I've not looked at this game in a decade. the missus started rewatching The Walking Dead during our evening couples videogame time and I thought about running a zombie game for the family or her and a couple of friends.

my questions are this.
1.) has it had any updates since I looked at it last? especially any that dont suck?
2.) is there now a better game for running a zombie game with medium-lite or lite rule complexity
3.) anyone ever play it? got any tales?
4.) I feel like non-shambler and possibly magical zombies, anyone used them before in this game?
5.) HOW DOES EVERYONE FEEL ABOUT ZOMBIE APOCALYPSES?

Why dobt you try it out and make your own ooinion for once retard?

>2.) is there now a better game for running a zombie game with medium-lite or lite rule complexity
The Walking Dead Universe actually.
>>
>>98082098
cause an informed opinion from an experienced player is meaningful?

>>98082210
interesting...
does it handle special infected or wierd circumstance infected?

I like the idea of zombies housing a hive of vulture bees
or making the lethal hit being "destroy the heart" and not the brain
>>
>>98082306
No it doesn't have special infected and really found its tables for infected combat annoying how you can just insta die.
>>
>>98082342
>insta-die
I will admit I want to avoid that....

Aka "spoonfeed me" , ok retard.

There’s AFMBE Revised
There’s a Resident Evil 1-6 + spin offs adaption called RE:Genesis

Really AFMBE is just Unisystems sourcebooks with zombie dressing. And the failure of Eden Studios left a hole in the generic RPG market.
Savage Worlds ended up filling it.

>failure of Eden Studios
I've not actively lurked /tg/ and related content in a long time, sounds like tasty drama.

Does Savage World's have an alternative in the zombie apocalypse niche?
If so, how does it play?

Trying to NOT run D&D here...
Need a simple rules system

>>98082470
Ladies and gentlemen, I think the educational systems have failed on this one...

>Does SW have zombie apocalypse?
Not as a stand alone thing, no. Doesn't really fit the kind of vibe SW has with your characters being powerful. Plenty of stuff has or can have zombies dropped into it, but they are just mooks to get chain gunned, dynamited, and ripped apart. It is not a good system for average joes dealing with a horde.
Dead Markets is pretty solid. It's all about living in the zombie apocalypse. Your characters take odd jobs to make cash in order to deal with a financial responsibility of some sort (sick wife needs constant medical treatment, you gotta pay your loans to the mob, etc) for a reason to go into zombie territory for cash and haggling over your fare for doing with the task giver is a group effort. Mechanically, it's just zombies, but mechanically, you are are basic bitch humans with zero special gear or training, so it evens out.

The End of the World RPG is pretty fun for shorter campaigns too.
>>
>>98082069
1) No, last publication was about a decade ago
2) there's lighter, but not better
3) yes, played tons. It's good.
4) they work fine, and you can crib from Witchcraft for more magic
5) I like em fine

I ran exactly one game of this with the college student starter campaign. Bait and switched my players by saying it was a silly one shot about being in college without telling them the system. The two guys who got to the dorm room for the first zombie reveal took it in stride, but the other three players were pissed and walked. It was a shame because the girl playing the "professional student" archetype was actually roleplaying it very well. She just hated zombies.
>>
>>98082069
It's not that good. It has good ideas and One of the Living is a really good book for zombie games in general, but the actual system is underwhelming. Everything is feast or famine. With no or one rank in a skill you'll fail 90% of the time, with 2+ ranks you'll endlessly succeed. Attacks either deal next to no damage or instagib. Advancement is basically a convoluted pointbuy.

It all feels like GURPS Lite, and while it's better than GURPS, it's still not a good system.
>>
>>98083678
Thankfully I won't have that problem.

Still sucks you had a walkout. I bet you had something fun planned.

>>98083640
Sounds like I'm going with AFMBE still, thanks for the insight tho

>>98083671
1.) Cool my archival copy is still valid
2.) Good to know, any close runner ups?
3.) As stirling a recommendation as I could hope for
4.) Is witchcraft part of AFMBE or just in the same system? I may have to go looking to find it.
5.) They aren't stale for me either. Though I like them a little bit goofy (Z-Nation) over too serious (Walking Dead) personally...

All Flesh Must Be Eaten is dogshit
Dead Reign is what Eden wishes they had made instead of the Witchcraft abomination AFMBE
>>
>>98084870
Does this game support special infected and z-nation style goofy shit?

Are the rules relatively simple?
I want casual shit to run for my family.
Like, I might include my mom in the player pool...

And as a measure of the game, what is dead reign BAD at?
>>
>>98084068
I could see an argument for using <your favourite generic system>, something micro-light like Risus, something very narrative like 10 Candles. Also Red Markets does a very specific economic horror thing. You'd know if you wanted it, and I respect it actually doing something different to AFMBE.
Witchcraft is a different Unisystem game, cross compatible, free on DTRPG.
>>98085046
The secret to good casual AFMBE is an experienced ZM and a good cheat-sheet on the table. You know, how to roll, what do do for 1 or 10s, success level chart, maybe the hit locations.
>>
>>98085646
>a good cheat-sheet
As a DM I'll say this is a must for most games...

>free on DTRPG
I'll give it a look

>Does Savage World's have an alternative in the zombie apocalypse niche?
There is a campaign type thing for zombies in sw, not sure if it's been updated to the newest edition. It's very easy to tweak the rules to make the game a lot more lethal, if that's what you want. The math is very transparent so it's easy to fiddle with.
>>
>>98083640
You mean Red Markets, not Dead Markets.
>>
>>98082069
so far my best option is having my players "spawn in" via unspecified isekai event in a freezer in Lebanon Kansas.

why Lebanon?
because its tiny and unfamilliar to all possible players. It'll force them to move soon, and no meta-game for anything.

small communities in the north kansas area means you really cant "fort up" for very long. even the nearby larger cities like Hastings and Smith are STILL small.

by the time the party has gone thru a few sessions I can adapt to them and bullshit the rest.

I'm thinking semi-mystical zombies that need a heart-shot to kill (can function headless) just so we can get past the "headshot" metagame.
you have to die before you turn, but now I've got plotholes.
