Amazons.
>Are they in your setting?

>What role do they play? Evil cannon fodder worshipping a bigger bad, allies, misunderstood?

>Are they redundant in current RPG settings where anyone can roll of female fighter and DMs can easily just use matriarchal enemies like drow?

>Humanoid race unto themselves, or just a different flavor/society of normal human?

>any faith or magic based elements, or purely martial warrior culture?

>inherently magical realm, or a perfectly normal fantasy trope that just fell away?

Amazons are in my overpowered self insert maladaptive daydreaming Fantasy setting my self insert has a harem of after truck-kun plows me to the universe so I can plow Amazon tomboys.

Who are you quoting, nogames?
>>
Mine are one of the main bads of my setting. Basically they are hydra worshipping snake women who are the descendants of Echidna. They seek to bring the world of man down to avenge their progenitors rape by not Zeus. They can reproduce with men. Male children are born human but have a high chance of being some kind of savage man-snake-abomination that are mindless monsters. Female children are born just like their mothers and raised to be just like them.
They have infiltrated not Athens and have supplanted the culture with one that allows them to hide in and control it from the shadows. In the sewers they have a giant temple complex where they breed Hydras, practice ritual sacrifices of their own male born children, drink the blood of men and plot the take over of other cities of men.
Although they prefer subtlety they are competent fighters, especially when they are accompanied by their abominable male offspring.

They are a human tube of nomadic warriors. The women engage in Mount combat while the men tend to the hearth.

Themyscira (DC) will always be my image of amazons, an isolated island of superhuman women with perpetual ancient Greek aesthetics

>Are they in your setting?
It depends on which setting, and what you mean by "Amazon".
-> "amastos": I don't enjoy bodily mutilation, so I don't use this speculation at all.
-> "ha—mazan": This idea is more accurate to those I use, but [warriors fighting together] is the main idea of all my settings, whether novels or games.
-> "n-mng-yō": I have included a number of different manless civilizations, in both novel and game settings, yes.

>What role do they play?
They're usually the character option with a unique supernatural or unnatural power, given their tendency to transmigrate or reincarnate without needing a male.

>Are they redundant in current RPG settings where anyone can roll of female fighter and DMs can easily just use matriarchal enemies like drow?
If the person making the game wants to include them, the only redundancy is if they overlap with the other options or challenges so much their surface level qualities are the only difference.
There is no universal redundancy, given that TTRPGs are meant to be modified/made for individual groups to their own tastes.

>Humanoid race unto themselves, or just a different flavor/society of normal human?
Even my "humans" aren't normal humans, given internal anatomy and supernatural qualities that can't be explained, so none of my settings have "normal humans".

>any faith or magic based elements, or purely martial warrior culture?
Given that all my games, and a large portion of my novels' plot points, revolve around combat, purely martial; every option is useful to or appropriate for war.

>Are they in your setting?
yes

>What role do they play?
amazon is just used as a gimmick to have a town of muscle girls
no further reason is needed

>Are they redundant in current RPG settings where anyone can roll of female fighter and DMs can easily just use matriarchal enemies like drow?
a setting is not mandated to have exactly one gimmick
we can have two muscle girl kingdoms

>Humanoid race unto themselves, or just a different flavor/society of normal human?
7-foot tall amazon elves are fine, amazon can work as a culture rather than an ethnicity
>>
>Amazons
My setting has jungles comparable to the amazon.
If you mean a cult of exclusively warrior women then no.
Doesn't fit any of the themes, tone, or cultures of the setting.
At most in one of the cultures there is sex segregation in monastic orders, but they are mostly healers, religious scholars, and oddly enough engineers. Part of their vows including swearing off violence towards fellow people. It's part of why they were largely left alone during the last civil war besides a few being pressed into battlefield medics when shit was super desperate.
For example one of the specialties of the female only orders is cutting edge medical knowledge related to child birth, fertility issues, and infant medicine.
Meanwhile one of the specialty of a particular medical monastic order of only men is "love potions", which in universe is a euphemism for erectile dysfunction treatments.
Some of the engineers of the female orders have created effective methods of mass water purification, while the male only order has just released mobile refrigerated units that can fit on flying ships and motor wagons, which they are now using to transport medicine to remote villages that were too far out of the way for the meds to be transported without spoiling.

Basically they are my excuse for tech advancement nearly instantly being mass adopted once if is found to actually work. There is a very well ingrained network who's holy mission is to improve understanding of the world then apply that understanding to help as many people as possible.
But some believe to best do this requires removing the "distraction" of the opposite sex.

Humans in my setting generally prefer using ranged weapons (and magic) from fortified positions whenever possible so women being combatants isn't unusual for them, but it's rare for them to be part of vanguard or siege forces.

A force of only human woman is basically unthinkable and unheard of in my setting.

I feel like continuing to be a mainstay of a major franchise like Zelda means that something can't be said to have fallen away

>amazon can work as a culture rather than an ethnicity
No culture has ever survived beyond its ethnic origin. Even as empires amalgamate their populations, their culture becomes revisionist and even changes faiths. Assyria, Egypt, Rome, Persia, China, India - all follow this line.
It's modernist fallacy to turn cultures into cheap costumes and proselytized (advertised) prodicts anybody can have. Even then, it's the American hegemony and it's causing massive global demographic shift, one that will by its very nature end the pseudo-culture.

1.Yes
2.Temple guard to the Earth goddess, that's their only concern
3.Maybe? Perhaps as a character archetype, but they're cool as NPCs
4.Literally giant women as in Futurama
5.Martials with cleric support
6.See 4

Why are you asking?
>>
>>98101480
>Are they in your setting?
No.
>>
>>98101480
There are many kinds of 'amazons' in my setting:
>barbarian steppe nomad horse archers with some women-warriors
>not!Greek women society on an island with femhoplites
>white jungle girls who got lost and are now working with lizardmen and a fully integrated part of their society
>>
>>98103341
>No culture has ever survived beyond its ethnic origin.
what do you mean by that?
culture is seperate from ethnicity, so amazon can just be a way of life rather than being tied specifically to a species called amazon
