It might depend on the options themselves, like if there are too many must have options or point taxes then you won't have enough to spend on actually thematic options for your build. I don't want to bring up old arguments, but SC 1 was somewhat like this where you picked the specific counter option or else you lose, even if in reality that fight would never really happen. On another topic, corralling builds towards central themes may be why superheroes and fate get brought up frequently, while stuff like sci-fi or mech don't do so well. In the former setting the thematics being tied to your powers and vice versa a baked into the cyoa while the latter tend to be equipment that don't really build a theme by themselves if the options are even synergistic at all.

A thief or duelist might focus on dexterity but slack on endurance, while a tank might be the other way around. 1k in every stat makes those level ups much more potent. You would be lapping other people in terms of your stats and would effectively be a higher level than your peers despite on paper being the same because your stats are padded out in everything. Strength of a warrior, endurance of a tank, agility of a rogue, magic stat of a mage, and so on. Even if you lack the skills and development abilities you could easily brute force through someone else's specialties to a capable degree even if you lack abilities and skills to make you as good as them because you have the raw stats to wield any discipline you'd really like. It's like being a massively overpowered jack of all trades except you lose very little from not completely mastering something.Not to mention the insane ability to have all your abilities at the same level as each other with your initial purchase on top of that. You'd have a headstart that literally no one can match unless you choose the other overpowered growth option.
At this point just make a mp where levelup is free. If you want to be a jobber at a lower level you can but everyone gets to start at the baseline for a real build for free.

I think both of them are fine even with the short profiles, but you're right about the latter two.
