You know those paints you see online that are so ridiculously dark that whatever they're painted with almost seems to disappear? Have any of you guys used them for model painting? How was it? Got pictures?
>>
Just look at the catalog if you want that.

I use the one you posted for my base rims, and while not "so ridiculously dark that whatever they're painted with almost seems to disappear", they still look noticeably darker than your usual black paint (which I used on the armor/shields).
>>
IIRC we had someone in a WIP thread who had used them to not brilliant effect a while back, as the übermattest nature of these paints means you liekly won't get the depth to the black that you're liekly hoping for with them.
Still, could be worth experimenting with,l I may pick up a bottle just for curiosity's sake some day. There's probably some good use for them.

Same. Super black, good for the base rims

What's the appeal of having super black rims? I just use whatever black I have,. it's already blacker than the base and model so it looks black.

You could use it to add depth by using it as the base coat to your black armor and highlighting it with normal black. It would make the other colors look brighter by comparison.

Genuine "blackest black" is completely pointless for miniatures because they're fragile enough that handling them will destroy the effect quickly, and varnishing them so you can handle them will destroy the effect instantly. The few that aren't that don't get anywhere close to the "weird reality filter" optical illusion effect.

You can use it as backdrop for diorama work where the scene is set in space, if you're careful with where your mounting rods go they functionally vanish when painted with the same thing, but they have to be enclosed or else the supermatte surface of the paint will pick up dust and trying to clean it will ruin the effect and make it look like shit(also you better be using museum-grade zero-reflection glazing for that enclosure, or glare and reflections will also ruin the effect).

It's a gimmick.

I barely even use normal black paint nowadays. I switched to pic related because of vince venturella, for surfaces that are meant to be black, I don't know if it shows in the pic but it's basically really dark grey with a purplish tint, your eye is not able to tell a difference and it looks way better imo, especially if you put blash wash on it to add depth that pure black isn't capable of.

I had an idea to use something like this on a Nightbringer, just for detailing the inside of the mouth and cloak.
Never bothered and he's been sat in a drawer just primed for about two years now.

Off-blacks in general are underappreciated I think. In addition to that one which I also use, there are also other tones in reddish or bluish that can fit where purplish doesn't.
