Fa/tg/uys will spend their life’s savings on garbage like this instead of reading a single work of literature.
>>
>>98133220

Some of it is entertaining pulp, no more, no less. What are (You) reading at the moment? I'm reading the man who laughs by Victor Hugo.
>>
>>98133220
Looks nice in the bookshelf, but for me its all pirated audiobooks. Takes less space, and i have the shelves for miniatures.

Suttree by Cormac McCarthy
>>
>>98133578
Blood meridian for me. Gets a tad repetitive at times with the gratuitousness but there's parts where the purpose is so engrossing
>>
>>98135437
*prose is engrossing

Earth abides by george stewart
Bit dated obviously but I like the core message. I'm also just a sucker for post apocalyptic rebuilding stuff
>>
>>98133220
It's crazy Americans will invest this much time into the 40k setting and not even touch the sci-fi books it ripped off.
>>
What the fuck is the appeal of reading this drivel? Do you have to be brain damaged to be a 40kid or a genre fiction babby in general?
The Horus Heresy series alone has 25,000 pages. For all the time you spend reading 25,000 pages you could read all the great works of the western canon and more.
>b-but the classics aren't exciting
They are. Ivanhoe, the Three Musketeers, Treasure Island, Orlando Furioso, the Faerie Queene, Robinson Crusoe, etc are all exciting, action packed works of literature that will stimulate you intellectually in a way no warhammer novel ever can.
>but i like reading fantasy/sci fi
Why not read the best of the genre instead of slop? Why not read all the shit warhammer ripped off (Lovecraft, Conan, Starship Troopers, Elric, etc) than reading manchild baby shit?
>>
>>98133220
>literature
Been there, done that. Most of it is over-hyped crap by people who want to pass as "artistic".
>>
>>98133220
I listened to audiobooks of all the 40k books I was interested in while at work filling out tedious spreadsheets for hours on end. So I was getting paid to read them and was paying for rent with my time. Checkmate OP.

>>98133344
The books on my shelves are dog eared and paperback as god intended.
>>
>>98133220

I do both.
>>
>>98133220
Most literature consists of moral arguments supported by strawmen. Literally, "I depicted myself as the chad, and you as the basedjack, so I am the winner" garbage.

Most of your classics are shit and Conan, while based, is manchild baby shit. I don't think you read.
>>
>>98136474
The books your English teacher forces you to read aren't really all there is to written stories.

>>
>>98135812
Because the books you list are things literal 12 year olds read, and then they either stop reading entirely or read cool books like Horus heresy
>>
>>98138201
>12 year olds are reading the Faerie Queene and Orlando Furioso
40kids are this illiterate they will ignore the classics of western literature and think their adolescent dreck abou le space marines is "based" and "kino"
>>
>>98138236
Because it absolutely is based and kino, and you can't change anything about it. Nobody likes boring books.

>>98133220
Traditional games?
>>
>>98138201
Modern 35 year old Anglophones read at the level of a 12 year old from the 1950s, and modern 12 year olds are veritably illiterate.
>>
Holy shit I haven’t seen this copy pasted thread in like 3 years now.

Whenever this gets posted every couple of months, you know the /lit/-shizo is out of meds again.

I don't even play warhammer.

"Literature" is gay shit for fags, a bunch of pseud garbage that gets most of its praise either for pushing a political message, for intentionally subverting a trope or genre theme, or because it "plays with form" ie the hackfraud writer has nothing interesting to say but by chopping the narrative up into a confusing nonlinear mess they can obscure that fact from retarded people who want to feel smart, their primary audience.

Reading is entertainment, and only pulp fiction understands that. You don't find *real* profundity and meaning reading someone else's words on a page, anon, you find it by living your own life on your own terms. You'll understand when you grow up.
>>
>>98133220
That said, OP's pic is also faggotry. That's a *collection* not a library, libraries are read. I see books there so old they have foxing on the corners of the covers and the spines still don't look like they've ever been opened, not to mention all the special edition poofery.
>>
>>98140863
>nobody could be entertained by something that doesn't entertain me
Autistic faggot

I'm not rereading your larp.
>>
>>98133220
I've always been one of the most pretentious highlit fags around but now that I'm old I can almost just be glad for them that they're reading and buying books instead of only having hobbies based on plastic or digital crap
>>
>>98138236
as someone who has been reading Spenser lately I harbour doubt whether you have if you want to recommend him to retards as "action-packed literature"
>>
>>98135812
Anymore stuff to read or listen to?
I haven’t read books in a while and I need to fix myself and my busted attention span.

Daft fuck, that is all literature. Or do you have some sort of pretentious definition of the word that no one else on the fucking planet agrees with?
>>
>>98143320
Nta but is that book a giant shitpost and an entertaining one?
>>
>>98135812
>why do people keep reading books THEY like instead of books I like?
