes announcement?
>>
>>98047219

NTA but in regards to 3d scanners...
My cousin has a PLA printer and told me he was considering getting one but the really premium ones that give crisp and reliably detailed scans are thousands of dollars(USD).

Unless you buy one yourself it's gonna be really hard to find somebody with the expertise and hardware to meet your standards. Not being mean, it's just something you need to get lucky with in me experience. You're better off just crossing your fingers or being dilligent in your search on the Gram or cults3d even.

I hope you find your kroot dino or w/e those were cool in DoW
>>
>>98052554
I’m not the kroot requesting anon.
Admittedly the biggest want I have for are remakes of the logh ships.
There is one guy who made a lot but they’re a bit pricey and hopefully a buy group got them somewhere on the gram.
Not sure where to look and the Triglav ship probably wasn’t covered by the guy.

Anyways when I get my pc back and running I’m gonna archive files and make a burner account and try tripoAi unless someone recommends me something better.
My biggest concern is that cancelling a subscription for it is easy along with renewing it when the itch comes back.
If it is worth having a subscription.

Update:
I tried the levelling test with a piece of paper and while the left appeared to be a tiny bit higher than the right, I could not be certain if my mind was playing tricks on me or now. I was still waiting for an Alan wrench of the right size to come in the mail too. Settings were also changed, pic rel. I asked chatGPT for help.

First I printed the Ameralabs town right on the center of my plate. It came out fine so I tried the wood elf body because it was presupported by a professional studio.

Both came out perfect so I got the 32mm base and the plaguebearer arm, but also another plaguebearer arm holding a sword. The base was presupported and the two arms were autosupported by lychee with a couple more supports added by me.

The sword arm (marked by the white text) failed to print and pancaked on the bottom of the vat. In my picture you can see where it stuck to the bottom.

Finally my new tools arrived so I detached the plate, wiped it all with more alcohol to get rid of any resin residue and I reattached it. I tightened the screws until the they stopped turning easily and I tried the paper test again. They looked about the same albeit both slightly higher off the plate by just the smallest noticeable amount.

The good news is that nothing expensive or internal seems to be broken, and I'm currently printing the same base and two arms. Hopefully it works. If not, then I guess the left side of my plate is No-Man's-Land

I appreciate all the anons who have helped me so far

Update about cancelling tripostudio subscription. It was actually easy, no dodgy customer service prolonging cancellation or hidden charges etc. I'll probably use them again in future if I need to.
>>
>>98057193
good stuff anon, sounds like progress is being made. kudos for persevering as I know a lot of this has been brand new to you.
The sword arm in your slicer screenshot has absolutely no cross-bracing on the supports, whereas the other arm does. As long as your bed is truly level, that would be my next guess. You could also try putting the other arm in place of the sword arm and printing, since you now know that arm prints successfully on the other side of your plate.
Side note: 2.8s exposure time seems awful high for siraya fast. If you're happy with it that's fine though. If you start to notice details look puffy and blown out on your minis, it will probably be that though, so you might then want to spend time seeing if you can bring that exposure time down.

>>98056630
Difficult to tell from this angle, can't really see the cones. If the cup is as far as it will go though, yeah probably. You may hit the same point that I did, where one layer time results in perfect dimensional accuracy but failed cones, and adding 0.05s to the layer time results in successful cones, but makes the sword/cup stop being dimensionally accurate. In that case it comes down to personal preference. I went with the "imperfect dimensional accuracy, but fully successful cones" option, since most of the minis I print have ball and socket joints or flat joints so I don't really care about perfect DA - but I *do* care about how many failures I get per print, so that won in my mind.

Anyone who's used tripo premium, how much better is the premium model at interpreting images and making an accurate STL? This is the first time I've used it, the free version has done well here but a couple of details are off, like hair being modeled over the back of the helmet, and the wraps on the axe being a bit sloppy.

(For context, these are from a KS where payments were taken weeks ago, the creator released renders for every STL and said the files were ready to send out, and then went radio silent. Won't reply to anyone's questions, or to direct requests for an update from KS themselves, hasn't even logged in since the day the project funded. Turns out he's been working on a different account all this time, on another KS that made a lot more money than this one, sculpting files and test printing and releasing them to backers. As a rule I'm not into genning paid files from indie creators, but since this guy's already had my money and the payment's been processed, I did get curious as to what someone's options would be if he never releases them)

Jumping into this AI making STL discussion: Has anyone tried to let it create a whole sprue, instead of the assembled models? With a sprue (not necessarily GW, i was actually thinking about Northstar Stargrave), front and back pictures are often easily available.
>>
>>98057828
Yeah Varus, when I was messing with tripo last night I thought his fairly simple models would make a good test to see how accurate it could be when given something easy.
Re the KS, I'm trying to be charitable and assume he's just taken on too much at once. His first KS took time to release too, but at least in that one he was in regular communication about delays and next steps, whereas this one it's been nothing for weeks.
I actually pledged for that first KS as an add-on to this second KS, so those files are definitely good to release, but he still hasn't done after weeks now unfortunately.

>>98057833
Thanks, sorry that's my fault, I should have said there is only an image of the front of each file. With premium I noticed there are more models (as in AI learning models) to choose from, and I assume they're better than the free one. So I'm interested in whether the paid models are better at interpreting or even guessing details, for example:
>Top image, axe handle wraps: on the 2D image they look like the kind of wraps we all know from minis' weapon handles, but on the 3D model they don't take that shape
>Top image, hair at the back of the helmet: you can barely see it but he has hair sprouting out of where his helmet rim should be covering it
>Bottom image, elbows: again you can't see it but this guy has bare arms in the 2D image, and in the 3D model the fronts of his arms look like bare arms, but the backs just have three horizontal creases, more like fabric
Just wondering if the app can guess those sorts of details better if you pay for one of the premium models. Otherwise the free model has done a very good job of guessing the backs of these minis (obviously I don't know what they look like either lol, but they at least look plausible)
>>
>>98057848
yeah unfortunately it was a lot worse, I assume because it hasn't really been trained on images of sprues.

Wow I didn’t even know that, thank you, this is very new for me.
So is there always going to be a kind of push and pull with dimensional accuracy; Or is it only on this specific test print?
Attached is a better photo, I failed only one cone. Going to dial in the temp in my print room later and get a better print window. Hope to calibrate perfectly (or near enough) and move to printing a Champion.
>>
>>98058108
that looks like a pretty solid test if you ask me :)
I wouldn't say there's *always* going to be that push and pull, but generally with the types of resin suitable for miniature printing (flexible, somewhat shatter resistant etc) there is definitely a slight loss of dimensional accuracy due to their properties. However, we're talking fractions of a mm, so I wouldn't sweat it for mini printing. The most high-detail resin I've ever used was brittle af and I'd never ever print minis in it again, even if it means a 0.5% loss of detail in the smallest areas of the mini.

(The maker's instructions for that cones of calibration test print includes a flow chart where you can reach this "dimensional accuracy or successful print" tradeoff, which is how I learned about it in the first place)

update
I thought I leveled the plate and had some successful prints on the middle parts of the plate.

Pic rel was my last print. The back row completely pancaked and the front row printed perfectly. like a clean cut down the center

I know my plate is probably not leveled but I thought I levelled it fine. It's odd to me that the entire back row is not making enough contact. Do I need to try levelling it again?? I tightened the screws diagonally (front right, back left, etc) and did the paper thing.
>>
>>98061110

Use lychee and generate rafts for your supports, when I tried disabling rafts to save resin I got pancakes. Worth a shot.

>>
>>98061184
I am using lychee. I took another look at my plate and the rear was slightly higher than the front. I leveled it again and it seems to be better. I really think my problem was my plate being off.

when removing prints off my plate I use a hammer and my scraping tool like a chisel cause it doesn't scratch the plate but I guess the repeated force gradually loosened the screws.

I will have a look on lychee and see how to add rafts then give it a try. First I'm gonna print an Ameralabs town on each corner to test the levelness. thanks

try to hold all sides of the plate firm while you tighten the screws. It's easier said than done - in practice when I used to have to do this I would have to contort my hand to make sure I'm getting even pressure on all corners of the plate.

>>98061362
Could depend on a few things. Where in the build plate was this one, in relation to the others? What resin are you using? What resin settings are you using. Those are the big 3 for something like this imo.

Something like this, so yeah, i suppose it could have an impact. I did switch resin recently, but i've dialed it in and it's been performing way better than my old standard. Might have to relevel my plate, been a while since i did that.

>>
>>98061433
yeah give your plate a relevel, check fep tension too if that's old. If it's the one horse that's a right angle to the other two then it's on the section of the fep with the most tension (short edge, close to the edge) so that could have something to do with it. Depending on your new resin it could have an impact, especially if it's a super flexible one like wargamer or TGM7, but even still slightly so with others like tough or ABS like resins..

Don't do that, it will unlevel the plate over time. Use a sharp kitchen knife. I know it sounds weird but it works really well.

Well I learned the hard way. I printed the 4 test towns and they came out perfect. I gasped when I check cause I was so relieved, but either because of my settings or the model, it was really hard to take off the plate.

I tried to scrap it off with a twisting motion but to no avail. I hit it with a hammer and the plate instantly skewed from the force cause I didn't tighten all the screws completely for the sake of leveling.

I leveled it again just now, tightened it a bit more and I'm trying the same town prints.

How can I remove these small stubborn prints without much force? Do I leave them alone and let them harden a bit? I am afraid to scratch my plate

>kitchen knife
really?? I detach my plate then put it down on an old metal baking dish and do the scraping there. How exactly do I use a sharp knife without cutting myself or the plate?

what i do is remove all the model parts from supports, then dunk the whole build plate in IPA then run under warm water , then just carefully slide the blade under one edge of the raft. After that the whole raft and support structure usually comes off easily . You could also try reducing the initial layer exposure time, you know the first 5 or so layers ? You might be mega baking them to the plate when they don't need that much exposure.

>I need to find a way to get them off
Personally I would spend some time tweaking your bottom layer settings, now that you've solved the print fail issue. I got my bottom layer exposure time to such a point that prints would reliably stick to the build plate, *but* also pop right off with the slightest bit of pressure under the raft.

Additionally, I use a raft that has a beveled rim, kind of like:

[printed mini here]
\__________/ <-raft
[build plate here]

I find that this is the easiest style of raft to get my scraper under and lever it upward until the suction to the build plate is broken and it pops off.
I also use a plastic razor fwiw, which completely avoids the potential for scratching the build plate with the manufacturer's metal scraper, and the rafts still pop off super easy.

If you have the time I suggest looking into anvil industry’s multi shell thing with their models.
Basically some details on digital models can be “separated” as “loose” pieces and deleted off the model in blender before printing.
So say a head with sunglasses can be deleted and there will still be a face with eyes under it.
I imagine that it is a lot of work but I think it is something worth looking into.
I also think you have a good understanding of the oldhammer aesthetic.

Pretty sure this happened at least once. Especially when the russians started their special operation there was a lot of "discussions" between russians and ukrainians, and people ratted themselves out quite often. The notorious "only scans" guy for example was from ukraine, and some scanners from russia have been particularly mad about him reselling their scans.

I know, this is resin territory, but still i have a fdm-related question:

If i want to print something, that is impossible to put flat onto the print bed, how would be the right angle to support it? 30-45°? Or does FDM work completely different?
I've been printing terrain pieces just fine, but i would like to print something "superheavy" that i would not attempt to do with my Mars due to its size.
What would be the best approach for that?

I want to FDM print some terrain. I'm torn between matte PLA and regular basic PLA.

I think I might be able to get away with not painting the terrain if I use matte PLA since it comes in the colors I need and should hide layer lines better than basic PLA.
However, matte PLA is more prone to clogging. I've not had any outright clogs with matte pla, but I have had little blockages that led to a rough surface finish in some places. But that was with a 0.4mm nozzle, and I want to print with a 0.2mm nozzle for detail.

If I get a clog I'll end up needing to sand and paint the thing anyways, and at that point basic PLA is the better material.

Any advice?

Nobody really answered your question... no, you don't need to angle FDM prints (though there are some edge cases where you might want to; minmaxing part strength comes to mind). Generally, lay the parts flat as you can (the orientations in your pic are probably how you want to print). You're going to want to use tree supports for your support structure (they're easiest to remove).

Alright I hope one of you lads have the forumware models to archive as stls.
My wallet is gonna hurt buying up third party that is actually decent to archive as stls.
I’ll have to get out the measurement tape to check size numbers on bits and resize archived models.
Does anyone here have experience to say how bad or good blender for resizing stls to exact measurements is?

if ur using resin. I recommend keeping your layer lines bigger then with miniatures. Im not 100% sure, but im 99% sure that smaller layer lines increase risk of failure with bigger parts (now that I type this out this seems bizarrely obvious). I've been getting way less warping, misprints, and lines with bigger layers. And the difference isnt really obvious. Also it helps keep down printing time a shit ton which is good.

I used to have a Creality ender 3 printer 5 or 6 years ago, but it was always fucking up, and I was too retarded to figure out how to level it. It was always out of level and eventually I gave up and threw it in the dump.
Anyways, I saw on YouTube that a lot of new printers are basically plug and play and have auto leveling, ie. retard proof, so I think it's time I give it another try.

What FDM printers do you think I should check out, to be used exclusively for printing terrain, between $300-500??

I try to research it myself but every single article or YouTube video on 3d printers are all sponsored ads, so I just don't know who to trust

>>
>>98087493
Yeah, listen to the clanker, buy from the patent trolls that are gonna lock up your machine.

>>98087427
I had some hellish experience with my first FDM printer, so I know how hard it can be. But afterwards i got a Neptune 4 and later on a kobra 3 combo, and even those budget models were worlds better.

Since the Kobra 4 is about to come out and can be bought for 380, or the 3 combo will become cheaper, and they come with the ams, which the bambu does not at that price point.

AMS is real great, even if you do not often print multi color. You can have special material for supports that is water solluble, have a 2nd roll as a backup one rolls out or just use it to dry the filament, which makes a huge difference in quality and reliability.
>>
>>98087427
Look into the Centauri Carbon/Carbon 2 (practically the same machine; Carbon 2 mainly just comes with multi material native). Just Werks out of the box; I've only had to run the leveling once (when I set it up).
>>
>>98087917
I recently got one and I'm pretty happy with it. I just need to find a new place for it, since letting it print next to my resin printer messed up the resin layers.

one time I hard hardened pieces of resin in my vat. My printer sits under a window and somtimes the sun hits it from an odd angle and I guess manages to pierce the cover over a really long time. I also left it completely untouched for a month over winter. It was really viscous and chunky and needed lots of stirring when I got back. Cold will fuck up resin more than heat

Just mix it occasionally and watch the temperature of your home.
>>
Im new to all of this, sometimes ill open up an stl and bambu/orca will say there are non manifold edges and says it can repair. Sometimes it could an hour plus to repair it, I looked it up and tried blender but every guide will say press ctrl a to select all then press m for merge by distance, when I do that I dont see any difference and when I export it out the slicer still sees the non manifold edges. Is there a faster way to repair this or am I just stupid?
>>
Relatively new to printing, have been able to print 8mm scale terrain and pieces well on an Elegoo Saturn 4 Ultra 16k with their 2.0 standard grey resin. Have calibrated on multiple occasions and with my settings at a .050 layer size, generally get good exposures between 1.9 and 2.3 seconds per layer. No problems with any pre-supported files so far.

Today I was noticing that my details have been less than what I think the machine is capable of and have been trying to tweak it. Shooting for a .020 layer size, running a calibration now to hone in on the correct exposures.

I ran a test print earlier and had two models come out well manually supported, and two that failed pretty quickly. I'm pretty confident that the issue on that end was with the supports that I tried on two of the models. I have increased the penetration of the tip and added a rounded contact and am going to try this again. Used the print angle calculator and think I have it optimized for this screen (about 55 degrees from flat plane).

Feel like it's been hard to find reliable and useful information about how to actually design manual supports -- anyone have any recommendations of where to start?
>>
>>98101090
What I've found works fix really fucked up meshes in blender is:
First (if it's really big file) from object mode select the part, go to pic related on the right , +modifier, generate, decimate to around 300,000 faces, apply from drop down.
Then same again but +modifier, generate, remesh, Voxel, adjust value lower till it's detailed enough, apply.
Then export the stl.
>>
>>98102330
the pic, sorry
>>
>>98101448
If you like manually tinkering and tweaking then keep doing that. Or you could try lychee database settings for your printer and resin and lychee auto supports. I'd bet you 5 dolla that it will work.
>>
>>98102333
>>98102330
Also sometimes a simpler fix is import the stl into Meshmixer, click edit, make solid. Settings in picrel. Then click update, wait for it to finish, click accept. Then click analysis, Inspector, auto-repair all. Then export the stl .
>>
>>98101090
Also you're not stupid. Except for the case of closing a visible hole manually, no amount of merging or joining in edit mode applied to the whole part has worked for me either.
>>
>>98101090
there is an extension for blender called 3d print toolbox (or something like that). It has a 'detect issues' function which will find the non-manifold edges. From there, you can either press 'fix' and see if it can repair them itself, or if it has trouble, then you can tab into edit mode, click the 'non-manifold' button, and it will highlight the edges for you to fix manually

the meshmixer fix is also a good option in my experience. In the inspection part I like to select "smooth" or whatever the option is that's not "flat". "flat" will just close the holes with a flat face, whereas smooth does a bit of computing to try and follow the shape of the surface when repairing the holes. Looks much better to me.
>>
>>98096161
get yourself a silicone spatula and stir that resin up. I stir it mildly before every print. If you leave it a week or longer the gubbins in the resin start to separate and you have like oily shit at the top and pigment at the bottom. That will result in a bad time if you try to print straight away. It will need a very very good stir - bear in mind most resins say shake vigorously for 2-5 minutes before using, and then think how much force that must put them under; that's the amount of stirring you'd have to do. I've done it before but it was like 5+ minutes of constant stirring and 'folding' the resin back in on itself like dough. Might be easier to pour it back in the bottle and shake.

this looks like something out of a 3rd edition book, good shit
