You pick the domains and subdomains your mage is skilled at, then pick the spells they know from those domains. For example: you pick fire and air as your domains. With just that, you can already do basic bitch cantrips like making a flame from your fingertip or blowing a gust of air. And from there, you can pick a spell from the air domain allowing you to fly on air, or pick the light subdomain in the fire domain to access light cantrips, etc etc.

The way I value specific powers may differ from most tho, and for example Platinum Age would not make for a good setting for me with the Street level option there.How flashy the powers are is also more important to me than how powerful they are most of the time, because they are more interesting to write about. Yeah basically, the game starts out in a school with three major factions + the school itself is also a faction for act 1 and then act 2 is you siding with a faction and going to war after the shit hits the fan.The rest of the franchise isn't faction picking school slop though. It's specifically one game and the rest are more normal war tactic games. Relatively speaking.
