I’ve been away from 40k for a long time. Heard editions haven’t been well received. Anons what are your thoughts on this new edition? Will it make for fun gameplay? Give me your bad and give me your good feedback.
>>98142063Warhammer fans are vocal about the new edition and they are not happy. They’re discontented with the way every faction got rebooted like AoS and the whole rules bloat. I guess they were holding out hope for a good design direction. There’s even a petition that’s garnered thousands of signatures to have the edition changed. Obviously that won’t happen but it shows how unhappy they are.
>>9814206310e is a perfectly fine game to play about once a month without getting boring or stale and not a single game more frequently than that
>>98142088chatGPT please go
>>98142063i haven't been able to play with the leaked rules yet, but 11th is at least looking like it'll have a bit more flavour when it comes to list building, the shooting changes with the hidden effect and the adjustments to the assault phases seems like it'll give weaker melee armies a good boost.I'll always go into a new edition with caution, but all the changes i've seen definitely feel like an improvement to 10th.
>>98142096newfag please go

>>98142102A lot of oldfags will carry on about 4th being the peak edition but I started with 5th. Is there a significant difference between these two editions?
>>98142107Uh oh aijeet melty
>>9814206310th was a lot better than the clusterfuck that 9th left us with (and frankly, 10th is the best game that 40k has been in a long time) and 11th looks like a step up in several ways that, while not fundamentally changing how the game is played, are addressing some of the problematic things that are commonly present. Nothing sticks out as a bad change.I would rather hear that line-of-site is changing to base-to-base rather than "true" because it's inherently flawed, but you have to try really hard to find someone who actually gives a shit about that and doesn't just measure to base for the sake of running the game smoothly. Good players understand each others intentions rather than looking out for any little gotcha they can grab to eek out a lead. That is my take as someone who plays at least a couple of times a month and goes to tournaments about 5 times a year because more warhammer is more gaming, simple as.

>>98142157Honestly same, 9th like pretty much every other edition had it's problem, but it still had flavour and every game had enjoyable moments, 10th just feels very clinically and actual fun moments were few and far between,Also the pigeon holing army building was lame in 10th and i'm glad that that's been address in 11th.

>>98142266I would argue that it's the other way around, the entire Imperium was meant to be the christ that would ascend the Emperor through it's sacrificial suffering. Conquering the galaxy was only ever a step, that's the scale that he thinks at.

Impossible to take the Emperor seriously after he was written as the authors' collective daddy issues in the BLslop HH novels. He's genuinely best forgotten at this point along with all the other foundational 40k stuff that used to be a core part of the setting but which GW has made incompatible with e.g. the Imperium dying, Space Marines not being good guys, the Imperium not understanding its technology, etc etc

>>98142443Plus according to the lore there are quite a lot of craftworlds that are merely just smaller than the big named ones, which all add up to the number of Craftworld Eldar.Ultimately though there will always be enough eldar in 40k to faciliate the setting, be it dark or craftworld kind.

>>98142551In general yes, their infantry kits have a lot of spare bits, being one of the last kits being made while GW was still designing kits to generally be modular or multibuild. Acolytes in particular leave you with a lot of bits, as the kit builds those or Metamorphs, with the arms and heads for each being completely separate (besides the sidearm, but they give you two separate options for those as well). But given that they come in boxes of 5, I thought I'd have fun with the spare bits and also build twice as many models in one go as I could if I built Metamorphs properly from the box. It took a bit of work to get the arms lined up in a slightly more natural looking way, though, most of them I had to shave down armpits and shoulders to bring them tighter together and also change the angles so they didn't look weirdly posed on a model with a more upright posture.

Young warriors of the Knight houses would come down from the highlands and hunt the greenskins for sport while systematic sweeps by Coal Heart and Tejanan aircraft obliterated any settlement or warband they came across. Yet the next year the beasts would return just as numerous. The vast scrap fields and dead hive cities were full of machinery the Ork’s could repurpose for war. The dangerous native life and atmospheric toxins only seemed to make the surviving Orks even tough. Ork attacks on Digger salvage expeditions are a fact of life for the hardy men and women who scratch trinkets out of the dirt to trade to Tejana. In recent decades the Ork threat has become an even more tenacious problem. Constant offworld wars have drawn away most of the Knights, and the Coal Hearts spend years away from home on every front of the beleaguered Lucium Sector. Rumours of a Sneakboss, an unusually crafty ork warlord, persist as raids on lowland settlements rise and grow in sophistication. The Voidwardens, the armed wing of the chapter’s Bondforged auxilliaries strike quickly whenever these attacks come, but all too often all they find is ashes and blood. Some worry that one day soon the Greenskins will grow strong enough to threaten all life on Oracleus yet again. TLDR: They kill them with fire but are usually too busy dealing with Necrons and chaos to stick around long enough to make sure they got them all.
>>98142698>Anon thinks all torture of a character is a direct christian allegory.Jesus isn't the first or only mythological or religious figure to be tortured forever as a consequnce of his actions. He's as much a jesus stand in as he is a Prometheus one
>>98142653Thanks. I'll be honest I've been checked out for 10th edition and just hobbying for the joy of it. From what I gather, they've had their gimmick reworked to function like an endless swarm army. They still use the ambush tokens to bring in units, but it happens during the game and only for units that have been destroyed. So it's effectively a respawn mechanic, when a unit with the army rule is destroyed (basically only infantry have it), you can spend a point resource called Resurgence (the amount you get is based on army size, and the amount you spend is based on the unit) you put a token down. The opponent can clear the token off the table if they get within 9" during their turn, but otherwise when it's your next turn you get to put any of your respawned units back into play around it.It seems pretty fun, I just wish GW would nail down what the army's gimmick is and stick to it.

>>98142635The issue with the christ analogy is that unlike christ who was sinless and died to redeem mankind, the Emperor was a tyrant whose own actions led to the hell he suffers from, and arguably doomed mankind to it's spiral towards oblivion. At no point did the Emperor redeem humanity, he sought to subjugate mankind under his all encompassing tyrannical vision for mankind. He stole power from evil gods to create artificial golems to lead his armies via which to subjugate humanity. Armies composed of brainwashed and indoctrinated and augmented superhumans created solely for killing. Comparing the Emperor to Christ is borderline blasphemous given what kind of figure the Emperor is in 40k.

>>98142718No, and not only is it incredibly obvious that that kind of thing wasn't on the minds of the creators at all to anyone like me who has actually read all the early 40k material, but the creators such as Priestley and Chambers have also just stated that themselves. You brainrotted troon zoomers have no idea. Back in the 80s and 90s that kind of shit that is omnipresent today where real-world political activism is on the forefront of everyone's minds and getting shoved in everywhere, that didn't fucking exist. They weren't thinking about Thatcher at all and have gone out of their way to debunk that in every sense. They were thinking about WW2 and Heavy Metal Magazine and Judge Dredd and Tolkien and cool manly war shit. You know literally nothing.
I bought a bunch of krieg boxes it's over for me.

>>98142730The point is not to say the Emperor actually IS Christ or even Christ-like in his behavior, just that the way his sacrifice and suffering is foundational to the worship of the Imperial cult is very much based on real-world (especially medieval) Christianity. Part of what makes the setting so dark is all the ways that he diverges from the True Christ and in some ways is actually more like an Anti-Christ figure as well, but the allegory of the crucifixion still holds somewhat.

It's not like an American joke where it's build up -> build up -> build up -> punchline, everyone laughs. It's presenting a wild and whimsical dark future that is what will happen if Thatcher and her conservative government continues to get their way. It's meant to be over the top and terrible and its humor is simple in how over the top and terrible it is. The recent Tithes short that has a crew collect an ammunition tithe from a planet besieged by orks, dooming it and everyone on it because they have to take their taxes. Only to have the Administratum schedule that very tithe a planet died for for destruction because they simply don't have room for it is a perfect example of the sort of satire that 40k has always run on.Not the "haha funny!" jokes. The "oh shucks, that's bureaucracy!" satire that lets itself linger in your face.
>>98142785>Eldar are going to be so dogshit in 11thlike always Eldar will be a bad army for bad players, but a good army for people that know how to use the army.If you started an eldar army after playing space marines there's no hope for you, i'm sorry.

Nothing about 40k was meant to be a warning about the future, it was written to be like the medieval age, or rather the pop cultural gritty comic book version of the medieval age, IIIN SPAAACE.Also the bureaucracy stuff being the butt of jokes doesn't mean the entire setting was made with that in mind, and it wasn't. First and foremost, more than anything else, the setting was made to be badass. It was made for rule of cool smashing toys together. It was made to allow all kinds of crazy space war scenarios with fantastical aliens and creatures and sci-fi technobabble junk. The occasional poking at bureaucracy was never more than a side gag and it was more about Priestley expressing his frustration and distaste at working for money-grubbing business types than it was about the fucking government.

Decided to start an Iron Warriors army for 11th. I have not really paid attention to the Chaos Marines model range in the past so I’m not 100% sure on what’s is new versus old and likely to be replaced.Bought the Hellforged Warband as a starting point, so hope those models are safe from being updated anytime soon. But are there any models I should avoid buying because they are likely to be updated in the next 1-2 years. I know the chaos bikers are pretty much guaranteed to be updated when Chaos Marines gets their codex, and possibly the rhino chassis vehicles. Anything else I should be cautious about buying?

But most people these days are so media illiterate that they have to categorize things by the simplest function they can identify, so when you tell them "40k has satirical elements", they go, "oh so it's a satire, then".

>>98143282>Why is the satire thing still pushed?Leftists trying to get into warhammer (not because they like it, literally just so they can destroy it) trying to rationalize to themselves that the setting cannot possibly be so popular unless it agrees with their insane worldviews and anything based about it is actually just "making fun of the chuds", many such cases etc.The thing is 40k wasn't intentionally made to be right wing either, it was basically apolitical at its deepest core (it just happened to have a bunch of based messages by accident by unwittingly creating a fictional environment in which that kind of attitude is expressly necessary for survival), but zoomers have been so surrounded by the internet culture war their ENTIRE lives they cannot even conceive of a time when that wasn't a thing, so to them the idea that 40k wasn't pushing a message is impossible, and they therefore believe it MUST be a leftoid message satirizing chuddom or whatever.

By the rules as I can read them, the unit is eligible to Consolidate but all 3 modes available would result in an illegal move, because they each have requirements on where the unit can be by the end of that move that it cannot satisfy.
