Cant have a new run until they let the old run die thankfully. It'll never get a new run since they keep refreshing it and never let it turn into nostalgia.
>>
>>98132568
I don't want one yet because I'm liking SC, but honestly as long as the old builds and timeline and everything don't return, I am down for basically anything. I love me some capes and I aint afraid to admit it.
>>
>>98133168
NTA but I was looking at some of the other cape settings that were pitched last thread since I'm a capeslop fiend, and was looking for some myself for MP ideas, but it really is hard finding ones which aren't just power pickers and nothing else.

Struck caught my eye since I haven't heard of it before it was mentioned but it seems to be another victim of being entirely geared for singleplayer since you'll only be able to get a good chunk of points by warping the world and choosing specific enemies/characters to exist within it. It looks interesting but there'd need to be a lot ironed out to make it work.

I don't think Nanite has ever been actually tried and it might have potential, but it does border more on sci-fi. Long as it isn't Facility I think any choice would be fine...

A fun read, roach and xiaohong were a funny pair. Some fun power usage too, like Xiaohong shooting a teleport prism through his gun. Mr. Black trying to sow discord is entertaining too... Though I doubt anything much will come of it.

Let's see... On the critique side of things, the line from Roach about Mr. Black not having any sigils or teleportation was jarring. There's no in world reason for any character to definitively know the full technique lists of other characters. So that's meta knowledge that Roach shouldn't have known. Otherwise everything made enough sense.

>>98133431
To be fair, I don't think Mr. Black is legitimate himself. Robbing smugglers isn't exactly a crime you can call on the overseers about.
>>

>A fun read, roach and xiaohong were a funny pair. Some fun power usage too, like Xiaohong shooting a teleport prism through his gun. Mr. Black trying to sow discord is entertaining too... Though I doubt anything much will come of it.
Glad you liked it anon, what most likely happened is, Mr. Black is running out of Business cards, he orders more in bulk that can last him for a decade or two to take advantage of economies of scale. Roach converses with Arjava (in a cat body double) and gets her intel that Mr. Black is getting a shipment soon of more cards, Arjava doesn't know if its the children card game kind or some other kind, he doesn't understand the fad or care. Mr. Black takes advantage and just plays along, that Roach get passed the wrong intel on purposes, when its just a misunderstanding from an coincidence of events. Or use your imagination and come up with your own speculations.

>So that's meta knowledge that Roach shouldn't have known. Otherwise everything made enough sense.
I just Roach would be aware of the scope of Mr. Black's operations, since she is a running a smugglar operation herself with a special advantage in income and Yatsukahagi has Arjava doing intel gathering and Jingyan doing covert ops/stalking/assassinations. Changed the dialogue a little bit with less metaknowledge.

I like to think that the bottom part translates to Mr Black being one of the only people who actually realizes the whole scope of Roach's dealings and doesn't just dismiss her as a foul-mouth wannabe-gangster.

He knows that she probably knows. But he also knows she's too distractable for it to be a problem. Just feed her a small win every now and then and she's easily managed away from his more bulk-sale oriented smuggling.

I imagine shes more on the single high value object grindset since its very hard for anyone to stop her from making a delivery personally while the rest of her organization is just low risk stuff like selling mortal world shampoo and perfume to nobles.

We could probably map out what all the smugglers actually do in the city desu

>>
>>98135081

Preparations of the Yatsukahagi (Reibai, Satya, Jingyan, Hajun, Senyan, Hush, Arjava)
https://rentry.org/oxpw8rwy
Sadly I had already started writing this before Roach had been opsted, I'd have loved to include all members.
>>
>>98135091
Maybe Roach was out fucking around with black and xiaohong at the time
>>
>>98135081
I was actually considering making a Masamune character too, but it might be an odd build if I even manage to budget it, and I don't know how to make it a proper rival for Shiki considering he's to have both the Masamune beef and with his own brother. I'd have an idea if he killed his brother first.
>>
Can there be more than one Masamune/Muramasa in a MP?
>>
>>98135136

>>
>>98135136
No. Only the first one is canon.
>>
>>98135136
Yes, but it'd be lame
Kind of devalues the whole thing
>>
>>98135088
Nta but that was actually one of the ideas for Shiki's brother. A scumbag that paraded around Masamune because of the status it brings, pretending to be a good guy.
A couple of interesting things about both swords, the effect is relative to your opponent, so even a scumbag would get a boost from Masamune against a serial killer like Shiki, because he's worse. They also don't get worse, so no matter how unsuited you are for the blade it will never get worse than a well made sword, so no squeaky toy are possible sadly.
Lastly, only Muramasa has a drive, it wants you to be evil and steers you that way, Masamune on the other hand doesn't have a drive that makes you want to be good.
>>98135115
I considered trying for a time but it always ends badly when I try to make a character I didn't come up with myself.
>>
>>98135136
Like the Masamune/Muramasa then I think so, but you can also take it for mechanical effect and refluff. We have two Saika Ikki's Last Memory for example, Ronin has the proper one, and Ryusei has a bootleg.

>>
>>98135161
It's been untouched since I last touched it. I'll finish it probably if we start a yucky capeslop run.
>>
>>98135146
Well, I might as well say the idea then It's centered around Weapon Link—Faithful Soul and Resurrected Servant. It'd be Shiki's brother's friend or fiancée, who bound Shiki's brother's soul into the Masamune after Shiki killed him. Mechanically, it was an attempt at making Limitless Meridian Shallow build focused on passive effects, and relying on gear to make up for the shortcomings (especially since Faithful Soul weapon has its own Aura Pool).
>>
>>98135155
False. Only you know what your items do and each is unique. The section only provides templates. If multiple people have Masamune what they really have are two distinct blades with similar effects.
>>
>>98135185
>The section only provides templates.
Where the fuck does it say that?
>>
>>98135091
Very fun. They really are pretty much a dysfunctional family, but their dynamics are entertaining to read, like mama Hajun scolding them, and Satya and Jingyan's surprisingly close bond.
Looking for teachers and advisors seems like a nice hook for further interactions too.
>>
>>98135182
That's a very interesting idea. It also gave me a very dumb idea involving that tech too. It's unlikely that I will post it so there should be no problems there at least.

Here's how Mr. Black's operations work:

He uses transfiguration to mass produce organs, bone marrow, blood, stem cells etc, then sells the organs and bodily fluids through Black Lotus Ltd front company onto the mortal world gray and black organ markets. Uses the proceeds of the sale to run the Mortal World side of the Black Lotus Ltd business (maintaining the warehouses, trucks and equipment and buying mortal world merch). I'm thinking his overall mortal world operations runs about 84 million - 170 million USD per year (roughly 1/10th the global black market 840 million USD - 1.7 billion USD) Of course he also sells organs and bodily fluids legally, so these numbers are probably closer to 100 mil USD - 500 mil USD (overall black market organs is 1/10th of all global organs transplants worldwide.)

The mortal world goods and custom chimera fleshcraft bodies gets sold in the City between, partly bartered for aura and technique scrolls/minor sect secrets (high priority) or items and equipment (example paper sigils and elixirs/tonics - medium priority) or sold for City Between coin, ingot and plate currency (low priority) so he always has a cash on hand. Mr. Black also receives worship aura from each deal he makes in the City Between and from the organ and bodily fluid transplant surgeries happening in the mortal world to a lesser degree (example getting 1 pip of aura from a single good good city between transaction vs. getting 1 pip of aura from a 1000 patients receiving blood transfuions or 100 organ transplant surgeries) and uses to create more organs/bodily fluids, body doubles, mindsplitting, abyss lords ect.

Part of his experiments is to produce a Abyss Lord mimics that doesn't induce insanity or cause eyes to bleed out, that can perfectly blend into the mortal world and perform like an actual truck or train engine, he isn't successful yet.
>>

>A long sigh. The cane taps once against the marble.

"Xerxes. Yes. Xerxes."

"You understand what he is, of course. A man who has decided, on no authority but his own desire, that the City exists for his amusement. Peace is a stagnation to be cured by sufficient bloodshed, and that the suffering required to keep his game entertaining is a price other people pay. The single most contemptible philosophy I have encountered in five centuries, and I have encountered, as you may imagine, a great many."

"Professionally? He is a problem the Bureau will likely never solve through the means available to the Bureau. His tradecraft is exemplary... I grant him that. His identities are layered, his instruments so thoroughly decentralized that uncovering a single operation is a herculean expenditure. He has spent decades developing exactly the conditions in which he cannot be pinned long enough to sink a knife through him."

"And he has the gall to fancy himself fond of me. Considers me his favorite opponent. Hopes one day to recruit me back into what he calls heroism...by which he means the noisy, theatrical existence he believes I am secretly pining for. He has, I am reliably informed, considered engineering an attack on me specifically because he believes it would re-engage my appetite."

"I pray for the permanent extinction of these types of malignant personalities, my friend. May we live to see the day."

I like your build anon. The Rochambeau romance actually made me laugh when I saw it.

Nanite sounds fun to try. Let's do that. Do you have the CYOA ready or should I look for it and post it?
>>
>>98135207
I tried budgeting the build, it ended up meh:

>Race
This one I'm unsure of. I don't think Human, because aura is a bit useless in this build. If Pure Pool gave 6+ then maybe. Each Blood ability has one cool option at least, but second one seems a bit of a struggle. Undead has the most useful free technique. In the end, it'd likely end up a pure fluff pick.
>potential
Conditioned
>Conscription
Overseer/Institute Apprentice
>BA
Limitless Meridians
>MA
Lifelink - partially explains learning techniques that are passive to not get hurt by this
Sealed Power - as above, although in this case it could pretty much be an almost always on mode since there are no spending abilities beyond potentially the Animal Form and the freebie enhancement, which are expected to be used rarely
Trouble Magnet + Magmatic - sadly, I had to point whore
>AA
Heavenly Instrument + Overtime (need this for the peak Masamune bond and to get enough EP to actually afford it)
>Aura System
Shallow (Generalist but it doesn't matter with Meridians)
>Aura Affinities
All G3
>Training
Weaponry Legend - to focus on Masamune and partially make up for the lack of Weapon Art techniques
Acrobatics, Athletics, Scholarship Master = some more physical buffs + brains for the nerd scholar part of the characer
>Basic Techniques
Resolute Center
Oscillating Motion
Crossing Block - replacing one of those with one of the improvisation techniques like Ribbon Dance could work
>Legendary Release
Illumination of the Heart
Faithful Soul and Resurrected Servant
Collapsing Star and Surging Vortex
Consummate Self-Incarnation
>Equipment
Masamune + Supermassive + Adaptive + Rupert's Drop + Vortex + Extension
Discerning Traditional Garments
Noble Modern Formals
>Relationships
Nemesis + 3x Rival
So to sum it up, a guy/girl with a big-ass sword that can absorb and shoot back most attacks, and is immune to fancy attacks. The sword is magical on its own and can use techniques to make up for the user's lack of aura.
>>
>>98135650
Nta but Nanite did get an update. I think it was a fan update but I'm not sure. It adds a couple more powers and some organizations.
>>
>>98135601
Looking at the relationship chart, I think Ronin gets wanked plenty.
>>
>>98135633
He's got Battle Flow, so he should have the reflexes to react to what he sees. You're right he's not that fast though, everyone with Lunar Eon outspeeds him and he's a melee fighter so most well-built ranged builds or those with flight shit on him.
>>
>>98135676
I liked nanite but I just can't get over how bad the speed power from the dlc is, and speedsters are my favorite capeslop type of build to play
>>
>>98135667
>Undead has the most useful free technique. In the end, it'd likely end up a pure fluff pick.
The racial techniques be like
>more aura (the best one for most builds)
>another arm pair (quite good) or passive social victory
>absolutely fucking nothing
>extreme defensive prowess. including immunity to poison (the second best one)
>>
>>98135667
>So to sum it up, a guy/girl with a big-ass
yum
>>
>>98135063
I might if I can budget it
>>
>>98135695
Technique, not alteration itself, and it's specifically in the context of the passive minimum aura build.
So it's:
passive while not devoting - you don't need to eat sleep etc
spending to turn into an animal
drain aura which you can't do when your reserve is full
>>
>>98135693
I like speed type characters in all settings so I feel you. I don't remember how bad it was, but I do remember being disappointed. Presonally I still think using the DLC is worth it because the base cyoa doesn't actually have that much variety and we need as much variaty as we can get for MP reasons. I also vaguely remember that there may be other ways to go fast but it's been a while.

Looks interesting enough, but maybe a little incomplete. Since the sword is a big part of it I can't get a good idea of the build without knowing what the sword can do, because that could change a lot of stuff.

I meant the Generalist vs Specialist part doesn't matter with Meridians.
But the build is an attempt to specifically circumvent the Shallow issue too. It's pretty much all passives, with the only exception being the All Consummate devotion which is an optional extra effect that also grants permanent gains, and the body enhancement that's in a way superseded by statuses. Aura Drain would be a big issue if it bypasses the Illumination of the Heart.
The sword also has its own techniques and aura pool.
>>98135767
Yeah, part of the issue is that Faithful Soul specifies basically nothing about what the Soul would be like, especially if it were Shiki's brother.

>part of the issue is that Faithful Soul specifies basically nothing about what the Soul would be like

Anon, the cyoa is telling you to make another build. "They may handpick the soul" and "The soul is for all intents and purpouses a Conscript owned by the user" in the technique, as well as the mention of Kofuko are a pretty big hint on the fact you can just make another build and use that as a soul.
As for what Shiki's brother would be like, there was some discussion about it but nothing was set in stone. Probably best to ask his anon. Now that I think about it he kinda disappeared.
>>
>>98135832
I member him, it's been so long that its definitely not happening

>>
>>98135832
nta, but making a whole second build for yourself is build suicide even if the text hints at it working that way.
>>
>>98135676

>>
>>98135722
That was pretty much the main way of getting speed. There were other minor mobility options but nothing good really. I do agree that the cyoa is rather limited in scope
>>
>>98135576
Mainly the clusterfuck that is the fanmade DLCs that allow you to make it into a cape setting.

>>98135650
Not sure if there's another version outside of the AllSync. I didn't really take a look at the DLC that another anon was referring to, so the one I was looking at may have been outdated. Or I'm just completely mind blanking it because I was scrolling through quite a few CYOA's and I might've mixed it with one of the single pagers that I didn't even think were worth mentioning.
>>
>>98135832
That sounds imbalanced as fuck.
>>
>>98135765
It's not that easy. There's builds that perform very well in the context of the setting, while not as well in a white room VS scenario. Similarly, there's builds that are very strong against many but get absolutely countered by specific ones.
>>
>>98135840
>>98135868
It sounds imbalanced yes but that's what it says. It would be a bit underwhelming otherwise for a legendary tech. Alternatively, it can be used to make a build by another anon, that could be interesting but would be a very big gamble if made with no preparation.
It goes a bit against the text of the option, but it would also be fun to try making a build for it without knowing the other and just see the results.
>>
>>98135888
>in a white room VS scenario.
It would be retarded to even consider this an option. It's pointless.
>>
>>98135849
>Not sure if there's another version outside of the AllSync
Nta, but I am the guy that brought up the DLC. Because of how the AllSync is ordered the DLC would not be with the cyoa, since it's by a different author.
>I might've mixed it with one of the single pagers that I didn't even think were worth mentioning.
The DLC is like 3 pages I think? Which would bring the total to like 6.

It doesn't really say to make another build though. It's probably more like a companion tier conscript than a PC tier one. One of the companions is a conscript, and she's well below PC tier. Not to mention they'd be a conscript of a PC instead of a conscript of a powerful spirit like Kofuko. There's room to argue it'd be even weaker than that companions since the caster isn't as powerful or proficient in tinkering with souls.
>>
>>98135932
I can definitely see the complaints on the speedster option, wow that's shitty. Angel and Oris seem interesting, Magus looks a bit overpowered (and how the fuck do Nanites achieve that), Sickle and Faber look shitty, and Velos is Velos. Also difficult to not look at Alpha as one of the best options even if it either puts a bomb in your head or puts you on the run because Independent already grants you another secondary ability.

Overall not as bad as expected from a fan DLC though, it could work.
>>
>>98135956
>It's probably more like a companion tier conscript than a PC tier one.
Anon, companions are on the same level as PCs. One is clearly supoosed to be "you but better" too. Several are stronger than you.

My next story is a series of card game duels between Mr. Black and Rochambeau, meant to set the tone of their rivalry as purely a formality to debate their ideologies, still working out the flow. the general idea is Mr. Black's deck strategies will be about creating breakthroughs and through alternative win conditions, while Rochambeau focuses on control and resource denial. There will be alot of playful interpretation of game rules (read:cheating). Much like how The Abyss Lord Heist sets Mr. Black's rivalry with Roach and Xiaohong in pure business competition terms.

The card game duels, directly leads into why the City Between nobility and upper class elite want to buy and play card games as a fad.

NTA but I doubt that. The closest one, which I assume is the example you are referring to, is Niwamaru, and all her favored techniques are only Greats. Normally I'd say that we don't have a fully conclusive view into what their whole kit is including their Affinities and whatnot, but not having a Legendary in their favored would lean me towards believing they don't have one and therefore wouldn't be on the tier of a PC. As far as I'm aware, only like 3 companions are listed with a Legendary.
>>
>>98135849
>Mainly the clusterfuck that is the fanmade DLCs that allow you to make it into a cape setting.
I see, that version. I think Cinematic Universe is what you are thinking of, but you also need a couple more things to make it proper capes, which the Redux version does provide, if you can find them. I think most people that wanted facility wanted the points from the lower option, Hidden World or something.

You're also lacking the fiated unanimous decision to throw away countless assets trying to kill you when there's no point to doing so. Sarovia and Altech might probably still go for it but the Aurora League has no reason to bother with that if you're not a villain(it's already OOC bs for them to go along with it if you take the roles) and you might be able to sway the UN

The base cyoa outright says you can pick 0 roles if you're independent while the dlc author defines both as roles and doesn't actually force you to pick a role. They're the only roles you can pick but if you're independent you can just pick 0 roles. This is RAW

Prompt:
A once in a decade event, the Underworld Tournament.

Its doors are open to all, including you of course! If you can find the time, what would you be doing during this series of competitions? Are you watching from the stands and cheering on your favorite competitors? Are you here for business opportunities that may arise from this? Are you not going because you don't actually care?

Or are you willing to put it on the line and compete yourself? If so, which competition(s) are you most interested in? Even if you aren't competing, which competition do you think you'd have the best shot at winning if you did go out there and go all out?

I don't care if you didn't take this as one of your campaigns. A lot of people ignored them completely in their builds.

There is a chance for Satya to participate if only to kill time. She doesn't care much for money or influence, she's got a lot of those already and can keep gaining more even without participating. She might do well in the Grand Championship and even the Ruination Gauntlet, the odds of facing someone that can counter her completely are very low, and it'd be funny if she just kept commanding her opponents to forfeit or give up their talismans.
However I think the most likely thing for heer to do is attend as audience and enjoy the show. Of course, she'd do so from the classic VIP area like the pampered princess she is.
>>
>>98136187
I was checking the campaigns and noticed that while the Grand Championship includes submission, the arena deathmatches don't. So she could make money by telling Hajun to participate and just winning on a technicism

Ronin would likely participate, either after blowing all his cash right before rent is due or being approached by a more affluent build/faction that commissions him to participate on their behalf.

He'd do decently well in all of the competitions, though I don't see him winning any of them besides maybe the Treasure Hunt. The Championship will eventually result in him fighting a build that is fast or hax enough to beat him, and while he is really good in the Ruination Gauntlet since his foresight prevents sneak attacks and he only needs to focus on the Paper Sigil, he'll eventually need to sleep and his lack of Stealth training will leave him a sitting duck for any builds that can outlast him (and Flow builds with any kind of flight can just blast at him from a point he can't reach). I could see him playing a heel and doing lots of underhanded shit like making alliances only to stab them in the back, or using the chimeras and other environmental hazards to his benefit. Depending on who commissioned him, he might even just be taking out as many people as possible before purposefully losing to the one that hired him to make them look better and have an easier time in the gauntlet.

In the Treasure Hunt his foresight and Investigation training help a lot, and he's more than happy to steal targets off of other contestants when they're not expecting it or exhausted from a fight. His biggest weakness here is that there are probably contestants who can teleport, either away from him or towards a known target.

After he's eliminated, he watches from the stands (or a Watching Paper Sigil if he's not given a free ticket). Depending on how well he does, he's either chugging overpriced beers and laughing at the losers of each round (who still scored higher than him), or got a part-time job selling snacks and drinks to other attendees. If he somehow won he'd try (and fail) to use the reputation to get laid, and blows through the prize money within a month.
>>
>>98136276
Nta but I'd rather not engage with the wanking myself
I don't see the build working as he says it does, as far as I'm concerned he can only keep two of those summons even if he's fusing with them, and the scale of his influence and reach is simply not backed up by anything on the build or sect

Not to toot my own horn but I think Koban would do quite well in the Grand Championship, and might have a good chance to win the whole thing. He's already quite a tough customer by default, and he can just go OPM on whoever his opponent is.
As for the other parts of the tournament, he would be pretty awful ngl. He's clumsy and may even lose the sigil on his own even before he faces anyone. In the Treasure hunt he may have a chance to do decent when it comes to taking down targets, but finding artifacts would be his weakest point by far, so no dice there either

Xerxes is certainly interested in the tournament. Not to participate of course, that would put an unacceptable amount of eyes on him (and he sees it as below him, regardless). No, his interest lies in the opportunity presented by the tournament. For one, having an agent of his Helical Path participate in any of the three most coveted competitions can allow them to gain notoriety, which is sure to be a boon long-term, though the chance for his agents to simply die is too high. He'd likely send someone not-so-important; perhaps a subpar fighter who otherwise owes him a favor or two.

The Grand Tournament is something he's likely to go and watch personally, likely in his Modern Noble's Attire. Hopefully this crop of fighters will be worth his time; he is always seeking to improve his own bladework and keep an eye on any promising swordsmen.

The Trophy Hunter's trial is of interest-if the organizers are the ones placing the Targets, there is ample opportunity for unfortunate accidents to befall any number of personnel escorting rare beasts or releasing mad spirits. He has to keep it on the down-low to stay believable, it wouldn't do for anyone to suspect his meddling, but there is indeed something to be gained. He could get the locations himself with his Impersonating Solemn Uniform and credentials, if he can't get a Specialist in to feed him information.

All in all, its an opportunity to meddle slightly and perhaps gain further resources, contacts, and information. Any particularly volatile personalities or meddling groups of interest participating might cause him to shift priorities to causing more chaos, depending. How would the people react to a subpar, disappointing Tournament, he wonders? Perhaps consecutive years of such might cause them to chase their lust for violence elsewhere? Something to consider, if the opportunity arises.

Jingyan is more the type to be doing some kind of business. Either scouting interesting people (bonus points to anyone that shows special 'care' for the evil spirits in the Hunter's Trial), doing some backroom deals in the VIP stands, assassinating someone in the VIP stands, etc... The tournament itself really doesn't interest her.

Although it's not impossible for her to get dragged in. Satya could be bored enough to make all the division leaders participate, Jingyan might have a hit to fulfill on one of the competitors, etc. If she did get dragged in, her ideal situation is the Ruination Gauntlet. Picking people off from the shadows without being spotted is her thing after all... Doubly so if that Heavenly Prison casts a shadow over the whole area. Just as well, there's a non-zero chance of her throwing on purpose at the end even if she could win. Maybe even playing kingmaker by quietly supporting someone who really shouldn't have a shot at winning, just to mess with people.
>>
>>98136454
Buffing the strike of the Invincible stance even more probably results in enough strength to damage the surroundings, yes. Living World Refolding can already make craters on impact, so I don't think there's anything stopping him from just destroying the battlefield itself.
Then again, the issue is mostly what you can do against him.
>>98136519
I think the strike itself is stated to be indomitable, so redirecting it doesn't seem possible. Dodging is the best option.

I think Hush unironically has a winning matchup
AOE + ways to block soundwaves + ways to sense her without sound or sight, Solid Conductions are a good defense against what she does, even if she blasts them away those are ones that didn't touch Hush and he can make more
If Jingyan could muffle them with her shadows then she has a good shot too but that's less likely imo

Noble Commandment, which Sovereign whatever is based on, is Flow, but I don't think it's classified as a combat ability. It's also not what you think of when considering Flow techs, it feels very out of place, it's much more an Alchemy tech, but whatever. Her other big things are Lunar Eon, the legend status, and the eye, most of her stuff is neutral.

My build can interact with anyone because he's so strong that no one's instakills work on him and he can also beat every build if he wanted.

Depends on the intangibility I think, soundwaves still travel through air for instance so gas or liquid wouldn't help. Energy is probably less feasible for them to clash and effect.

Nah, they're fine if you pick the right ones. Angels and Extinct Animals are supposed to be raid boss-esque and have regen, and the Effigy's limbs are invulnerable straight up. The other summons are deployable in bulk. They're pretty good because more bodies = less chances of you being instakilled and also range imo.

I don't understand why you people like to underplay builds so much. She was made to be strong. Thats the whole point. Let her be strong ffs
>>
>>98136774
Some of them are legit really bad. I mean, Terracotta is 15 points and you just get a bunch of normal warriors. By spending 15 points on any other option I think you could kill infinite terracotta warriors.
>>
>>98136785
She also has that gimmick where you can move all the aura in your body to one limb right? Thats what the martial art was right?
>>
>>98136795
>moves all the aura in her body to her arm for a punch
>gets cut in half because now there's no aura in her torso
what is the point of this technique
>>
>>98136763
Some are really good (Almighty Limb is indestructible and impossibly strong or shoot fire, Chimera Nucleus can flood a battlefield with absurdly potent chimeras with enough time, Living Fortress can make an incredible base which can be imbued with other Summon Rites, etc), especially if you take Universal Sovereign and can fuse with them.

Other summons are less useful since the Butchery Weapon Trait kind of shits all over them, but you can still use them to flood the field, scout, or assist outside of combat. Personally I think Golems, Origami and the Army of a Thread are cooler than a lot of Summons, but that's just cause they have more of a crafter vibe.
>>
>>98136785
Nta but no one is saying she isn't strong in fact it's the opposite they're acknowledging how strong she is
Sure she doesn't compare to stuff like the strike from Stance but that doesn't invalidate her strength
>>
>>98136802
The aura automatically moves to wherever you're hit to reinforce that area, and spreads over multiple areas if you're hit in multiple places at once. You'd probably need something like a Time-Slipping Saber attack to bypass it.

>>

Terracotta is busted because you can fuse-summon it to any other summon to spread the effects across a ton of bodies. A thousand terracotta warriors combined with an almighty limb would be a cool build concept for only 30 aura.

>>98136856

>>98136878
I believe you since it comes with disease resistance and increased lung capacity so poison resistance isn't a stretch, but I'm biased against Consumate because of the stat draining being annoying to write so I'll willfully misinterpret the technique to make it weaker.

The single largest expenditure of Rochambeau's pre-Tournament effort is not training. It is the prevention of every form of sabotage, assassination, blackmail, prior-information theft, and competitor incapacitation that the City's scoundrels traditionally attempt to mount against the event. Rochambeau pulls every string he has within the factions he is apart of to help make his efforts effective. He doesn't seek credit for his efforts as that would defeat the purpose. No, Rochambeau tries to make his efforts the Bureaucracy's victories. Though, some always manage to slip by his skeletal gaze. Lucky bastards.

The Grand Tournament: It is an event for the young (Rochambeau sees no benefit in the celebratory murder/maiming of opponents), and importantly, would give spectators a front row seat to view the full extent of the Baron's powers: a lose-lose. He would consider entering the Gauntlet only if a promising hero, or Overseer, would meaningfully benefit from having him on the field as an ally. The Gauntlet is a team-friendly format, and the occasional assist can lift a junior competitor's odds significantly without requiring the Baron to claim the win (for his main goal is to show the power/competence of the forces of order within the City). The Trophy Hunter trials is his event. He knows where the high-value targets nest are...relatively. He can infer which Spirits have become considerably more dangerous than the others to plan his attack. He arrives with a map of Youdu in his head that no other hunter has access to. Competitors would simply have to overcome Rochambeau's centuries of exploratory experience to best him. Losing this would genuinely piss him off but he would pay for the winner's drink...its unsightly to be a sore loser.

I think Nagomi could do pretty well in all of them, but she's not much inclined towards such competitions even as a spectator. It's hard to imagine what sort of business she'd have at the tournament, but it could simply be a chance to discuss with someone it'd otherwise be difficult to arrange a meeting with.

The chances of being thrown into a match in the Grand Championship with a competitor who can get around her techniques anytime early are pretty low. Just her ability to evade and avoid damage through turning into energy probably throws most off. The Ruination Gauntlet is more hectic, but her strategy would be to just hunker down somewhere relatively safe and expand her senses across the arena to go after the sigils of unsuspecting participants. While she's no stealth expert, attacking through her sensory network like that puts her at low risk of early elimination. Similarly, I think her senses and ability to relocate would make the Tropy Hunter's Trial her strongest area.

The Trial is also the one she'd most likely participate in. I don't know what exactly happens to the accumulated treasures, but it's easy to imagine her wanting to keep some artifact out of someone else's hands, and she could potentially avoid a fight entirely.
>>
You know, for all the folk who (a bit understandably) dislike gimmick builds focused on one or two techniques being performed to some extremity, I feel tempted to remind them of the one uncounterable anti-technique technique: Initial Inertia. I could even easily think of a build for it too, but it just seems worth bringing up as an RT everyone forgot about. I guess in a way that would be its own gimmick build, but you know what they say about fighting monsters and all that.

Damn my bad, didn't realize someone already did such a build.
>>
>>98138005
>Uncounterable
Literally just don't put all your eggs in one basket. That's the counter. If you build hinges on a single technique it was already bound to get countered elsewhere. Even with shit like Bursting Sigils and the Dan Tien liquor flasks, at max you can only disable a single technique for a significant period of time, as its unlikely you'll be able to meaningfully replenish your aura as to put a significant cooldown on your opponents technique which you can take advantage of.

It's far too expensive to be useful, one of the most expensive abilities both in aura cost and AP, and completely fucks you over from naturally recovering aura for 7 days. Just take using it on someone like Satya who is heavily loaded on a few pivotal techniques. Even against her it's going to be pretty shitty because you'll nullify Noble Commandment and she'll still have Lunar Eon and Ronin's Eye. You'd have to use it at least 2 times to get Lunar out of the way so she's vulnerable, and then you'd have to actually have a move capable of killing her then with whatever scraps of aura you can get in less than a minute before the second technique comes back. At absolute MAX abusing the liquor flasks with the drunken style and the Bursting Sigils, you only have 12 aura to play around with after your initial Inertia in portions of 3-3-3-1-1-1 respectively, so you better have had a shit ton of prep work done spending aura ahead of time otherwise you'll have to make do with only this.

Infinite Inertia is genuinely a meme that no one ever takes because you're trading away the ability to have a competent build that handles a majority of threats just so you can have nullification on anything that you may or may not even be able to take advantage of.
>>
>>98138050
Its best use would be against something like Jaukantori popping War Form if you don't have any other way of dealing with it, since that's where a lot of his power is, and what could be a fight-ending move ends up wasted.
>>
>>98138092
>Its best use would be against something like Jaukantori popping War Form if you don't have any other way of dealing with it
Who can't run away for 5 minutes?
>>
>>98138092
I feel like it's much better in a group setting, especially if you're ganging up on someone.
>>
>>98138050
If you're going to go for it, the goal is to get bursting sigils and dan tien flasks, and instead of using that aura to cast other techniques you rip your opponent's 7 best techniques (which is probably all of them), and then mog them with a mix of passives, prep-time, and spend effects that you activated right before spamming infinite inertia.

No one is gonna survive having literally all of their techniques turned off, followed by getting bumrushed by 200 mind split clones transformed into phoenixes with lunar eon and sacrificial liquidation on top or whatever other deranged shit you can come up with.

The REAL reason why infinite inertia is a meme is because it's boring and no one wants to write it. Half the point of having cool powers is to show them off in fight scenes. If your whole gimmick is turning off powers so only you get to show off then you'll just be passed up in favor of builds capable of actually interesting fight scenes. You're basically signing up to be cast into slice of life writefags only purgatory.

Well Jaku is quite literally a bird who put all his shit in one basket. Divine War Form can be easily handled by trying to wait it out since once that trump card is used, it's not like they'll be able to use it again in the same fight. Most people tend to have at least a few they're working around, even Koban is rocking Living World Refolding and the Invincible Stance to force someone to Infinite Inertia at least twice to remove his biggest hitters and I consider him to be one of the most one note characters in terms of power selection.

>>98138220
Issue is to even do the full Inertia Combo you'll be investing 19 points for Dan Tien, Bursting Sigil, and Sake River style. With Infinite Inertia, that's 39 points just to get the combo set up. Assuming that the Potential used is Talented because there's really no way to make a build this costly without it, you really don't have a lot of wriggle room. Even the mindsplit example is going to struggle because you absolutely need passive effects like you mentioned, as they share the same aura pool, and you can only afford one or two solid ones like Lunar.

Even then its going to be a pain in the ass because you're going to have to drop something along the way since you're going to need Lotus, and I'm assuming probably try and get as much points as possible with Prodigy and Eccentric. I'm not even sure such a combo is possible outside of maximum minmaxing as a shallow specialist, at least from what I'm seeing with quick number crunching, since you need at least G2 in Alchemy and Flow with G3 in Phase, but that makes it even more of a gimmick because you'll be completely fucking your aura system by exhausting it repeatedly just so you can win a 1v1. It's a ton of investment for extremely small rewards compared to any other overpowered build you can make instead.

>>98138276
>there's really no way to make a build this costly without it
Conditioned MA point farming?
>>
>>98138281
Not sure if Conditioned could do it but now that I think of it it's probably much more possible with Mutated since you can nab Dan Tien Flasks and the corresponding style with just the two basic freebies which should net more value over Talented's free Great, and considering that the only required BA for a mind split build is Lotus it gives the most opportunities to grab all the point alternations you could ever want.

Unfortunately I'm too tired to crunch exactly how many points you could now play around with but it should be a considerable amount, at least in the range of 10-15 or so which is significant enough to grab a solid Great or cheap Legendary.
>>
>>98138244
Not just that but it includes being a god of combat for that time, so you probably have martial skills, tactics and such on an absurd level and can low diff most builds or reliably prevent many from running away unless they have very strong movement techniques

I mean, yeah. That's something you can explicitly do if you have the constitution for it. It's why Sake River is important to grab not just for the extra flask, as even though on its own it won't let you ignore the effects of alcohol consumption, it opens the door to retaining your higher thought processes after downing all of your flasks.
>>
Alochol is a waste of points, doesn't give you infinite aura, and has loads of drawbacks.

There are far better ways to break the game. Are you people even trying?
>>
>>98138314
I know, it's just that it's rarely brought up when discussing the liquor for stuff like Inertia. The mental effects of the liquor can be lessened if the crafter is good, but it will always fuck you up physically as well as your aura recovery.

I honestly don't know who would be using Dan Tien flasks without the drunken style. They mention each other in each of their descriptions and its just the intended combo because getting 50% more uses out of one of the only techniques to artificially replenish your aura is pretty significant. Sure a crafter can make it less of a kick to the head but you can still brute force your way through it with specialized training, only thing that couldn't be resolved is the max 3 limit and aura recovery multiplicative halving.

"dont put all your eggs in one basket" have you considered that every build centered around one or two very strong techniques are basically unbeatable? it's a consequence of how the cyoa is written
>>
>>98138290
Anons really love to ignore what the technique actually does. In fact they ignore more than half of a build most of the time, and treat any hypothetical discussion about counters as if the character is just going to stand there taking whatever you throw at them without doing anything.
>>
>>98138405
I think you underestimate how many builds can reliably evade without some way to prevent them from moving.
>>
>>98138405
>Anons really love to ignore what the technique actually does. In fact they ignore more than half of a build most of the time
This cyoa kinda requires that because you'd end up with "immovable object versus unstoppable force" half the time.
>>
>>98138416
Not saying he can't be avoided, just that anons ignore what the technique does and treat it as a generic hit hard ability.
>>
>>98138427
That's because the "hit hard" part is the only part with any narrative weight. The rest is basically meaningless.
>>
>>98138314
Ancestral Recourse is an easy way to circumvent drunkenness, I think.
>>
>>98138440
I think G2 or G3 Core should do it too.
>>
>>98138403
One or two is the important factor here. Having just one technique that you require to be a heavy hitter and if removed means you lose 90% of your build is silly and putting your eggs in one basket. Having two techniques isn't. This is for the consideration of Infinite Inertia being used on the build, but also largely just build design in general. It's also a lot different than having something like one Legendary and a few greats supporting it, since a lot of greats are effective enough to build around.
>>
>>98138445
You know what can never be shut off?
Training and base stats.

Special Technique: Terminal Inertia; Basically the same technique except for one sentence in the description being changed. Rather than the technique being shut off proportionate to the aura spent, it is instead inversely proportionate, to the point that using it with 6 or more * is useless. Even spending 5 only provides a couple seconds at best. All other aspects remain the same, including spending all aura reserves.
>>
>>98138562
>>98138563
The ideal gameplan is: Use T.I.>Unseal Combat Form> Use T.I.>Flask>Use T.I.>Attack with Chimeras (if they're present) and Armor. Possible to use second flask but it's risky, while the first one should only get you tipsy considering grade 3 core and embalming (hopefully). Tracking Sigil and egg for recon. The initiate statuses are just for combat obviously. Sabatons can shoot off feet and scalp someone maybe before returning to foot or propel the body. I guess they can also attack on their own too which is scary for a bullet speed item. Gauntlets destroy armor and burn skin. Body Armor can blind, deafen, block, and control gusts for utility. Cupboard to store flasks among whatever other useful utilities batman style. Also desu I don't think the special technique part is necessary. Even if using 3 or more * only disables a technique for a dozen or so seconds, that is an incredible amount of time in a fight and even more so for people moving at superhuman speeds. Not to be that guy but I feel like anyone who underestimates the value of 15 seconds of weakness hasn't ever been in a real fight. Either way, just wanted to make the build first to see how it would look, and maybe I'll craft it into a character later.
>>
>>98138569
Nobody needed you to post a throwaway build to talk about a combo. In fact you've. Made your point less understandable by doing this. Next time just keep it simple.

Also I thought you had a typo earlier but you actually just can't read. It's infinite inertia. Not initial.

No, I understand the meaning, I just meant this is so fucking OP. Basically gives you a free pass to spend your Aura before popping the Inertia. The cases where that wouldn't be a massive upgrade would be so rare and minuscule.

This is like one of the worst ways to use Infinite Intertia. Why even go for Dan Tien Flasks over Bursting Sigil when you made Inertia incredibly OP when you have less aura to spend on it? I mean you gave yourself just enough to pop like a couple normal repairs or something in between to get it back down to 1, but the value on what you could really achieve with 2 aura seems to be pretty small and even still I think that you might as well should have gone for a higher alchemy for those sigils because you've put yourself into a position where your max nullified techniques is 4 instead of 7. I assume the mention of being a point off is in fact because you did intend to have Alchemy at G2, seeing as how the Egg requires it.

Not only that though, you've also fallen into the trap of using Shallow Specialist for this, which means you are most assuredly going to completely fuck up your aura system beyond just the 7 day cooldown since abusing it that hard can make the recovery take weeks. This is also hard going off of just your core Affinities and Initiate Statuses for your actual stats and expecting your weapons to do the job, which means you're only effective against jobbers that lack any equipment or trainings to fight back. The only build I can think of that this helps you to kill that you couldn't otherwise is Hajun because most other builds who frontloaded their power on techniques could be

It's going to get even worse with planned revisions to make Inertia a Special and Signature because you either drop Artifact Armory and make your weapons weaker, or you are forced to get an Ambivalent. I think the only way to make it advantageous is going for Magmatic and Trouble Magnet to free up points since although your build doesn't use Aura all that often outside of Inertia, it would bring you down from 4 Tracking Sigils to 3 or give you just enough to get a Chimera Egg + a tracking Sigil. Honestly it is probably better to drop Armory to grab a premade weapon
>>
>>98139753
Huh, Nobody ever talks about it as anything but a 'old version' so I didnt realize.
>>
>>98139756
Even reading the gameplan you are worried about using Flasks beyond the first because you didn't even pick up Sake River. I think using Sealed power to effectively double your Inertia usage is pretty interesting but you are also opening a massive window to get jumped because you can't exactly drop an Inertia and expect the other party to wait around for you to transform, as Inertia only works on techniques actively being used and I don't think it works through Tracking Sigil since its not based on perception of the target, but rather them actually being present near you. This isn't also even mentioning that Demon Seed gives actual effective ways to attack you even without techniques, but there's a lot in this build that's completely unoptimized which I don't know if its done on purpose or not anything for something like flavor.
>>
You know technically with some sigils and spokeless wheel you can fully restore your aura in a matter of seconds.
