Hey everyone it's once again time for the collage anchor posts.
This month's theme was Big dudes and was left to your own interpretation.
I'll try to post an anchor every thread but if you can't spot me write"here is my may collage submission" and it'll be way easier to find you in the archive.
Here is the link to next month's vote:

Im sad about the Emperor :(
He was minutes from death when He was sat on the throne. But if the throne had preserved him, He'd look like a wounded man. He looks like a corpse.
This is grim. Dark, even.

I know, doesn’t mean the parts they modified don’t sound odd.
>>
>>98136364
The setting IS rough with the Guard, wdym? They die by the billions
>>
How to fix 40K:
>Imperium: Remove all Primarchs. Having things be about Primarch power levels is shit. At the very least, don't add any more
>Chaos: Have the Warp just be a magical emotion dimension that drives you crazy and shits out daemons with no scheming gods (though people might believe there are)
>Tyranids: Have them be the only existential threat
>Tau: Focus them on the 'alliance of many races' element instead of Gundam; add units of humans and weirdo races that don't justify an army for themselves
>Orks: Remove Snakebites and 'gross animal' stuff from them, make them purely about ramshackle Mad Max technology and looted weapons. If you need a 'primitive animal-user' faction, have it be Exodites
>Votann: Focus on the rune magic-using psykers and 'repurposed mining equipment' elements
>Sisters: Add more 'magical faith daemons that look like angels' like Celestine as more normal units
>Thousand Sons: Make every unit a psyker with psychic powers (or a daemon)
>Grey Knights, Deathwatch, Imperial Knights, Imperial Agents, Harlequins, Chaos Daemons: Make them just allied units for any Imperial/Eldar/Chaos army
>Chaos Knights: Cut them entirely
>>
>>98136364
The guard is meant to die in droves. Guard players who think they shouldn’t are closeted marine-players
>>
>>98136364
But that's pretty much how guard works
>>
>>98136378
Noticing how you didn't include Eldar, who are the most easily fixed by simply removing them from the setting.

Has the attitude towards the Armageddon Box changed? At the start people seemed to be seething at the box, but now it's coming up to pre-order, I am seeing a lot of 'hype' that I was not expecting. Did something happen between then and now?

Alright, retarded question from a casual and I'm sorry if this is well-treaded ground or the wrong thread: what the fuck is with 40k vidya?

By my count and even disregarding gimmick/gacha/mobileslop titles (apparently they made a Sororitas VR title? The fuck?) there have been more than three dozen 40k video games over the last few decades and change. Of those video games that I could find there have only been three (3) titles focused on factions that aren't the IoM - an Eldar game that's a reskin of a space marine game, Fire Warrior, and then Metal-Slug-but-with-Orks. Including strategy games that include non-IoM playable factions the number goes up to maybe seven. I'm not expecting them to invest heavily in tie-ins for non-IoM factions but this is grim. I was at least expecting to find something like: a stealth game where you play as a genestealer doing genestealer things or a game where you control (Pikmin/Overlord style) different flavors of greenskin to gather materials and then go WAAGH or a Rogue Squadron-ish flying game with a bunch of different factions. All of that just came off of the top of my head and it seems like pretty low-hanging fruit.

What gives? Is the most obvious answer the correct one and it's just because the IoM is where 99% of the money's at so nothing else is worth bothering with or have they written themselves into a corner that badly or are they just retarded or is there some company policy that says that all of their vidya is going to be SPESS MUHREENS and adjacent? I really don't get it.

this is a bit blogposty, but I just got a new barrister bookcase for my orks! now they have a new home where they won’t have to worry about getting covered in dust. definitely will have to get some terrain for them, so they’ll have a little ork town to hang out and drink some squig beer in.
>>

They don't exist. It's not a real army. It's just where they stick random Imperial things like assassins and Naval officers that don't fit anything else.

There is no apparent subject in your comment.

You could be saying "doesn't mean the parts [of the original] they modified don't sound odd" or you could be saying "doesn't mean the parts [of the updated version] they modified don't sound odd."

In other words, your gnatlike intellect and mental laziness have caused you to make a post that contains no actual information whatsoever -- it could as well be arguing polar opposite opinions, and nobody can tell which from what you wrote.

But the correct opinion, should you wish to update yours to match, is that parts of the original sounded odd. Imagine a narrator trying to voiceover the line "If you want to take part in the adventure, then prepare yourself now!" It's an action-figure commercial tier script.
>>
>>98136391
The 'xenos are NPCs' thing isn't a meme, it's the legitimate truth of the setting. 40k is about the Imperium defending itself against its enemies, primarily Chaos. Xenos exist solely to provide extra enemies for the Imperium.

>Eldar vtuber
Manages a few dozen regular viewers at most
Very modest avatar with robes, has a helmet toggle she thinks is cute
Does a podcast that explores Eldar history and psychic-science, which most viewers think is just her having an OC setting to talk about
Rarely gets donations, often talks with chat and discusses topics with them, is very earnest about her interests
Never gets collabs
Often wishes she was more popular but refuses to abandon her principles
>Tau vtuber
Manages 1000+ viewers a day
Shameless ewhore, avatar is scantily clad with huge breasts that have jiggle physics.
Leans heavily into weeb culture, plays lewd VNs and always overreacts to the sexual parts to play into her character.
Gets tons of donations, only ever responds to those that are $50 or more
Does tons of collabs
Loves her job and the attention she gets due to being a Water Caste

there's already a shit tone ethot's that have just become elf vtubers, to middling success, but if someone made a short stack earth caste vtuber that they'd definitely be a solid fanbase for it so long as they have the right personality for it.

As of in-universe Eldar might try and do some vtubing shenanigans to trick some imperials into fighting some orks because their farser foresaw their Autarch burning his toast and this'll somehow prevent that.
Mean while some water caste probably roped a naive earth caste into building an absolute thirst trap of a model that's one shotted countless imperial governess into joining the tau empire to pay for akasupas.

Except in the main product, though? IoM gets the most love but the tabletop thoroughly supports being the "evil xenos".

>>98136453
Battlefront/II, TIE Fighter, Galactic Battlegrounds, Empire At War, TFU (kinda). This is also something I've complained about from time to time, though not here obviously.

I also have a few ancillary points. First, Star Wars is pretty much always unambiguous good guys vs. unambiguous bad guys (Old Republic vs. Sith, OR vs. CIS, Empire vs. Rebels, New Republic vs. Empire remnants, etc.) but 40k has at least half a dozen major factions that they could do stuff with or use to make games where you're a "bad guy" fighting against other "bad guys" and thus avoiding having a game where you're mowing down hordes of the "good guys". Second, Star Wars isn't as as static as 40k is, at least thematically. The setting of KotOR feels different than the setting of Republic Commando feels different than the setting of Rogue Squadron. The setting in the original Space Hulk feels pretty much the same as the setting in DoW feels pretty much the same as the setting in Space Marine 2.

Also, Star Wars is a kid-friendly franchise and 40k isn't. I could go down to wal-mart and buy baby yeed merch from the same shelf as Bluey merch and somehow I don't think that if 40k became as popular as Star Wars I'd suddenly start seeing plush Slaanesh dolls competing for the same space.

That also didn't answer my main question and the reason I asked, which is WHY this is the case - if there is in fact any reason beyond "we don't think it would make much money". I do not know the deep lore behind the IRL side of 40k so I genuinely do not know if there's an internal policy against the kind of hypothetical games I mentioned or one guy at the top shooting things down or if there's just no interest or what.

Dark Souls/Elden Ring are all about the very methaphyscial nature of the world coming to an end and the player character deciding what path the new world will take link/not link the fire, be elden lord/ or go with ranni/ burn it down.
I mean you could just do like a space marine trapped in some forgetton corner fighting literally anything that looks cool since any daemon or monster has a reason to be in the city. But to do juctice to the idea of the world and reality needing to come to and end and needing a new age you could have mechanism within Commorragh that renews the webway or changes it so it becomes fundementally different. Like how you get the age of dark if you don't link the fire that puts humans and their dark souls on top and not the gods and their age of fire.

Would require some creativity and would touch/disturb the bones of the 40k setting since your directly interacting with some mechanism of the mathphyiscs of the universe , but could be really cool! Ideally its some eldar doing it and not another space marine

Understandable, besides imperial/chaos i only know what tau, ork, and necrons weapons.

>>98137078
Then it's understandable for you to still be figuring out which weapon is which, the one is a combi-weapon, which in 10/11th are weapons that are built into bolters for additional flexibility, not to be mistaken for a combi-bolter which is just 2 bolters stuck together.
For your starting models you applied the purple nice and smoothly, my only recommendation is to load your brush up with less metallic paint than you think, they have very good coverage as is so just apply them a bit at a time so you don't clog up your details.

what makes armageddon so important is that it manages a passageway to terra, so losing armageddon means any enemy is a step away from invading the IoM’s homebase and also using armageddon as a launching pad to invade terra and all the other systems in the segmentum solar.

>>98137236
Probably a combination of population, tithe grade, type of output at that tithe grade, if it’s along or at the nexus of major warp routes, and where it is relative to other important worlds. A lone agri world or minor industrial world with low output that’s along an off-beat warp routes probably isn’t important. A teeming hive world with large industrial and flesh output that’s at the nexus of major warp routes and is in close proximity to and in direct support of other important worlds is of great importance.

Yeah, another thing to consider with your example is that since those worlds are so far off from Terra their missing tithes would also take a long time to notice, so it's not so much that they're not important but it took so long for someone to notice that they're gone too.
But the second the tau got into a major imperial power's back yard, a 1st founding chapter, that's when the rest of the imperium finds out because a minor planetary governor complaining about xenos is a dime a dozen, but when a Chapter master see's some xenos touching their stuff it's very different.

There’s nothing wrong with warhammer 40k not being your thing. It is wrong trying to force yourself to enjoy it.
>>
>>98137236
>real answer:
Because we need familiar places for the setting to have tangible lore and backdrops for campaigns. It's good for marketing, especially if that place manages to gain popularity so it's recognizable.
>lore answer:
The Imperium determines the value of certain worlds by how useful it is for both resources, loaction, and propaganda reasons. Armageddon is worthless in terms of resources other then maybe it's people but it's an amazing propaganda tool used to rally soldiers and set an example that "Look at all these brave soldiers protecting this world in the Emperor's name. This could be you if you also show how loyal you can be.", it's also got some sentimental value due to it's history (of being Ullanor) of battling against the orks and chaos.

What kind of autism on /tg/?
Good kind? Sperg kind? Then there’s the different flavors of sperg like the lovable harmless goofball to the insufferable asshole who can’t comprehend that he the cause of why he is hated.

I reread my posts and I do sound like a religiously devoted Disney adult but for warhammer 40k.
You got me there.
The primary reason for why I said those things is just to be helpful not the gatekeeping meme.

The only “true gatekeeping” that can be done is at the local community level of not playing with the spergs. Mostly through finding excuses to avoid them if you’re good at bullshitting convincingly.
It just basically ghosting those kinds of players until they give up and move away.

Maybe if the tau kill Titus then people will look and be surprised.
I don’t think GW will try to do what Game of Thrones did and build up characters then kill them in a way that shocks fans to create a perception where any named character can now die.

I’m pretty sure all the named space marines survived going from firstborn to primaris.

The civilian crisis that arose after Angron invaded Armageddon is a good showing of a first founding chapter throwing their weight around.
You've got ordo malleus inquisitors freaking out because you have a high population that's now aware that chaos exists and also one of the emperors own sons is fallen to chaos, Space wolves being their getting pissed that the inquisitors are following protocol and executing the compromised population.
This leads to Space Wolves and the Inquisition/grey knights coming to blows because of this, and even the grey knights are trying to tell the inquisitors to pull their heads in because the space wolves are a first founding chapter so they can't just write them off as traitors.
long story short the space wolves and inquisition come to the agreement that the compromised civilian population end up just being sterilised and put to work for the rest of their lives, because the wolves see that's better than just executing them all.

>boo hoo why me
There is one Khornate Night Lord who called out to Khorne in a moment of weakness and got his soul fucked which he regrets (when he is mentally present). In that same book there is another Night Lord possessed by a Tzeentchian daemon and his soul is getting tormented inside his body with his tactical knowledge dipped into like a half eaten tub of ice cream. The other Night Lords in the warband are explicitly anti-Chaos worship and they point to those two examples as one of the reasons why.

I feel like the existence of the Horus Heresy novel series saps the compelling narrative from the Black Legion. The idea of a force of Space Marines that serve the dark gods against humanity due to slights that have occurred 10 thousand years ago really fits the grim dark nature of the setting, but with the Heresy era getting fleshed out and the reasoning for the slights boiling down to melodrama, it just makes a lot of the Chaos Marines look like melodramatic bitches.

>>98137571
Space Wolves respected the people of Armageddon in the stereotypical viking way ie they proved their mettle against Angron so they shouldn’t be sterilized and/or killed. The most practical reason why Space Marines protect regular humans is that they can’t make more Space Marines if they all die. The Emperor foresaw that they would consider themselves above regular humanity and built in a natural deterrent (no girls allowed) so they protected humanity regardless.

>>
>>98137571
>Is there a “practical” reason for why space marines don’t play nice with the civilians?
There are plenty of stories of space marines protecting civilians, Rynn's World is a great showing of that, but for the most part space marines tend to have a more macro thinking when it comes to protecting the Imperium, so the idea of spending valuable resources to protect the most numerous thing in the imperium, human life, can be seen as wasteful.
It's good that you mentioned the Sallies, since their altercation with the Marines Malevolent shows off that even in the imperium compassion can still be a valuable resource, because you've got the Sallies that do their best saving as many lives as possible which are championed by the guard and have favourable dealings with the ad mech, and by comparison of the MM, which prioritise destroying the imperiums enemies even at the cost of it's subjects, who are just barely above scavengers due to their lack of compassion leading to many of the imperiums factions not wanting anything to do with them.
>>
>>98137595
You can do whatever you want but from a lore perspective blackshields are super rare in 40k, they were only numerous in 30k

I always thought that not caring too much for citizens was a deliberate choice to not be slowed down by concepts such as caring for casualties when the bigger picture is to always destroy the enemy.

>grey knights are the emperor's daemon herders, all noblebright shit, sold with neon glow in the dark paint schemes for their Saiyan "Auras" sold by GW only, they try to sue dragonball Z creators for the rights

I do actually like how Aos has executed on slaanesh, but even then it’s not being fully capitalized on. I think the issue is that gw has just been bottle necked creatively and are too tunnel visioned to execute on what they could do. Although, yeah, maybe audience sensitivity is an issue. I can’t recall the last time they’ve done art depicting explicit or implied torture for any setting in a while. I guess the art of big e counts with the recent trailer but that kind of body horror (well the trailer in general) was kinda cartoony for me. anyone tried OPR?

i've got to admit, as an aging boomer, warhammer 40k has become a bit complicated for me these days, especially the scoring and seasonal rules and they constantly change. i only play a few games a year and it feels like i have to completely relearn the game every time i show up to play

i tried to play in 10th but i was told i needed not only the core rulebook and my codex, but also some kind of scoring deck or something and then the one i got wasnt even legal the next time i played, and i needed a 70 page errata document to the core rules and another eratta document for my codex and my units need to do things called actions now and the whole thing is just making my crusty old brain check out

i love the modern models, i got a 4k pts GSC collection during 8th and now im working my way through a 3.5k pts collection of the new tyranids, im mostly a hobbyist, but the rules just seem like if you arent playing it every week it is difficult to keep track of. i swear my GSC's armies rules were different every time i played them this edition

>what percentage of the 40k players, real players with models even, have read Rogue Trader?
you don't need to have read it to know that bit of text. its in everything 40k to some degree. yes its been changed/altered over the decades, but its the same opening crawl.

pic related, from the latest book by Abnett (Hive) and yes the "you will not be missed" is rather unique to the rogue trader version, but its the same shit over and over. nobody heard that and went "OMG THE RACIST DRAMA FROM HALF A DECADE AGO" they either didn't know the reference, or thought "oh cool, rogue trader reference".
>>
>>98137842
>GW had no clue what they wanted the army rule to be
It's been "Army sizes have become so large we either make GSC have a model count so large nobody will play them, we abandon the concept of them being cheap hordes, or we find a way to represent their horde-yiness some other way"
aka it's been respawn guys all edition, it's only changed so much because GW can't balance for shit.
>>
>>98137876
>yes the "you will not be missed" is rather unique to the rogue trader version

So, logically, there are people who have heard of the controversy without having gotten the rogue trader reference, despite you categorically denying that for some reason.

Terminus Decree is as relevant as every other "foreshadowed" prophecy/plot/conspiracy in 40k. The Emperor is never getting off that chair because it would change the setting drastically and turbofuck everything. GW wants the setting to stay stagnant since it's what sells, unless all the Primarchs come back at the same time then the chances of the Emperor rising is zero to none.

>>98138178
He probably can, it's not impossible, but you don't really need Cawl for that.
