Question about supports, and, before I go further, I did watch videos but I would like your input/tips: I have been using autosupport for structures on Lychee, it’s led to some damage of the figures details (Pits, chips, etc) If I’m printing say, figures in pieces, (arms, legs, heads) how many supports do I truly need? Now I will say I understand with bulky or heavy models you need to have better supports, but if I’m printing smaller figures, or their details, say like a blade or staff, what would that look like? Also, side quest question, what kind of snippers should I use? Because mine I’m assuming aren’t of good quality. Attached is a pic of latest print, came out well, had to learn about scaling after, well, you see his little brother.Plus, printing today, if all goes well I’ll post follow up pics if anyone wants, any info/critiques are welcome.
>>98115339>If I’m printing say, figures in pieces, (arms, legs, heads) how many supports do I truly need?Probably not as many as you think, but its impossible to give you an answer that is valid in general. There are so many factors to consider, from the file in question itself, to your resin, your lift speed, the age of your fep etc.
>>98113865yay
Dude what the fuck
>>98115339Try manually supporting if you want an answer to your Q. Start with something infantry sized; go bottom up, hit every island that pops up with your smallest support size. Replace/supplement a couple of those supports with your next size up towards the bottom as anchors (shoot for the soles of the feet; if those scar, you don't have to care). Add a couple more supports here and there where you think the model is going to get stressed while printing. When you think it's enough, it probably is.
>>98118138Is this from the new slicer dragonfruit or was the file fucked from the start?

Shameless shilling here. Working on posing up my Macarbe Janitor ogres. Will be done this weekend.
does anyone have stls for the EC army and or the new defiler? i kinda need rhinos, spawns, tormentors, infractors, exultants and daemon princes. i just got into the hobby and i am not selling my soul ( yet) to GWendolin. Also OP is a fag.
There was this rather nice leman russ model on makerworlds by two goblins in a coat, sadly GW takedown seem to got it down and I foolishly deleted my file after printing it, if anyone got it could you throw into some archive to share around for those who would like to use it?

So did anything come out of that one lolsuit that GW filed some months ago against that Italian guy who made 'Space Marines at home'?
>We have used AI to speed up 3D modelling process, and to create the KS bannerAnd then you look at the models and it's obvious slop. Their buildings have non-sense design with hinges on both edges of doors. This gets 2.5k pledged on KS. Are people blind or just tasteless?

>>98128763Both. I happen to be part of a telegram channel for Kickstarter group buys and at least 7 out of 10 are rancid ai generated goyslop that couldn't be mistaken for humanmade by a blind mole. People flock to buy that shit, Kickstarter and Cults are full of it.
>>98128763We had the discussion in one of the last threads, about STL pricing. These guys stuff is pretty cheap, because its simplistic and AI made. Thats okay in my opinion. pic related is $2,50.I've seen "hand" sculpted STL files with worse Gnolls, for higher prices.
>>98128778>only good thing is the court is located in italy and not muttlandAfter seeing the batshit crazy stolen Lego collection case of recency, I can only hope the Italian courts are more reasonable.>>98128769It seems like a fair few do that to cover their own asses with. >>98128857>But as long as it works. If it works, why not. Better than having to admit your models are for no game in particular, and somehow look similar to GW stuff.

>>98126079Here's the other two kits in the line so far (the junior command squad is part of the infantry kit). The ogres will be done this weekend. The next two kits are a monopose command squad with commissar that will be absolutely pimped the fuck out, then a combat engineer squad with a caught defector with a suicide vest. Then a one off recon squad based on the Podhale Rifles then a full army again of Space Cossacks that will be an attempt at tackling the super fleshed out regiment of the Lucky 13's who have a single piece of line art in a single codex.
>>98129078nice, I like it when regiments or factions like these make it to physical in some formAlso do you have any pics of the death cult elf guards printed?Or do you know if they are compatible with evil space elf plastic arms?
>>98129101I have a picture on my Insta. I wouldn't know desu never owned an Eldar kit. Also, as you can probably tell, I never quite got the elf lines to work fully. I have a timetable with my current projects and will do a mega elf kit that will essentially just be one single kit with EVERY permutation for an Elf infantry model in a year. Like 15 torsos, 20 leg options, weapons out the ass, etc it'll be cooler than buying those.
>>98129078Nice stuff. Liked and put on my wishlist for potential future purchase
Perchance for some reason isn’t working for its image to 3d thing. It only takes one image when I tried it via the phone.Anybody know if it will get the basics of the other image to 3d generators using multiple images for one model?
I got $150 more STLs for a total of $1k worth Hopefully I will have time to print again soon, haven't had it in a year

>>98132693what if it's three
>>98129078I'm shit at judging from renders - are these scaled/proportioned to match older plastic Guard or the nuCadians?
>>98132800You're not alone. There's no way to get good, accurate scal in vacuum. They're close to older plastic guard. They're fully compatible with TMCs Universal Guard if that means anything to you.
>>98132807Ah that's a shame, I've already got a couple of forces derived from nuCadians and I'm a gigantic autist about scale consistency. Might grab the core set anyway and try printing the arms and heads a smidge undersized and see if they fit the nuCadian bodies, a little sculpting work to add the longer coat with the trim shouldn't be too big a job for a kill team's worth.
>>98133193I believe Universal Guard is pretty much the new GW scale for humans.
I love Bestiarum, but sometimes they suffer from too much detail.Look at the crucifixes on her shoulders and the potion vials on her belt. This is impossible to print at a minigaming scale.
>>98133193>>98133200I was curious myself so I found some scans online for a size comparison. The torsos are like dead fucking ringer BUT the legs and arms are about 0.5 to 1mm short.I also have the scale tism and is why I chose the scale I chose. I would like to warn you, the trim on the coat is hard sculpted into the model so extension of the coat would be uh... tedious. You would have an easier time negating the scale issue by upping the size to 105%-ish or just padding out the base a TINY bit or you could stetch out the feet and legs ate tasteful points by a pubes width and game it.Not offended either way. I'm not financially reliant on this in any way, though I want to be one day, but I also understand armies are personal art projects that have a certain vision in mind from their creators. You know what? Fuck it. I'll drop an A frame guy on cults later tonight (Australia) so people can see if the scale works for them.
>>98133312Oh no I meant a coat & trim extension onto plastic nuCadian bodies with epoxy putty.
>>98133312Also the Ogryn head - lol, lmao. Flawless.
>>98133264>sometimesSometimes? Their stuff looks great on the render pics, but its pretty much always too much detail. >>98133264Less is more - i also like their stuff, they really have awesome ideas, and their takes on specific horror tropes are usually excellent, but i like oldschool sculpting even more than their typical digital sculpting style
>>98133399You should check out Imitation of Life and Knucklebones.
>>98133408I know both of them, and several others like big mr tong or onmioji miniatures, who is probably one of my favourites. i just thought it would be a nice contrast to show a sloppy AI picture of the same miniature, just in the style of the 90s handsculpting, but with the design of Bestiarum (which really are top notch)
>>98133365Sometimes because there can always be a monster can be painted with reasonable difficulty.Although this one is sized like a Space Marine so it's easier in general.

>>98154940Lychee on Linux is a pain in the ass. I'm currently using an older version of ChituBox (they currently don't support Linux).Lychee takes an extremely long time to start on my system and connects to its DRM server on each startup, even on the free version.MMF's upcoming slicer might work, but they haven't commited to Linux at this point, so it's a Catch 22 (Linux user are less likely to invest if their system isn't supported, they are less likely to support Linux investors don't ask for it).Prusa Slicer offers some resin slicing on Linux but it only supports a few printers.
>>98155080Any opinions on orcaslicer?I just need a good list of the Linux compatible stl related software. So far I’ve got blender and faststl and that’s it.
>>98155093Orca Slicer works fine, as does Cura, but they are only usable for FDM.You can use PrusaSlicer to support your minis, export the whole supported plate as a STL and print that with another programm but that's somewhat tedious.
>>98155097So has an idiot proof Linux compatible stl preparation software come out yet then?I don’t really want to mess with wine or other programs to make windows stuff work. They most often don’t work or are often full of bugs.Unless it is proton but that is mostly for vidya games.

Is it worth buying a used resin printer?A used electronics store in my country has listed a used Elegoo Mars 5 Ultra bundled with a wash/cure station for €275, with a 6 month guarantee. I can't inspect it in person as it's across the country and I can't be assed to drive. I previously bought a used ender from them which turned out fine, only needed a hotend swap. Advice???
>>98163080It's probably fine but doesn't sound like a great deal to be driving across the country for.
>>98163080>for €275You can buy a brand new high resolution resin printer for less than this, and unless you REALLY want to print more than 4-6 32mm scale figures at a time that entry level printer will be all you ever need (until it breaks down). This isn't like buying a used car, it's more like buying a used fleshlight.Don't.
>>98163170I'll just get it delivered. Only mentioned it because I can't really inspect it beforehand which is the main concern>>98163209Yeah, figured as much. I was just wondering since resin printers have a lot more consumable parts than FDM, and I've only ever bought used FDM printes and been fine generally
>>98163251>a lot more consumable partsThis is my individual experience only, but I had one go for 3 years needing only FEP replacement every 2-3 months and at the 3 year mark the UV bulb array in it burnt out, instead of replacing it I upgraded to a higher resolution printer as it was only 2k resolution, entry levels are now much better. With the 4k/8k printers you can get now there would be no reason to buy a new one rather than replace the uv bulb array or lcd panel when one goes bad.
>>98163325Im surprised the 2k-4k-16k terms are still thrown around like they matter when it comes to 3D printers. It's not the resolution of the screen, people!! it's the size of the pixel!!!it's usually measured in micrometers (μm). A printer might have high resolution but if the screen is huge the pixel might be large. Similarly, a small screen with a medium resolution might have smaller pixel size. Basically, the smaller the better. As a reference, my old cheap anycubic (Mono 2) printer is 34 μm. It has a 4K screen. I am planning to get bigger printers that have better pixel sizes, around 20-30. But some of the biggest printers would have worse pixel sizes. For example, the Jupiter SE is 4K+ resolution, but it has a fucking huge screen, so a worse pixel size of 51 μm

>>98174614For sculpting 28mm, simplify everything, do everything way larger than you think is needed.I just modified some hexhunter scans with custom helmets, and all the details were way too tiny, even though I tried to overemphasize them. Also its good to decide for what you want the models used before you model. 28mm heroic looks way different than normal, so think about what kind of minis yours will often stand next to.as for zbrush versions, from what I've heard, some patches even on windows are not good enough and some features freeze after a while, so you might need to shop around until you find one that works reliable. For Zbrush, get a graphic tablet. It's just a much more expensive machine for not very much gain
>>98184108>printing large items in resin just causes warping issueis that true? I wanted to print large tanks as one piece
>>98184121as one piece will be less trouble, but I printed a starfleet shuttlecraft at 15mm scale in resin in two pieces (removable top for playable interior) and the fit was absolutely atrocious, plus there were delamination issue on the flat interior floor of the bottom half.If you can do it single piece and you can align it so that no large flat sections will be printed at any one time (angle the print and hollow it, no large solid surfaces) then you can probably do it without noticing. But large items are best done on FDM.If you want a resin finish with FDM print small bits separate and glue them on (sponsons, radar dish, smoke launchers, etc...) and do as anon above saw in a video and brush printer resin on after and cure with a flashlight to get rid of layer lines. But as for layer lines if you print with a layer height of 0.06mm or even 0.08mm (standard 0.4 nozzle is fine) then even those shouldn't be too noticeable without smoothing.

>>98185653fdm printers move in 0.04 increments, but can hold half steps decently, so there's no 0.05 only 0.04 and 0.060.04 is too thin and material at steep angles will unravel easily.
>>98187244Because that's as good as he can be arsed to get it, and so he'll have to tell himself that it's good enough.
>>98188157meshmixer -> separate shellsyou'll see themyou can use Make Solid to fix it
>>98189064>I've went through the obvious rigmarole of cleaning the models up myself but half the time they still complain about it even when the software says different.
>>98179135>try lychee. There's no plate, the model is textureless and clicking any button just removes the entire UI leaving the window completely blankLychee worked pretty good for me. Are you running it natively or using wine?
>>98186292I have a Kobra 2 Pro and it's fine for terrain. The landing pad in pic related is FDM, the VTOL is resin. Most terrain will be coated in something and at least painted, that gives you the opportunity to hide the layer lines. I use filler primer and a lot of sanding, combined with sheet styrene to cover particularly bad areas. >>98188136you mean that weird UV printer that adds textures or depth to pictures? No, just buy an FDM printer, it will be a lot more useful and you can do the same gimmick.
Just had a quick browse for some Ork STLs and holy shit there is so many fucking awful STL designers out there charging top money for their dogshit, what morons is buying this shit
Just bought my tenth set of Ork STLs this year and holy shit there are so many fucking amazing STL designers putting their stuff out there, I'm glad I'm gainfully employed and can support their work by buying it
I just joined a telegram group and pirated a bunch of ork stls and holy shit, I'm never paying money for something I can get for free.I'm glad the retards that are infringing on GW's IP will get no money and will cry about how unfair it is someone would infringe on their IP
>>98191709You're retarded.GW's empire is built on GW infringing upon other IP's
>>98191709>I'm glad the retards that are infringing on GW's IP will get no moneyMany of them are even members of those groups and use them to promote their stuff.
>>98191805>GW's empire is built on GW infringing upon other IP'sFor sure, I am aware of that, that's why I infringe on your IP which is infringing on theirs. In what world is pointing out that GW is a bag of dicks going to make me decide not to pirate your shit?>>98191961You live in a fantasy land if you think someone going to telegram for pirated content is going to open their wallet.
modelled and posed some 28mm bat wings to make harpies with some plastic ghouls i have lying around. really happy with the result, all in all, hope the prints come out fine
>>98192049I don't sell STL's, the few I've made are free to begin with.I'm saying piracy behind the justification of "it's IP infringement" is bullshit.Be a pirate, just don't make excuses for it, I pirate too, I'm not going to try and make some argument that "it's okay that I do it because of moral standing!" I do it because I believe prices are too high and I don't want to pay, end of story.
>>98192718I wasn't making excuses, I was making a joke and copying the previous two posters sentence structure. Are you even a person? Does context mean nothing to you?
>>98193012Uh-huh.
>>98115917>>98120025Thank you for telling me this you two, I’ve made many more prints since this, and found that most of my problems came from the slicer crashing. I noticed, after many inexplicable fails, that the file size was too small. Now I’ve upgraded (downgraded?) to chitubox 1.9.5, Linux, I have a fully offline system, so I don’t have to worry about the whole digital handshake bullshit.I would say right now, I’ve just about maxed out my autism stat, but you guys will probably tell me I’m merely a novice at best.Either way, now I HAVE to learn manual supports, because Linux will crash if I attempt auto in CTB 1.9.5. I did test prints of terminator 40mm bases from Cults, and found that they worked, I just copied the size and density dimensions of them from Lychee auto options, and put the same STL in lychee, auto’s it, and copied it manually in CTB.>>98116096As for your question, I found it doing a general search in Cults. Look under Ultramarines, and find the specific unit. There are several types!Right now I’m building an army of 1k Dusty Bois, and although I’ve only got these two squads done, now that I know the ins and outs of the files, transfers, limitations, and physical stuff, I’m confident I can do full plate prints on my next day off all day, where as before I was only managing small ones do to my computers limitations.

>>98194252Don't forget to use lost wax type resin.
Anyone got any Warhammer scans they would be willing to share? I got telegram
>>98113855Someone got a file like pic related? I need some as base decoration
>>98193085No one's buying your overpriced stl
>>98196003Illiterate ESL faggots should stay on the parts of the internet that exist in their own language.
>>98196151shut the fuck up and stop shilling
>>98196363Ooooooh! Struck a nerve!
>>98196388Yeah you did, I'm so activated right now. Because you got me so good, I've changed my mind, I'll now buy your stl
>>98196657You still need to learn English, at least enough to read it.
>>98194252I already researched it myself. For pewter, you can print the mold directly in high temp resin. I do not have a spin casting machine, so I'm going to try it with a fuckhueg sprue. If that doesn't provide good enough results, I will try sling casting.
>>98147021I've found it can be awkward to print due to light bleed whilst printing; I tried using Elegoo's clear resin and kept getting awful clumps around supports no matter how I set the exposure.. Definitely read reviews for the resin you're buying.
Just moved and this was the first print of the new house. It came out great. I know theoretically i shouldnt have had to change anything but its still nice to know everything still works.
