Can we just talk about vampires for the sake of it?
I have a couple of questions, and I know for fantasy settings, they can be whatever the fuck I want. But I want to understand the logic behind some of these answers.
>do vampires need to breathe?
>what is the idea behind vampires not being able to swim/cross running waters?
>>equally, can vampires drink water?
>can or should vampires be able to just eat normal food?
>can vampires get sick?
>vampirism - magic curse or some form of disease/parasyte?
>isn't is strange how werewolves in pop-culture are the enemies of vampires, yet vampires in myths can turn into wolves or command wolves?
>Alucard is Dracula backwards
>what are some cool vampire powers
>do vampires need to have silly, highly specific weaknesses to be well-written vampires?
>best TTRPG to play as a vampire?
>is Dracurouge really that gay?
Yes, I read Bram Strokers Dracular, and it's very funny to me how the old bloodsucker is more like a sorcerer that made a pact with the devil. And most of his powers can be explained that way.
Also, tell me about your vampires.

Traditional games?
>>
>>98150078
depends on the setting

>do vampires need to breathe?
Not in my setting. They feel the need to breathe, and they feel panic when they can't, but if they don't get air, nothing happens. The curse (in my setting it is a curse) prevents them from dying.
>what is the idea behind vampires not being able to swim/cross running waters?
In folklore, primarily slavic, they are unclean creatures. Running water represents cleanliness and spiritual purification. It's connected to baptism in Christianity.
>>equally, can vampires drink water?
Technically.
>can or should vampires be able to just eat normal food?
Yes, and the body uses up more or less 100% of it. In our reality, it would lead to some kind of residue (like poop), but in a magic setting, it does not.
>can vampires get sick?
Not with any natural diseases. Not in my setting anyway.
>vampirism - magic curse or some form of disease/parasyte?
I much prefer the curse version. If it's a disease, it loses a lot of its mysticism.
>isn't is strange how werewolves in pop-culture are the enemies of vampires, yet vampires in myths can turn into wolves or command wolves?
That's because of specific settings that created that dichotomy. It doesn't exist in folklore, and it doesn't exist in a lot of settings.
>Alucard is Dracula backwards
Great. Dog is God backwards.
>what are some cool vampire powers
I like the classic ones. Becoming smoke, swarms of beings like bats and rats, shapeshifting, etc.
>do vampires need to have silly, highly specific weaknesses to be well-written vampires?
No.
>best TTRPG to play as a vampire?
Nothing you would have access to (because it's not in English).

This is how vamps should be. First vamp made a pact with a demon by drinking its blood, binding itself to subservience. It's offshoots all consumed blood from a sire, all the way down. Some supernatural abilities are inherent, but a lot of the more powerful vampires are powerful sorcerers in their own right. Running water, entering unbidden, these things are all just myths, although holy symbols work because fundamentally vamps have a demonic origin. Ghouls are in the same rough family as vamps, created through blood and necromantic magic. Not the same as making an actual vampire, ghouls are wretched things that eat flesh and possess no facade of humanity or higher reasoning.

I can't talk for everyone, but I'm making a game and there my vampires are an actual race. Not just a curse or whatever since that's get old really fast in my opinion. I also try to make them as flexible as possible and make the setting an actual gothic place. My average vamp can absolutely crush any human. There are other threats for them. Some of them veer more into the undead type but others look pretty alive, although they're never exactly like humans they can pass the test pretty easily. You posted one of the cool vampires that are not from literature.
>do vampires need to have silly, highly specific weaknesses to be well-written vampires?
Not at all. The older a vampire is the less weaknesses it has. And depending on the type of vampire the weakness is different. No vampire has all the weakness at once.

Alucard is hot. All vampires, high-level wizards, priests, and generally high-level characters in fantasy settings should be long haired bishonens

Also I know it's kinda /v/ but the Blood of Dawnwalker game looks sick and made Me put a vampire villain into My game

Love vamps who look young

Depends on the setting

I feel like just ripping off the way vampires are done in hellsing ultimate.
But are those vamps any different from some inspirations of the vampire mythos?

Also did twilight ruin vampires or have they recovered and how much was lifted from world of darkness if world of darkness revamped the vamp from its bram stoker original incarnation?

>Alucard is Dracula backwards
Seras Victoria is still my waifu. My one waifu if I could only pick one.
