If I see anyone mention or reference or talk about this shit franchise I will vomit.

It is absolute childish trash and pretending it is deep is comical.
>Oh no it is a power ranger monster at the bottom of the see!
Yes the idea of Godzilla in 1912 must have bean mind blowing to the Victorians however it is simply a stupid kaiju in the ocean nothing more.

You can know this because
>It needs to sleep
>It needs to eat
And it is taking a nap now.

Also it literally gets destroyed by people in 1908 or whatever ramming a boat into it.
>Oh no a 1908 boat my only weakness
So much for Mr cosmic being!

Literally the only thing that comes close to cosmic horror is Azathoth however it immediately becomes goofy because it is surrounded by other comedy creatures who play music for it to put it to sleep.

Very comical.
Also meaningless

>Oh no it is Azathoth I am going insane AAAA
No the opposite. There is literally nothing I can do about Azathoth and if he wakes up I cease to exist. Not eternal torture not suffering only poof non existence. This is extremely meaningless since I can not do anything about it so the pondering is meaningless. And Azathoth is not sadistic he does not want to torture me forever. He is not some next level micro torturer who crafted the universe to slowly drive me insane in a Falling Down mixed with Twilight Zone in which the guy thinks he's in Heaven but actually he's in Hell.

Why is any of this shit impresive?
Why is any of this horror?
These are only big monsters who literally do nothing.
Cathulu is not rampaging our cities none of the other shit is!
>AAAA I am going insane
Umm no the opposite. None of that shit is frightening or has any potentiality to drive anyone insane. Unless you literally on the level of a crying söy jack meme
>AAAA I am having a nevus breakdown while in the forest help me therapist!
Pathethic!

I recommend you actually read the stories you're complaining about, instead of basing your entire idea of them on memes you've seen. Lovecraft was a pioneer of the genre, and while some of his stories have definitely aged, a lot them still hold up super well. Shadow out of Time and Whisperer in Darkness are two favorites of mine.

>I have to go find my sides first.
Thank you for being a retard.

Is a person who has copyright over what he writes.

The fact that the copyright expired and everyone can use his shared universe does not change this fact!

Lovecraft never copyrighted anything. You're thinking of Arkham house and August Derleth.
>>
>>98131009
>a lot them still hold up super well.
Like?
Give the best examples.

All his retarded Godzilla monsters have retarded relatable needs like any animal, so much for unimaginable and alien!
>Hunger
>Sleep
Very relatable to a human
>Music
>Playing music for Azathoth!!!!
Is the guy even trying? I was expecting unimaginable things not fucken idiotic ideas.

In contrast (since this Lovecraft shit is pushed as more frightening then real life religions (it is not)) religions are far more cosmic scary then fucken godzilla who does nothing!

Instead of Azathoth being sleepy and music being used to keep him asleep. How about the Demiurge remove any concept of heaven or salvation. You are created by a insane flawed and defective however all powerful entity. He does not sleep, he does not need to eat. He can unmake you and all of existence whenever he wants, not a dream a simulation and he is the admin of it.
Make him sadistic and create monsters to fuck over humans.
None of the
>Oh no it is Godzilla only he is sleeping!
You are actively being tormented by a creature who does not eat or sleep and 24/7 only fucks with this world. And you can not drive a boat into the Demiurge to kill him unlike Lovecrafts Godzilla.

>and while some of his stories have definitely aged,
Thanks for admitting this I did look up wikipedia entries on his monsters and the are laughable. And it is comical how many of them are sleeping or do not do shit or literally can not do shit making them meaningless like Azathoth.

I did give you two examples. You keep talking about "Godzilla monsters." Cthulhu is the only thing that could arguably be called a Godzilla monster, and the horror of the Call of Cthulhu isn't "There is a big monster under the Pacific," the horror is "There is an ancient, worldwide, powerful cult that worships this crazy ancient god that seems to predate everything we know, and it's fucking real." Again, if you'd actually read any of the stories, you'd know this.
>>
>>98131129
>I did give you two examples.
Maybe I read them in my free time. Any others.
>Cthulhu is the only thing that could arguably be called a Godzilla monste
Yet he is shilled the most
>OH MY GOD IT IS TOTALLY LIKE CATHULU!
OVER AND OVER AND OVER!
I will lose it if another retard talks about this retarded Cthulhu monster one more time!

Oh look it is you trying to defend sleeping Godzilla.
>to predate everything we know,
And Mr. "predate everything we know" gets literally killed by a boat who was invented less then 100 years ago....

>"There is an ancient, worldwide, powerful cult that worships
Look like a cleanup job for the FBI (2026 thinking). Lots of people get vanished.

>cult
Is it more then crazy people being crazy people for the plot?
>>
Demonbane's pretty cool
>>
>>98131181
Again, you should actually read the stories instead of basing your opinions on stale memes.
>>
>>98131181
>Look like a cleanup job for the FBI (2026 thinking). Lots of people get vanished.

That's literally what happens in The Shadow over Innsmouth, with a local cult/hybrid population. The feds get an entire town, children, old people in institutions without much a fuss because they're genuinelly "alien" and the public are disgusted by them.
And that might be the scariest thing in the story, quite frankly.

I guarantee OP speaks Spanish, and not the right kind

Lovecraft stories are about the implication, not the monsters.
The people in lovecrafts stories dont go mad because they saw a monster, but because this fucks with everything they believe. Comically, toy story is more lovecraftian than most tenta1cle monster horror. The matrix is also lovecraftian

Coming across fish people is not the problem, the existence of fish people hidden between us is the horror. The fact they correspond to a cult mythology you have read about and found ridiculous is what drives you mad. You the reader know this isnt true, so naturally you arent afraid, but the character is, they are driven to madness and paranoia.

Most Lovecraft characters are from his time period. Meaning they are all educated white American men, who would have been taught that man was created by an all loving god in his image, our western culture is the most advanced on Earth and that western science is the most advanced from of knowledge ever and the mechanism that new knowledge is discovered and applied.
Lovecraft turns all this on its head, Humans were not made by god, all life evolved from the cells of Shoggoth slaves of the Elder Things, shed in the ocean, there are older cultures that are more advanced than we are. Humans do not have dominion over the earth, we only think we do because the great old ones are not active due to the current, brief cosmic state of the universe. The stars are not right but when they are they will awaken and nothing we can do can stop it

>Also it literally gets destroyed by people in 1908 or whatever ramming a boat into it.
It literally doesn't. The boat didn't do shit to Cthulhu, which you would know if you actually read the shit you're bitching about instead of going off memes.
From the text itself:
>But Johansen had not given out yet. Knowing that the Thing could surely overtake the Alert until steam was fully up, he resolved on a desperate chance; and, setting the engine for full speed, ran lightning-like on deck and reversed the wheel. There was a mighty eddying and foaming in the noisome brine, and as the steam mounted higher and higher the brave Norwegian drove his vessel head on against the pursuing jelly which rose above the unclean froth like the stern of a daemon galleon. The awful squid-head with writhing feelers came nearly up to the bowsprit of the sturdy yacht, but Johansen drove on relentlessly. There was a bursting as of an exploding bladder, a slushy nastiness as of a cloven sunfish, a stench as of a thousand opened graves, and a sound that the chronicler would not put on paper. For an instant the ship was befouled by an acrid and blinding green cloud, and then there was only a venomous seething astern; where—God in heaven!—the scattered plasticity of that nameless sky-spawn was nebulously recombining in its hateful original form, whilst its distance widened every second as the Alert gained impetus from its mounting steam.
And later
> Cthulhu still lives, too, I suppose, again in that chasm of stone which has shielded him since the sun was young. His accursed city is sunken once more, for the Vigilant sailed over the spot after the April storm; but his ministers on earth still bellow and prance and slay around idol-capped monoliths in lonely places. He must have been trapped by the sinking whilst within his black abyss, or else the world would by now be screaming with fright and frenzy.
R'lyeh sinking again put him back to sleep, not the fucking boat.

>Also it literally gets destroyed by people in 1908 or whatever ramming a boat into it.
>Oh no a 1908 boat my only weakness
>So much for Mr cosmic being!

Aside from reforming immediately after.

The thing that makes these situations - not the creatures - threatening and horrifying is that the people who experience them have proof that they exist and cannot be dealt with. There shouldn't be a monstrous Priest of alien Gods on earth sleeping in the ocean, and there isn't any reason that him waking up - even for a single night for a few hours - should drive artists and poets mad, but it does, and they did go mad. It doesn't make sense. But that's the bad part - it doesn't make sense, yet the proofs are all there, and it did happen.

That sent the investigators to the asylum because it was the only place that they could find relief - doped up and kept safe from the outside world.

The monsters are nothing more than a vehicle for pointing out shit that happens with no scientific or reasonable explanation, yet there they are, alien beings whose existence robs people of their safety and lives just by existing.

You don't have to see them, or care about them, but they can still affect your existence in ways you may never realize.

But if you're not imaginative, you're perfectly safe. Because it takes intellect and imagination to understand there's more to reality than these things you see and touch and feel.

Unimaginative, illiterate dipshit that you are.

BTW, they never describe Cthulhu, you know. They describe the STATUES, but you never get any description of Cthulhu from the narrators - ever. so what you think he looks like? You're wrong.

You're right in that nihilistic horror about how we're just dumb monkeys blundering around an uncaring universe kinda bounces off modern people. Whereas 100 years ago you probably would have been religious. And you would have expected great things from technology and been optimistic about the future. Your grandpa fought in the Civil War but you have a radio, a car, can fly across the oceans, etc. No doubt they'd horrified by a vision of one of their descendants being unemployed after graduating college or spending their whole day playing video games.

Same deal with the lineage-based horror. Hard to get someone horrified that their great-great-grandmother was a witch or Irish when most normies don't give a shit about history/culture/genealogy and half the kids are growing up without a dad.

>If I see anyone mention or reference or talk about this shit franchise I will vomit.
Why did you start a thread about it, then?

>pretending it is deep is comical
That may be true, but it doesn't really matter when pretty much nobody thinks that. People find Lovecraft interesting and entertaining. Hopefully I don't need to explain to you how that's different from finding it deep.

>This is extremely meaningless since I can not do anything about it so the pondering is meaningless.
That is definitely an interesting way of thinking. Unusual, but interesting specifically because of that. Still, it should be fairly obvious even to you, yourself, that you not getting anything out of pondering scary scenarios you have absolutely power over doesn't say antyhing whatsoever about the merits of such scenarios. And, of course, most of Lovecraft's best known works aren't really about a big scary Godzilla monster, anyways. A Shadow out of Time, Dreams in the Witch House, The Shadow Over Innsmouth, At the Mountains of Madness and so on are pretty different kind of horror from what you seem to think Lovecraft's works are trying to be.

>>98133245

It's probably not that. People don't really believe in vampires because they read Dracula, nor do they become atheists because of Cthulhu.

It's more that the gothic novel focus on folklore-related evil and badness needed something new.
Lovecraft in the end came up with a focus on something more than this way to get antagonists - something that resonated with how much science put man out of his special place in the universe.
Mixing scifi with proper horror, but also coming up with something like an anti-mythology - the "mythos" are about comprehending LESS the universe and man having a WORSE poisition in the cosmos (of no importance).
And yes, this is something he came up with - Machen and Blackwood might have written awesome tales that showed the way, but the copernican revolution is his own.
