When they dropped Indomitus I thought we were finally getting back to the cool, high gothic sci-fi look for Space Marines. But this 11th ed box set looks like straight trash. What happened?
>>98134827I too thought we went full circle by the time Indom dropped. I still have these models, but bought nothing since for 40k.
Just buy the product so games workshop can keep Britain from economic collapse.
>>98134827What exactly made you think that? It had some elite units with cool gothic look, but everything else was generic primaris.Ever since, they released several sets with clearly "knightly" and high gothic style, and they released several other sets, with less such style. And i'm pretty sure they will continue to do so.Besides that, the new Intercessors look absolutely better than the garbage assault intercessors in Indomitus, and also better than the garbage Inferno marines from Leviathan.
>>98134827They are more gothic than preprimaris marines still
>>98134827Indomitus was by far the coolest box. But I don't think Armageddon is completely trash, I like the changes on intercessors- that said, I definitely won't get one as a marine player.Lacks anything unique or highly anticipated.
>>98135343Crazy how only Indomitus is kino out of all of these. I think having universally strong character models is a big part of it. Dark Imperium has some cool Nurgle units but apart from the banner the marines are ass, and the plaguebearers are a big nerf to the Nurgle stuff. Leviathan is just, IDK what they were doing there. The sternguard are really disappointing, the gribbly monsters aren't exciting, the new dreadnought should have been a combat rather than a fire support one. I think Armageddon has some interesting models, I like both banner guys, kinda like the captain, like the warboss and the weird stompy mek thing. I think they should have tried to squeeze the new ork bikers into this though. Overall it just has a lot of disappointing/boring stuff too.
>>98135370One of the weird things about all these boxes is they kinda adhere to a force organization chart army style that literally hasn't been relevant for decades.
>>98134827Eh. I like them. I've always liked the chunky marine bikes.
>>98135461The bikes are Indomitus. This is the new one for 11th.
>>98135525Other than gravis looking silly these are unremarkable at worst.
>>98135571I think your new starter set being unremarkable kinda sucks ass desu be honest. There's really nothing exciting there.
I miss Assault on Black Reach.
Every Space Marine since 1991 has looked like shit, and looked the same. Stupid and gay, same shit on repeat forever. If your interaction with 40K is microcriticizing the indistinguishable Space Marine slop that comes out year after year after year and pretending there are parts that are "good" and parts that are "bad" you're a dumb cunt. It's all the same, always.
>>98135599Gotta hand it to aos you're always in for a surprise when they show off their starter boxes. Who the fuck had lotr orcs pegged for 3rd edition for example?
>>98135599>>98135664The orks do fine being normal units because orks are an inherently characterful army. If it was something weird like beast snaggas I’d be way less interested in buying it. The box succeeds at its intended goal of giving newcomers a bunch of useful units to fill out your army. The space marines just need more interesting bits and they’d be fine.
What is it about space marines and their vehicles that screams plastic toy?
>>98134827Something about the starter sets where you kinda rationalize to yourself that it's half an army right there but then in practice you don't see the units actually used that much. I'm just glad they're veering away from phobos units. They always looked too tacticool too me.
>>98135343why is it always space marines? why not something like world eaters and chaos undecided?
>>98137592When someone inevitably makes fun of you for this I hope they'll also hit me with the (you) so I can see it.
>>98137592Undecidednice
>>98136054Those flying guys are always next level dumb looking, incredible stuff there from GW.
>>98137592>why is it always space marines? why not something like space marines? Not sure anon.
>>98137912Well you'd think that would be a relatively safe choice then. Baby steps.
>>98135525They could have saved this box by just making acceptable Vanguard Vets. The cope on Rebbit is great, slop enjoyers convincing themselves they prefer simpler looking models as if these aren't just Jump Intercessors + loincloths. I doubt they even made a new CAD file.
>>98137949It's crazy how ass they are. Literally what is supposed to be Veteran about them?
>>98135525MARK VII HELMET SPOTTEDI'm probably late this, huh?
>>98137962They have diapers so you know they're old and have a lot of campaigns under their dumb circle-in-a-square primaris belts
>>98135525Hah, look at them slowly crawling back to the marine design. Hopefully bolters next to change - the enormous guns are unequivocally the worst thing about Primaris. It was so easy for them to do this right, especially after Astartes got everyone hyped up. Pic related
>>98134827I boughted that box and still haven't painted a single model
>>98137592They are the lowest common denominator faction. The big, strong good guys with cool armor who shoot the space monsters/ugly dirty guys/the same guys as themselves but satanic/evil robots. It's the exact shit cartoons have been doing to sell toys for decades, but even more by the book.
>>98137592Because the vast majority of players has a space marine army. If you release a set like World Eaters vs Orks, the vast majority of your customer base would not buy it, or at least, would not buy multible boxes of it.If Leviathan would have been Elder vs Tyrannisd, the boxes would still sit in the stores, and people would call Dominion a bestseller compared to it.Adding marines (as vanilla as possible of course) to any 2-faction-set simply ensures sales numbers. If you dont care for marines, you need to hope the enemy faction is interesting.
>>98135343when will it be Tau's turn to be in a big box expansion?
>>98138829Its an inevitability. GW is constantly fluctuation between two marketing shticks, either "Look super new unique thing" or "Look, we updated the old thing you liked" We are in the second one now
>>98138829It's the classic bolter just barely leaving the Marine's silhouette that makes him feel more impressive.
>>98138829Crackpot theory - the multipart for new intercessors will have a 'bolt carbine' option. Too many art shots of primaris with old bolters.
>>98139840I mean unless they go back to chaos it'll be them or dark eldar next and I don't think deldar stand much of a chance of being a launch box faction
>>98141962It'll be that blank shit with no symbols on the side
>>98137592To add to and further explain what others saidSpace Marines being super popular and the lowest common denominator faction is a massive, MASSIVE boon to 40k, helping to popularize it further. It means everyone has some Marines. Eldarfag has some Marines, Necronfag has some Marines, newfag has some marines, marinefag has obviously Marines too. This means that Marine release appeals to everyone on some levelAnd GW can use it to force people to start more armies. Which means that people will then spend twice as much money, building second army.Starter box always has Marines vs different faction for this reason. It's inherently appealing to a marinefag, however half of a box consist of a different faction. This means either one of those two things will happen:>Marinefag buys full box of new Marine goodies and is left with 2nd, useless half, while still paying twice as much money as only Marine part would cost. When building that 2nd part, Marinefag starts to like Orks/Nids/Necrons/Death Guard etc. He has some small force of them then, which he might now want to expand, thus being forced to buy more minis, across two armies now.>Marinefag buys starter box for Marines and tries to sell unwanted part of the box. Whether he succeeds or not is utterly irrelevant to GW. They got their money anyway, it's Marinefag problem now to sell Orks/Nids/Necrons/Death Guard.Either way GW forces Marinefag to pay twice as much money for Marine minis as he would do normally, by littering box with unwanted part, potentially making Marinefag into a bigger whale and at worst offloading job of selling Xeno/Chaos part onto him. This trick doesn't work if there are two random factions in a Starter BoxThis is also why they try to force Sigmarines to be a thing, so this same thing can work for their fantasy version of Warhammer
>>98137592Because space marines are the good guys and most of us enjoy playing the good guys(Space Marines) and beating up the bad guys(Chaos, Xenos etc...)so they always need to be there in the boxes to appease most of the player base.
>>98141976Good. I like to paint my own markings
>>98135525Is there any "sculpted in" blood angels iconography? It looks like they've carefully kept the bare plastic chapter agnostic.
>>98142660Same as literally any starter?
>>981426896th ed. starter had sculpted on Dark Angels iconography.
>>98142762Yeah you are right (7th too, as it was the same starter) but the rest were unsulpted, tho maybe im dont know/remembersomething (ooldest marines i have are from battle for maccrage and theres nothing sculpted)
>>98134827>look at these cool miniatures>damn the price is expensive but they look so cool>but you have to glue them and paint yourself and if you have never done it before they will look like shit
>>98142849If you cannot paint Marines to look decent you are either 8 or retarded
>>98134827>looks at the normal marines from indomitus>looks at the normal marines from armaggedonAnon stop being fucking retarded. The ASM from indomitus are plain vanilla, whilst the tacticals from armaggedon at least have a bit of flavour and more interesting armor pieces.Anyways, I am not playing 11... the boards look like dogshit.
>>98142989Sorry I missed the part where I learned the vital life skill of painting toy soldiers in life
>1 captain in terminator armor>5 terminators>5 infernus marines>1 winged tyranid prime>1 psychophage>3 von ryan's leapers>20 termagants>2 ripper swarms355 points of marines405 points of tyranidsShould I get the starter set? They're about $100 a piece and I expect them to dry up rather soon.If I buy more than one for the purpose of building both armies, which units should I sell and which should I keep?
>>98135343Land speeders are so fucking gay.
>>98141969Tau aren't evil enough. Deldar are.
>>98141933100%, couldn't quite elucidate why they work so well. It's perfectly compact and keeps the focus on the character.
>>98143036Psychophage and VRL are pretty decent. Teminators and termagants are limited in that they don't come with the weapon options that come in the full boxes, so you'll need to source spinefists for the termagants.
>>98137592>chaos undecidedThe only thing worse than a worshipper of one of the ruinous powers is a fence sitter.
>>98144383von ryans are junk, they're fragile infiltrators that hit like paper, everything they do is done better by lictors
>>98139573Aren't the starter boxes the precise reason everyone has a marine army? They're often good for value and most people don't bother selling the others half so if you look for deals and play for a few editions you end up with 2000 points of marines with out even trying.
>>98135616same but for me its Betray at Calth
>>98138829Just buy tortugabay
>>98135429Leviathan has everything I ever wanted out of 40k as a kid back in 1997. Space marines terminators. An epic Captain. A librarian. A space marines Dreadnaught (although it would have been better with two power claws. A screamer killer carnifex. Termagants with fleshborers. Not too sure about the winged Tyranid prime, but you do get a crazy floating tentacle brain, and a weird big thing. I love my box. Not sure about the new lore, bringing back the primarchs and such. But model wise it's great. Still haven't taken clippers to the sprues. One day ...
>>98134827>Fell for It Again Award
Doesn't effect me, I play Tau.
>>98147214This, the leviathan box had everything i wanted as a kid reading on old white dwarfs, only thing that could have improved it would be a few genestealers. It was almost perfect, couldn't be happier.Once I had my first job I bought the fourth edition strarter but a dozen termagants and six genestealers wasn't much of an "army". Glad GW has improved the starters so much. Shame about the prices...
>>98147915The crashed lander terrain was amazing though, I didn't appreciate it when I was younger but it became my favorite part of the box and still gets use today.
>>98143253Necrons aren't all that evil either really Slap some spooky looking auxiliaries in there and it'll be fine
>>98148018>Necrons aren't all that evilbruh
>>98147999Rumour has it, that terrain only came about because somebody dropped and broke the Forge World Aquilla Lander mold. It was repurposed into plastic terrain for this starter set.
>>98150376Considering they stop making Repressors because the retards broke all the molds I would not be surprised. The reason why all recast have the bent top is because the original mold that was left was also bent.
>>98148313They are salty, but not evil.>got dick over by their home planet. Left it and still had space cancer.>magical life frogs refuse to help>get dick over by their godsEven in the old or nulore evil was not part of their motivation but being dick over and getting salty over it.
>>98150992>I'm not evil, I only want to genocide all other sentient life in the galaxy because I'm salty that I was fucked over 60 million years ago by an extinct race!bruh
>>98151209old lore necrons are slave to the ctan while nu lore its the destroyer cult doing that and other necrons consider them weirdos
>>98150376Shit doesnt work like that, you cannot just take a broken mould, and make a model of a broken one, especailly concidering the non-manifold geometry needed to make the sprues work the way they did
>>98134827>primarshit>cool ever againNo anon, not happening.
>>98138829Back pack needs to change first. The current one changes the entire silhouette in a bad way.
>>98151393? Isnt the only difference a circle on the back?
>>98135343I really feel they missed the mark on these new dreadnoughts compared to the old school walking killbox. Like ok update the model but not this.
>>98143027Then what the fuck are you doing on an anonymous toy soldier painting and basket weaving forum!
