Summertime is fast approaching, so here's a hot question for y'all. When was the last time you played a card game outside?
>>

We need more nature themed card games. I haven't checked in with this project for awhile but I always liked it. Designed to follow in Pokemon's footsteps while still being educational and focused on real animals.

Good thing FaB is now approximately 70% nature-themed by volume with infinite Aria support. :^)

Anyway here's the full splash for the secret insert spoilers for set 20 contained in set 19.
Shadow is getting a new aura that cracks open the banished zone for every single blood debt card! I'm so sad Wizard already got covered during Omens - shadow wizard fucking never.
>>
>>98092112
The answer is supernatural fuckery that isn't really apparent. Failing that, risk of burning down always keeps them interesting.

>>98092127
> FaB is now approximately 70% nature-themed by volume
What a lark. They don't have any concern for ecology, fauna, flora or anything to do with overcoming natural obstacles. But yes, Aria being as big of a piece of the pie as it is adds insult to injury that the real law of the wild, the Savage Lands, will never ever happen at this rate.

Mostly I mean how do I make the art interesting. Right now I have this public domain stuff available but I'm getting hung up on trying to figure out an actual art style for the game

>When was the last time you played a card game outside?
Last summer my LGS had accidentally booked 4 tournaments at the same time. They ran out of space so they told us lowly Grand Archive players that if we wanted to run the tournament we'd have to play in the parking lot on some of those white plastic tables with no chairs. As an apology they waived the entry fee and gave us all a free drink.
Honestly it was a good time. An ice cream truck drove by in the middle of round 2 and we all agreed on a 10 minute treat break. I ended up taking 4th place out of 12 people, highest I ever placed in that game.

So for the discussion in the last thread, apparently we know a little more about Usurp, it will be a keyword featured in the next set IAR. This is also implying there's more rune whatevers to be spoiled for the next set, 6 more I believe between the first and second one that's been revealed. Our new DEMON non hero will feature an adult version with, you guessed it, 66hp. Yeah, that combined with the shadow talent surely won't unleash hell on FAB like his predecessor before him. Nope!
>>
>>98094682
Also thanks to the eggheads keeping track of things at home we have spoiled that the next set is likely pure shadow. Goodie, that means light only set will FURTHER delay Savage Lands reveal or even a Pitts or Metrix revisit. Joy!!!

what's your favorite take on cards like gear and runes that attach to other cards? do you prefer the sort that throws everything away as one big thing (making removal more card-efficient the more you put into a single thing) or do you prefer it when it falls off as soon as whatever it's attached to leaves play, letting you re-attach it to other shit?

It's a business/industrial themed card game where you each start with 20 capital and are racing to 50. Capital is what you use to pay the cost for your cards with the goal being to invest in cards that help you build an income. While racing to 50 you may also play cards that trip your opponent up giving it a level of interaction you wouldn't expect.
50 cards in a deck, whatever color combination you want. You can play any card from a color as long as you have a single resource of that color in play. Resources are not something you tap but act as a starting point for your infrastructure which provides spaces for your productions
I plan on launching a youtube channel here in the coming weeks, including a video series on building a prototype production line to do in house booster packing

Shadow at least has a robust concept in banish manipulation and self inflicted damage.
If they build out the Shadow pool in a way that gives it a strong identity, then I'm happy. If the set is just 3-5 heroes and their ultra rigid archetype cards with no enduring relevance, then it sucks.
I'm tired of seeing the game designed as a series of hero-modules.

I will die on this hill: Rosetta and Superslam are the only talent sets with a healthy, broad-minded design philosophy that bothers to develop type identities over individual decks.

What a delectably evil way of creating artificial hype for the set for no reason! I'm curious to see if the playersbase will demonstrate enough self-control to not overbuy this set for such a reason.
The funny thing about it is that this is actually very bad for investorfags. Chase cards confirmed to be invalidated in three months defeat the entire purpose of hoarding boxes.

>be me
>at lcs' Lorcana league day
>only 2 others show up
>still had a good time, but had to sit out every other round and chat with the owner
>seems that Riftbound has stolen a lot of the casual Lorcana players at this location (which is fine, no animosity)
> owner attributes a lot of the decline to Ravensburger dropping the points system for league play
>agree that it's lame, because the point system incentivized bringing in and teaching new players and drove sales of the latest set by giving challenges that would require the newer cards
>owner offers that if I could propose a suitable new points system for upcoming set, he'd consider running it

So yeah, I'm thinking of doing this, if only for fun (and hopefully attract more players for league).
The old point system worked as follows:
>players can earn up to 10 points per league event
>their points are added up until the end of each 'season' (typically from the release of a new set until the following set)
>the players get rewards distributed based on their score total for the season
>win a 2 of 3 match : 2 points
>lose a 2 of 3 match: 1 point
>sign up for the league season: 1 point for that day
>bring a friend : 1 point
>teach a new player how to play: 2 points
>wear an article of Disney related paraphernalia (tattoos and Lorcana pins count, providing that they're visible): 1 point
>each new set would have 6-8 themed 'achievements' that would each earn you 1 point, often requiring a player to make new decks to meet the criteria, for example, one set required you to have 3 members of the Madrigal family at the Casa Madrigal location at the same time. Most achievements could be done using common and uncommon cards from the new set.

Anyhow, I'm looking forward to trying to write these achievements. Does anyone else have an Lcs that does anything similar, Lorcana or otherwise?
>>

Funny enough lorcana's biggest issue for my city despite its popularity is getting people to locals.

Lots of the 'pro' players just play online only. They don't bother going to locals because its too casual for them and its a waste of time.
>>
>>98100679
Actually, the people I was playing with were saying the same thing... in fact, they were mostly there because they said they were getting TOO used to online play.

>>98100597
>big three
At the lcs I was at, the owner turned away 2 people who were looking for Yu-Gi-Oh, as the guy down the street specialized in it and he didn't carry it. Then, when a family came In looking for Pokémon, he had to tell them how a lot of the stores in the area wouldn't carry it because people kept breaking in to the ones that did. They mostly just dealt in Mtg out of the big 3, and that suited them just fine.

>set 13
>Attack of the Vine!
>includes characters from Monsters Inc, Up, and Turning Red

I think it would be funny to have a Mike Wazowski achievement, where you have to gain X amount of lore with Mike W, while his face is covered by a damage token.
The set is said to involve a giant vine that's creating leafy clones of certain characters, so I'm thinking a 'Weed Whacker' achievement where you banish X amount of these plants in a single game.
For certain, Turning Red will have some song-related content that I can work with.
I'll have to keep my eyes open for the leaks as they are revealed. If you guys have any somewhat serious suggestions, I'll be sure to consider them.

>>
>>98101919
The owner only occasionally plays Lorcana, and his wife, who manages the shop, plays MtG instead, so neither really have the time or inclination to learn enough about the upcoming sets to come up with the 'achievements' (which had previously been provided by Ravensburger), but if I put in a little creativity and research, I could potentially boost the player count and variety of decks I can play against, and they'd get a boost in revenue. It's kind of win/win. I see it as an excuse to keep up with the latest card leaks, and they might get more money/players (assuming this experiment works).

And he would be right. Not the only reason, but it stopped a lot of casuals from bothering and the casuals are your local scene. Comp players just play online forever. Also local prizing packs are just straight up worse than pins. They can be better if Lorcana prints actual meta/desired cards in there but they don't last I checked.
It's been a while since I played Lorcana cause it died at my locals so I may be wrong on some of the more up to date things.
>>
Just had my fourth game of Gwent today. It's the self contained box so not really a TCG but it's such a tight gameplay that make you think "is it safe to end this round now?". So good.

Made me wander if there was a way to salvage the Pokemon card game. It took the easy road of NotMTG when it could have been so much more. I think allowing only 6 different Pokemons in your deck (they start on your belt though) would have been a bold but tone accurate move. Getting ride of the mana mechanism and have PP limited attacks instead would have been nice too. What do you think?

Looks like AI.

It's going to be DOA regardless. No meaningful IP attached, no major publisher means unlikely to be stocked by LGS, way too much text, boring looking cards.
>>
>>98100350
Lorcana meta has barely changed in the last three sets. It's still Dumbo-driven Purple/Blue or Purple/Steel, Dogs, and Blue/Green control, and most of those decks are unchanged since Fabled.

Rotation was too soon and they gave us an even worse meta than pre-rotation. I've lost my appetite for the game desu. I'll probably go to the set champs at my LGS because I've got a blue green deck already built, but I'm not really jazzed up about another year of Dumbo decks, with nothing else having come out this last year that has even threatened to compete with it.

Toys is a complete bust, so unless they reprint daisy + be prepared in set 13 I don't see how anything else will be worth playing but Purple/X.
>>
>>98106291
Really? The folks at my Lgs were saying mostly the opposite, that they're rarely using Dumbo any more and that Toys were great. I'm still planning to build a toy deck, personally. Anyhow, there's only a month and a half left before next rotation, and I'm looking forward to seeing how the changes work out.
>>
>>98106228
Bad take. Not everything needs to be league of legends polished art with minimal text.
>>
>>98106419
Show me a successful new game with a paragraph of text or with zero IP attachment. There are plenty of dead games without, and even some with one or both factors.

People want clear, concise rules, clean art, and they love things they already know. That's what the market has repeatedly shown.

>>
>>98106978
Sorcery and Elestrals both have pretty simple rule boxes. Elestrals is moving more complex, but they didn't have that kind of length for the first several sets. Both are also pretty hard carried by the art.

Still, those are examples. So maybe the real problem is this one looks generic, has too many words set 1, and also doesn't have anything to carry it.

Maybe I'll be wrong, and if so I'll be happy to sleeve up a deck for locals. But I'd not count on it. Especially if their best marketing is "raised 2x the lowball number we put on Kickstarter, that will surely be insufficient to fund printing."

No video, but there was some buzz over a guy flawlessly winning a CS (smaller tournament) with >pic related deck (bottom right two cards are just prize cards, not part of the deck).
Maybe full death puppet decks haven't fully entered the meta, but it seems like the new death puppet from the latest set has made them somewhat viable. I think even some non death puppet focused decks are including her because she's just a good control piece + draw.

It's the original game but with sensible deck building options (no more than 2 medic and spy, this kind of thing). That and adding special powers to low value card was all it ever took to make it tabletop ready honestly. The GOG Galaxy version was more of an attempt to turn it into a booster pack selling venture and was uncalled for. Theseus' ship situation.

I have recently gotten a copy of Xenomortal (another card game seemingly from the same person behind Cradle), pic related. If you guys want I can scan and upload the rules booklet and every card there is (I'll also take pics of that Cradle card that's sleeved backwards, didn't bother turning it around).

>capitalism TCG
Was doing some playtesting between my planned starter decks and gathered some data. Without the interaction that other cards in the set offers, the game plays very much like a drag race. With little restrictions on what cards can be played each player can dump as many cards as possible in to their field and then it becomes a matter of coasting to the finish. Cards in the set will allow you to play things later in the game for defense, but as far as the starters are go it's an interesting observation
Maybe someone more math inclined will see this and determine there is or isn't even a game here

Printed a prototype set from makeplayingcards. That type of foiling was way too overpowering, and ideally I'd like to do the spot foil types

the yellow profit start to rise after some turn and add nothing the start of the play. maybe you shouldn't make it this way because maybe the player playing will have no benefits and will lose the game because the other deck already build a profit at the start of the game. I'm not sure if I understood well your game. tell me if I'm wrong. I tried to help, don't know if this help

>because maybe the player playing will have no benefits and will lose the game because the other deck already build a profit at the start of the game
I understand what you're saying and that is the case in these starter deck games where there is little interaction or ability to slow down profit. In the full set you would have access to removal cards that could cause them to lose capital they've invested and slow them down.
I'll be collecting more data as I get more testing done for sure
>>
>>98109273
Maybe consider adding in a few of the offense and defense options into the starters? Usually the early starter decks of a tcg determine the base experience of the entire game going forward, and the first set expands the experience of the starter decks by letting players customize their decks and choosing whether to pursue a particular existing game plan or archetype, instead of introducing new ones or new game mechanics. So if the starter decks are missing any mechanics, there is a chance players could get turned off of the game by the starter decks without realizing the full game plays differently.
>>
>>98109402
That foiling definitely looks like garbage.

Yea I might have to make offensive cards more common. Right now outright Production removal is only 1% of the set 1 cards, and there are no ways to remove an opponents infrastructure or resource cards.
I may be leaning too far in to the solitaire elements of the game in an effort to prevent the meta from becoming shutting down anybody attempting to focus on income and turning the game in to a slog
>>
>>98109479
did you already test your cards with someone?
>>
>>98109627
I've tested it with a couple of people but they're not really TCG types though they enjoy it when they play and support its creation (as friends do). During those games there were some very close ones including a game where the one card that could pull of the win was drawn which encouraged me that there is a game here.
Now that I have tabletop simulator it allows me to do much better playtesting, and I've only just now started actually collecting the data
>>98109541
The overall foil isn't as attractive for sure. The problem with my traditional art approach is how to best spot foil it

I'm gonna make an online client for my favorite niche game. Wish me luck.

>I may be leaning too far in to the solitaire elements of the game in an effort to prevent the meta from becoming shutting down anybody attempting to focus on income and turning the game in to a slog
Which is fine if that's what you want the game to be, but if it's an important enough strategy that will become central to every deck going forward, then maybe limiting them to the randomized part of the product isn't a good idea. Keep it low power if you must though

The Buggy deck is very cheap. A starter deck, some cent cards and maybe a couple of 5 euro cards at most is what it'll need.
The blue-yellow Nami deck is top tier right now, but that deck hovers at around 200 euros.

He's going to get 60% of the way through, have a tummy hort episode, then abandon the project indefinitely.
Despite talking about wanting to grow his niche game community, he'll be strangely secretive and controlling over the code, and nobody else will ever be allowed to help, or benefit from his abandoned work. Probably what he actually wants is to act as a gatekeeper and/or harvest patreonbux.
