I wouldn’t go so far as to say it’s like Italics where I’m just there to read, Tank does really great with mechanical interplay and has some very clever ideas, but I never find putting my build together as satisfying as learning about the world. Unfortunately, since I’ve read LoM there’s no learning or exploring the setting via the cyoa. In fact, the primary appeal of LoM, outside the cultivation style sequences, is the mystery, horror, and slow discovery of the world’s intricacies. All of which can’t be captured in a cyoa of this style. I don’t feel anything like the webnovels made me feel, it’s more like reading a wikipage with points. It also doesn’t serve to self-insert as a Klein/Lumian tier protagonist due to balance limitations, although I do appreciate how Coincidences fit both mechanically and within the lore of the world, that was super clever.
