ITT: real life maps that would make good campaign settings
>>
Madagascar. It has mountain ranges, it has grassy plains, it has rocky grounds, it has jungles and coastline with variations of each. Also smaller islands off the big one.
It feels a bit underused template for RPG settings really. It was a pirate haven towards the end of golden age of piracy and a hotbed for conflicts between local groups and outside interlopers.

Also I heard they really like to "move it move it."

Have you met the Tsalal yet?
Delightful chaps, remarkable rocketry for primitives.
Just don't ask what's in the stew; it could be somebody you know.
>>
>>98082603
How would a real life map inherently make a "good campaign setting"?
>>
>>98082603
What about maps of Earth with things like inverted continents and oceans, or maps of a terraformed Mars or Venus, etc.?

Green Antarctica was a fucking drug trip

I read it on sleep deprivation.
Unironically, trying to stay awake for a week hits harder than swiss crystal.

I was too lazy to make My own map for the game world so I decided to just copy paste Earth's geography. My current campaign is taking place in not!England
>>
>>98083466
You could have at least like, flipped it on it's head, changed the positions of the islands, or used one of the well outdated wildly inaccurate maps to make it look funky.

Hell, flip and crop it right and it becomes nigh unrecognizeable.

Nah, didn't want to.

I mean, someone destroyng the british empire will always have some good qualities to me
>>

Allegedly Attack on Titan mostly takes place on Madagascar, with the Earth's continents mirrored vertically (northern continents are now south, southern continents are now north). This is why the fauna is more deciduous than tropical.
>>
>>98086333
Paradis is shaped like Madagascar but it isn't supposed to be literally Madagascar. And flipping the nap vertically wouldn't change how far from the tropics Madagascar is.
>>
>>98084702
Then you shoulda gone lazier and just kept the map as England, and set the game in England, and just arbitrarily fantasticated it on the fly.

You could easily pass much of Mesozoic Europe off as a fantasy map, doubly so if you want something with a lot of high seas adventure.

>maps of a terraformed Mars or Venus
Those are awesome too. There's this guy who made some really detailed descriptions of the landscapes and environments of a terraformed Mars.

I would love to play a semi-hard sci-fi game set in the solar system after Mars and Venus were fully terraformed.

>real life maps that would make good campaign settings

There's a itch.io user called idraluna who specialized in doing that.

This is the antarctica in very high resolution, an made into hexcrawl maps. It's free, and about 2Gb of content. The biomes was generated by real climatic models.
https://idraluna-archives.itch.io/the-great-antarctic-hexcrawl

This is the whole Earth made into hexcrawl maps, 1.5Gb of content
https://idraluna-archives.itch.io/6-mile-hex-atlas-of-earth

And if you go to his blog (or hers, i don't know, being the nick 'idraluna'), you have tutorials to make hexcrawl fantasy maps using real cartographic data.

I add the map index of hexcrawl maps in the whole earth link. This is for the medium resolution ones, the 6 mile hexes. There's another one for the 3 mile hexes.
>>
>>98086901
oh that is a really good one. A pirate campaign on that map would be killer.

There's several dozens to download in the author website
