So is this game actually playable?
I took a glance at the rules and it's a confusing mess.
>>
>>98079276
The game is pretty fun. Parsing through the word salad rules is not.
>>
>>98079276
>So is this game actually playable?
Yes, the game is - mechanically - in a very good state. Theres very few unusable units, faction balance is just about the best its ever been in three editions, and the game flows fine.

Not flawless, theres a risk of "deterministic games" in some matchups due to how line works (you might know that you mathematically cant win early on) and the shorter game duration makes speed super important. Also a lot of units had options reduced from previous editions.
>>

>>
>>98079597
Its already "understandable". Its not pretty or elegant, but you can parse it just fine.

There are "some" ambiguities, but thats just rules for you.
>>
>>98079606
You but from what I read it seems like it would be easy to cut out atleast half the gibberish in the rules and have them say the exact same thing much clearer.

Titanicus has been played. I lost 10-5 by secondary objectives, but the game was topsy turvy and very funny. My buddy tried out the Knight Asterius that I gave him a little while ago and I think I might have made a mistake because holy shit it ripped right through me.

Especially since T-rex had to waste a turn bashing a warhound. It did some decent damage for 5+ weapon skill but I really should have just strolled past the dog and eaten some shield saves. Stripes would have all its weapons blown off and then be destroyed after it flumped a charge.
If you notice the reactor dice in the back there, contrary to my usual luck I rolled FIVE blank faces in a row at one point. My reactors were nice and cool this game.

Except for Stripes right there the knights would cause every casualty this game. Mine managed 2 warhound kills but the asterius took out Jim, Barnum Brown, and Blaster Master. That thing is fucking scary and next time I'll certainly either be stun locking it with concussive weapons or going for a critical kill.
I'll also try taking some more knights I was very pleased with the lancers.

The game lasted 4 turns and Blastermaster made a good show of itself the whole time right up until it was mobbed. Unfortunately my opponent had moved that forward warhound there to withing 24" of my board edge so I only got 5 points for my secondary objective, while my opponent got 10.
Great game. Lots of funny dice rolling instead of when one of us is getting screwed by consistently bad rolls but holy fuck that knight is scary.

Termie spam is fine but if you're playing against WAAC types who move react off objectives to stop you ever scoring vanguard then you will have a bad time.
>>
Sorry for dumb question but why are the suzerains so damn expensive?
>>
>>98080407
Models? Because theyre resin.
Pts? Because theyre basically terminators.

Theyre 2+ save Ws5 3A with an invulnerable save and 2w, and they have good weapons to boot. And unlike terminators you can stick them in a rhino.
>>
>>98080417
>Models? Because theyre resin.
Sorry should have specified models. Yeah but why? Isn't resin supposed to be cheap? I mean I can handle expensive, but they're REALLY expensive for just 5 models. I mean they cost the same as a tank
>>
>>98080421
>Yeah but why?
Because the resin models sold for HH are carry overs from forge world (or rather: ARE forge world, its just no longer a 2nd website), which has always been more expensive for various reasons (higher quality - real or perceived - more niche product and so on)

As far as I understand it? Resin is an on paper cheaper material to work with than plastic, same as metal, in that its easier to male molds and the like for it. Theres a reason recasters use resin. But on the macro scale of a company its more expensive, and the costs of development (paying a sculptor and so on) mean if youre selling a niche product you have to charge more for it.

A large part is also just "what they can get away with", resin models (forge world) has a "prestige" element to it which means the business reality is that they can charge more and therefore do. GW are exactly as greedy as they can be at any given time.

Is that even WAAC ? (not rhetorical) what else are you supposed to do?
Further, how do you even respond to this if you're a vanguard heavy army? Isn't reposition react available to all line units?
>>
>>98080462
>Is that even WAAC ?
NTA but I dont think so. It is however a bit lame.
Its like move reacting back into a rhino, not waac, thats what youre meant to do, but its a bit dickish because its basically "denying the cool things from happening".

Mind you: I also think vanguard is not like and should not be treated like line. You are not supposed to use it as some alternative to scoring normally, where having your vanguard means you dont need anything else. That terminator making you move react already did his job (or part of it) by doing that, because thats one less reaction elsewhere.

I'm thinking about painting up a some Blood Angels just for fun, to take a break from painting other things. That's pretty reasonable. I guess my definition of terminator "spam" may be different because i'm still gonna have line units and whatnot. It's just a super infantry heavy army list with some supportive artillery armor (when i bump the army up to 3000 points) keeping in line with DG ethos.
Here's (roughly) my 1500 point list for a game i'm gonna play with my buddy who's doing IH, open to feedback on this i'm a total newfag to the hobby.
The idea is the Centurion squad is going with my legion champion and the cata retinue is gonna run with my praetor

>>
>>98080578
it's like half my point list if you count the command guys also in termie armor, I guess spam would constitute the vast bulk of your list?
>>
>>98079315
>Also, a lot of units had options reduced from previous editions
This is my biggest gripe with this edition, i can stand the lost certain flavour like RoW whacky rules since some were pretty retarded. But stuff like most infantry being stuck with 2 weapons "slots" might be one of the most retarded shits, since Warders suck dick this edition i want to use them but it fucking sucks that they lost their bolters.
>>
>>98079315
>>So is this game actually playable?
>Yes, the game is - mechanically - in a very good state.

Lolwhut ... it's utterly unplayable when compared to previous edition or even just the spirit of the original game.
>>
>>98080570
If you want more terminators, you can easily drop the centurion command squad and replace it by a 5 man cata squad with 1 heavy flamer and power mauls/axes for 155 points
>>
>>98080608
Spam would be Many Terminators. What you have is just a poor investment
>>
>>98079621

How does something like this look?

Praetor [167 Point(s)]: - headsmans axe, shotgun

Centurion [115 Point(s)] - headsmans axe, combi grav, paragon of battle
Librarian With Jump Pack [145 Point(s)]: - force axe, telekinesis

Tactical Squad [120 Point(s)]: -Melta bombs on sarge, vox x3 (one prime logistical benefit)

Rhino with havoc launcher and dozer blaxe x2

Kratos Assault Tank [405 Point(s)] - melta blast gun, lascannons, decurion, dozer blade, missile

Rapier Battery [130 Point(s)]: 2x Rapier Crew [65 Point(s)] x2

Rapier Battery [40 Point(s)]: Rapier Crew [40 Point(s)] x2

Destroyer Assault Squad [305 Point(s)]: thunder hammer on sarge, 2x missile launchers, double volkites x2

Terror Squad [265 Point(s)]: thunder hammer on sarge, 7 chainglaives, flamer, rotor cannon, prime sgt

Night Raptor Squad [230 Point(s)]: 5x thunder hammers, 1 flamer

Night Raptor Squad [200 Point(s)]: 5x twin claws

Im a bit low on AT so I gave basically everyone that could take it a melta bomb which mightbe a mistake. Could maybe cut some corners somewhere (likely swap the librarian for a regular jump centurion or MoD) and fit a dreadnought (double plasma) in for some more meaty shooting too.
>>
>>98080805
I think that seems like a good direction.
>>
>>98080570
If youre going to "spam" terminators (and arent just using what you have). Consider using lots of your legion specials.

Grave wardens are super good for a normal terminator unit, their grenade launchers are really potent shooting and they have 3A with their power fists.

Deathshroud are very durable, and while theyre a bit pillow fisted into other terminators theyre great for carving up normal marines or veterans.

Primus Demi-Company gives you a WS6 3+/5++ legatine axe/agyrum shield/disintegrator pistol jump asshole Paragon of Battle for what 80 points?

and you can do that indefinitely, sure, you're not *likely* to spend 800 points on a whole squad of them in normal times, but it's a nasty surprise, cheaper than a Champion by 25 points (faster with better Ld, too), and it's all perfectly legal

think of them as flying Suzerains you're paying a high premium for to stop you spamming them as is your birthright

I' wish to clarify that I'm not saying fluff wise word bearers did not use terminators in their tactics.
I am saying, crunchwise, that Word Bearers have no legion specific terminators of either the Tartaros, Cataphractii or even Indomitus patterns, and are thus forced to rely on Saturnines (which are NOT terminators of the "regular" kind), or rely on generic elite terminators such as Praetorian Termie Command squads.

I thought I was saving time...but here we are.
>>
Word Bearers should get Anointed termies in Tartaros
>>
>>98081955
Should have said WB have nothing but regular terminators then.
Not having legion specific terminators no longer is a problem in 3.0 though, regular terminator command squad are as good if not better than the majority of legion specific terminators.

I expected at least ONE to either send me the wrong thing, or something completely unusable or even to just take the money and run. So far everythings been perfect and on the up and up. From both china AND the eastern bloc.

Like, actually new models or some shit? Maybe a new journal will be announced, Citadel's priorities with marines remains a mystery but they're probably at the point for non-Custodes to make up random shit since there isn't too much to port to plastic for them. Unless they start a new army.

In general? Between 40k getting a new edition and other odd things like Ligma maybe due for something if they're still doing the three-year cycle shit, 30k isn't exactly the center of attention right now.

Is it looked down upon to squeeze as many legion-specific units into a list as possible?
>>
>>98083814
If I can reliably convert them, I plan on shoving the max amount of Gal Vorbak into my list, so I don’t think so.
>>
>>98082496
>Same can be said about somebody running a 2+ spam list
Yup. And the people who bring nothing but long range tools. Or have everyone in a big metal box or any other number of things you can do.

Its why I dont think theres anything particularly "wrong" with it, even if its one of those things where ideally you dont do it so you have a list that is better at interacting (and being interacted with) and you end up with a better game where cool things happen.
>>
>>98083814
Depends on the units in question, and the amount of variety. Having a DG army with all their flavours of stinky terminators is cool, but an army of nothing but AL exodus' Exodii? Exoduses? Exodussy? is not.
>>
>>98083814
In terms of variety? No.
In terms of "look ma' 30 firedrakes!"? Kinda.

In general bringing legion specific units is good, they tend to be some of the more extreme and interesting units out there. But just spamming some super-elite is boring and makes for boring games.

I want to field a squad each of Phoenix terminators (optional), palatine blades, sun killers, and kakophoni. My main concern is I don’t know if it would make sense from a narrative standpoint to have them all deployed at once

Im not a big EC head so I cant tell you much (I know the phoenix termies fell out of favor as the heresy went on, but thats about it) but mechanically absolutely nothing wrong with all that.

>>
>>98084366
Anon, if its offered in plastic, get it in plastic, you are going to save yourself so much headache.
That goes for almost anything that was in resin and now in plastic, only exception to this rule are knights and titans.
>>
>>98086237
Im putting the finishing touches on a plastic leviathan dread right now and I can say 100 percent id rather it was the resin version. I also have a resin NL one, and it looks SO MUCH easier to build...
>>
>>98086288
why? because the resin is less parts?
>>98086237
Agreed, I avoid resin vehicles like the plague, I've heard too many horror stories. I'm fine with resin for infantry tho.
>>
>>98086629
The resin version feels like it will be solid like a brick, especially if I pin each piece like I usually do with resin. The plastic one though feels like I could crush the damned thing if I squeezed it too hard, not to mention each section having a million fucking pieces for no reason other than to fill out the sprue and just make it over complicated. And sure, some resin vehicles can bea nightmare, but most of them are solid as fuck and no harder to build than any of the plastic ones. The tanks are all god tier.
>>
>>98086288
Looks can be deceiving. Just because resin models often have fewer parts doesn't mean they are easier to assemble. You really think re-sculpting details lost to resin casting failures and mould slips with greenstuff is more easy than having a few more parts to glue together?
>>
>>98083698
recasters are like Alpha legion, cut off one head and it appears again
>>
>>98086656
Ive worked with resin for like 20+ years now, yes, way easier. Pinning parts and filling gaps is nothing once youre used to it.
>>
>>98086655
Yes GW seems to over complicate their newer kits with so many bits and parts split into so many pieces, very annoying.
>>
>>98086011
I've ordered from them a couple of times and everything was good quality, though if the kit you're ordering is older then it usually has a bit of flash on it.
>>
>>98086655
Are you seriously judging models' durability purely on weight? Resin models often shatter like when dropped, they are well known to be very brittle. Plastic models bounce, only losing a bit or two when too little glue was used to secure it in place.

>>98086667
>once youre used to it
It being your preference because you have more experience with assembling resin models compared to plastic models does not mean it is easier. Only that it feels easier for you, even though it is inherently and objectively a more complicated process. Because there's more to assembling resin than just pinning parts and filing gaps. If you sincerely believe that's all it takes I dread to know what your resin models look like...
>>
Sup lads.
How is legions imperialis?
Is it fun and how does it compare to epic Armageddon rules wise?
>>
>>98086739
Good resin models are definitely easier to assemble than plastic ones, because you have less gaps and pieces. The problem is that you have to rely on the casting quality, which GW and FW are notoriously bad at at worst and mediocre at best. I recently built some mierce models monsters and it was so much quicker because there is fuck all cleanup and filling to do. Though once you have to fill and reapair or you want to convert stuff, you are fucked though. Also rope or antenna like thin parts are better on a plastic model, because you need less area for the glue to hold them and the plastic model will be generally more durable. That said I'd take plastic over resin any day, because I'd know what I'd get and for the customizability.
>>
>>98087130
When having to deal with resin models I pre-emptively replace weapon handles, antennas and the like with metal rods. That shit WILL snap at the first opportunity.
