They're clearly merging the model range with Age of Sigmar - The Last World.
Nobody has figured this out but me.

Is this out of fear of kings of war making an Asian furry race to get furry money?
If I recall correctly when kow announced third Ed was underway gw announced square bases were coming back soon after.
And I think now gw is teasing prepainted terrain because some other company is doing so.
Gw may be a big boy of the industry but he is afraid of losing his big boy status. So he probably pays attention to what the lil bros are doing.

>I want GW to fuck the game over as hard and often as possible
Are you for real? You see the codex churn of 40k and AoS and you'd wish that on anyone let alone yourself?
No, we don't need more shitty fomo boxes for figures that cost about arm and a leg and are monopose bullshit that such to assemble.

Specialist games don't get updates as often as main pillars. Ask the Warcry or Killteam guys if you need to know moar.

We got a whole ass new army recently. That shows that GW is committed. But the focus is going to be on the big Armaggedon launch which will salesmog all of GW's other projects.

I'm sure there's some game mode or another you haven't tried, whether that's a linked campaign, siege, or something else. Our hobby is a creative one, we shouldn't be acting like Funkopop collectors or binge-watchers.

being abandoned is a good thing. just let GW keep releasing new WHFB models (based) and let the grogs who actually operate the new world scene do all the rules writing and balancing (based).

GW rightly realized they didn't have control of the new world community pretty quickly so investing in rules and such is pointless when people only want to play under one of the community expansions that include all the squatted armies

New World is doing fine in its niche, and the new models are cool. The nightmare images of an entire room filled with graytide lanterns exists mostly in your head.

Holy COPE

Its true though. What sustains a game is model releases not rules shit.

According to the rumourmongers, old world sales intially blew their expectations out of the water, which is pretty well known by now.
However pretty quickly the sales for the old shit (basically everything pre 7th) started to dwindle, because zoomers aren't interested in them and middle aged players are only going to buy their nostalgia kits once.
Similarly, cathay sold gangbusters on their initial wave, but the second wave has struggled. If I had to guess this is because cathay's initial succes wasn't driven by the actual faction per se, but more by virtue of them being all new minis and the first new faction in almost 20 years. The shine has kind of worn off by the time the peasants and co rolled around, and it has to be said, they're also not nearly as attractive to WAACPiggies.
So tow is currently at a bit of crossroads, rereleasing the old models is very cheap, but it also has limited long term revenue. While creating all new minis is a much bigger investment with potentially higher rewards (cathay wave 1), but on the flip side if they underperform (cathay wave 2) it can really hurt. Keep in mind that the tow team is working with a VERY limited budget.
The obvious next step is bringing back some of the more popular legacy factions like VC and DE, but after that they're not entirely sure what to do. This content gap is because they were waiting for DE to become fully available once they were fully squatted from aos, after that they'll have to decide on a direction for the game.

a big problem for GW is opportunity cost more than losing money on kits. they don't really care about losing money on a kit, but their factory can only make so much. If a kit underperforms that's SO much worse than just an unpopular kit. It also took very limited production time from 40k releases that sell thousands of boxes. its more about opportunity cost than anything. that's why kislev was canceled despite all the concept work being done and probably the models too. even if it would sell well, do you want to spend a week of production time pumping out kislev models and then have 40k boxes sold out on the web store?

this isn't just WHFB, its all the specialist games
